I have been saying I would fit some windows in my main tunnel for years now as it does need the ventilation, now after 6 years the time is here for me to make good on that. I show two ways of doing this, the better way and a shortcut "dirty" method for if you dont have sheet plastic available.

It is great for someone else thats old money - I still work in Ft and inches - I thought I was the only one left in UK.
No Colin, there are many of us lurking in the background...Steve...🙂
Great video that will help getting some fresh air in the tunnel
Hi Mark, it has made a huge difference!...Steve...🙂
Good advice there. It’s for the allotment
Yup, so rustic does it...Steve...🙂
great idea for the polly tunnel Steve👍👍👍
Cheers Carl...Steve...🙂
Never realised your main tunnel was quite that big. What a great space 👍
Top job on those new windows. Will hopefully be just the job as temps creep up
Yeah it is a great tunnel Mark, I'm glad you enjoyed seeing the porch...Steve...🙂😁😁
Blimey that’s huge, it’s as wide as my whole London garden. Ggg
Yeah it is a great size and I am very lucky and thankful for that...Steve...🙂
If I was starting or reskinning a polytunnel I would definitely do that. My allotment is too far to go everyday. When I first got my polytunnel the doors were clad in plastic and I mostly kept them closed 'to keep the heat in'. Ha ha! What was kept in was condensation followed by fungal diseases. Realising my mistake I reskinned both doors with insect mesh - allows ventilation, but stops high winds damaging the plants.
Happy sowing, growing and harvesting
This is the great thing about gardening, many ways to achieve the same goals...Steve...🙂
Hi Steve, absolutely brilliant video, thank you so much for sharing and take care 🙂
🤢
You are welcome Christine...Steve...🙂

Thank you Jim...Steve...🙂
Nice ✌️
Many thanks DN...Steve...🙂
Great video with great info and advice.
Thank you...Steve...🙂
Good tutorial 👍 one of the drawbacks is sliding doors.
Yes it could be, you just might have to get creative with how and where you fit it, I'm pretty certain it could still be done, just requires a little more thinking...Steve...🙂
Ideally, you should have one high vent and one low vent for better trans airflow
Great Steve perfect timimg. I'm about to put the cover on a poly house and was wondering how to do windows.
Good luck with the cover, be patient and take you time to not "snag" the cover...Steve...🙂
If used on single doors would be a PITA to keep walking past the projecting autovent sticking out into the door opening unless there was enough room beside the door for it to open >90 degrees, plus blackbirds would be straight through the open window nicking all my strawberries and, whereas in a greenhouse the vents start opening when hot up in the apex, the temperature would need to be sufficient down at chest height.
I recall seeing a design online where the opener is mounted at a higher level up above the crop bars, and operates a vent at lower level by means of a cord and pulley, but can't find it again. It probably had an inward opening vent, otherwise it would have required a gantry over an outward one, and must have only worked at one end with access from the opposite end.
I've got 2 Bayliss autovents awaiting a design for single 90 degree opening doors at each end that keeps birds out, but lets me in. It might have to be a door mounted opener with an external wedge shaped 'cage' for the window to open into at the front together with chopping out a chunk of adjoining bed so the door can open wider, and another operated by high level opener/cord/pulley at the rear with an open-in window behind a flat mesh panel.
I have delayed replying to this topic fora few days whilst I assessed some of what you have written and some of my own concerns. With the door open the wax cylinder only projects 5-6 inches, so not a pain at all, the open window for me is on a door I dont use too much so not in my way, if fitted on the only single door and door was in use, then projecting window would be out of the way, behind the open door, no need to alter beds, that would be overkill. Black brids getting in? Staple some netting either over the front or the inside, not a big deal really and I will be doing this soon to mine. You just fit the window then deal with it, not really an issue at all. I have also fitted some sensors in the tunnel (sensor push) one at waist heaight and one right up at the very peak of the tunnel, the readings are telling me that even at the hottest time of the afternoon, when I am not there and the doors are shut, there is a 1.5 degree difference between the two sensors, this tells me that the window openers are doing their job as I wished them too...Steve...🙂
Where did you get the contraption you put on the window so it opens?
Hello sir where are you from
North West England...Steve...🙂
Kind of the only place they can go really diddy pop????
It has made a big difference to the airflow in there...Steve...🙂
Must cost you a penny or 2 in staples
No, I used one whole "stick" of staples for both windows, so very cheap...Steve...🙂
Great video again Steve. I think you should have had Tony come and give a hand. Now that would have been a show. All you need now is a solar powered fan or two. Hope you have a great season.
Oh my, can you imagine that, windows done but tunnel is down...Steve...🙂
