Shop Dust Collector UPGRADE! | Oneida V-System 3000 Dust Collector

- A wood shop dust collector is one of the most critical tools in the shop but is often overlooked. I have been running a highly modified Harbor Freight dust collector with an Oneida Super Dust Deputy cyclone for several years now and it worked very well in my old shop but was a little lacking in power for the new space. Not sure if it was the layout of the new shop but it was time for an upgrade.
I reached out to Oneida to see if they wanted to put a system in the shop and they offered to place a new V-system 3000 and I was all game! This DC is a MASSIVE upgrade over my modified system. 3HP vs a "2HP" harbor freight motor but the biggest difference is the impeller. The HF model has a 7-8" impeller and the V-System has a 15" monster of an impeller, what a difference!
I also installed a Dust Sentry sensor to notify me when the dust bin is full and prevent overfilling and clogging of the HEPA filter.
Big thanks to Oneida for outfitting the shop with the new system, be sure to checkout their website for all your dust collection, and cyclone needs.

Nice video, thanks T! Now that you've been using it for a while, do you have any comments? How would you rate the noise? Separation? Do you have to clean out the filter box often? Looking to buy one soon, thanks, Jerry
Originally it was louder than my HF setup but I have since added a silencer that Oneida offers and to be honest, when I have my earplugs in from running other tools I can't even tell if it's on. Can hold a conversation with it on now, highly recommend the silencer. Separation is fantastic, when I added the silencer it was the first time I looked in the filter, barely anything there, have never cleaned it out yet! Very good system!
@@DIYTyler Good to know because I literally JUST ordered one within the last hour LOL. With the silencer! Not looking forward to installing all the ducting, but whaddya gonna do, has to be done :)
Good, good! One thing. If they haven't ready changed over to nylocks for the cyclone assembly....do that. I brought up that they rattle loose over time and they said they would send them out now with nylocks.
@@DIYTyler One suggestion on the bolts is to have one facing down the other facing up. and just go around all bolts like that. It worked when I use to work on aircrafts. It prevents loosing and falling off.
I was a big fan of your HF 2 Stage system. It's great to see your growth over time and success. And your upgrades! Thanks for all the good content you put out.
Your son is so cute and he is funny I love seeing your kids in your videos thanks for sharing.
I just bought a HF dust collector inspired on the video series of your built and now I come across this. Wow, it looks awesome, I am happy for you. I will still embark of the HF two stage conversion project using many of your ideas and let see how it comes out. I think is really cool that we are both in Michigan. Really like your channel, keep up the good work!
Best part is where kiddo says "I like it!".
Congratulations! on the new dust collector upgrade Tyler! looks great' Thanks for sharing the video.😎👍JP
Awsome upgrade to your shop love all your videos they always make me wanna go to my shop and make something
Very nicely done Tyler. That looks like it will make your dust pretty much disappear.
Thanks for sharing
Just bought one, I’m going to use your wall mount support idea. Thanks for the video.
Love seeing and hearing the kids in your videos
Thanks man!
Nice vid Tyler, I just finished upgrading my single stage shop fox to a duel stage with a super dust deputy from oneida. Waiting on the super cartridge filter to come in tomorrow! I was inspired by your previous vids with the wyn env filters
Nice system. Tyler. Sons getting big!
I JUST BOUGHT THE SAME SYSTEM. I'm running all the metal ducts now and can't wait to work in a closed air conditioned shop this summer.
Pretty cool Tyler, you have a good one yourself!
Great overview! Wish I'd have seen it before putting together mine a few months ago. It's funny… I almost went with the HF setup, inspired mainly by how good and thorough your videos were on it. I decided however that eventually I'd outgrow that unit, so I went with the V3000 right away. Now here you are upgrading to the same reason, which reassures me I made the right choice!
I'm still figuring out my ducting (just moving a stepped-down 5" flex hose at the moment from machine to machine), but will likely go aluminum 7" for a trunk, stepping down to 5" at branches, then 4" to each machine. Biggest challenge will be running a line across the shop, as a large garage door will be in the way unless I double back a bit. May need to play with the outlet angle a bit (though I got the stand rather than the wall mount, so perhaps I can just rotate it, though that will take up more floor space). Also still need to install the dust sensor, as I haven't gotten a step bit yet. Just manually keeping tabs for now, but it'll be nice once that's installed.
It's a monster, all right. My bin (same size) lifts off the floor from the suction until it gets partially full, but I've read that's expected and actually indicates a good seal on your system.
Pretty cool they put this vid right on their site!! Cool Oneida!!!
Nice. I'm sure it kicks butt! Beast vacuum!!!!
What an upgrade dude! I'm envious!
A very good job Tyler , well done . This is so great to see man .🥇🎯📈👍
Thanks Louis!!
Sweet upgrade! 👍👊
Love the light feature!
"I like it" Love the commentary from your son. I did a full out laugh out loud.
Yup! Had to leave that one in there!
Wow! I want one! lol Enjoy your new dust collector.
Very cool upgrade.
Very nice upgrade for a freebie!! as MrBrianDuga commented, a $2K model.
Hope you enjoy the new power that you have.
Barry (ENG)
Awesome video Tyler. Really jealous of the new unit but more jealous of that special hammer you used @1:55 haha
*drool* Wow, that thing is beautiful! And HUGE! That dust sensor is awesome. Gotta get one of those!
Clever boy ! he knew that hole for something
Well worth the money in Oneida’s advertising budget given the drooling woodworkers in the comments (myself included). Only wish they had given you a coupon code for their products to go along with this video to add a bit more enticement. 2k is pretty steep but I’m sure I’ll upgrade someday. Nice to know this is an option. Now if I could just afford the cyclone for my HF dust collector...
Great video and Oneida definitely got far more than their money's worth in advertising spend. $3500 retail, likely $500-600 BOM - where else can you get this kind of coverage out to over 300k subscribers and countless thousands more for under $1000? We get a cool video to watch, you get a nice dust collection system and Oneida gets great advertisement. Wins all around.
Great job, great system. 👍Vinny 🇺🇸
I also upgraded to a 3hp Oneida a while back. Very powerful for a small shop!
Nice system man. Someday when I get my bigger shop I'll upgrade to something like this
Coming from the exact same system. Great video
Oneida is the only brand of dust collection I would use. American made, high quality.
Very nice indeed!
Heck Ya. Good for you Tyler. I agree with your son, I like it.
I've owned one of these for about a year and it's still sitting in my shop in the boxes! Between the day job and family, it's just hard to find the time to get it together. This video definitely helps give me a leg up on knowing how to get it put together.
Get on it!!
More money than time.
Good job
Lucky duck. Looks like a nice unit.
Greeaaat, after I bought all the stuff to do your old setup lol. I’m just a hobby guy though so no love lost. I’m sure my HF will work just fine for my needs. Sweet setup though Tyler!!
It worked great for me for many years!
Excellent video. The only thing I'm not over excited about is the 35gal container. Oneida does offer a 55 gal option but not sure if the entire setup will fit in my basement.
Tyler I built the dust collector with the components from Harbor freight and made everything out of plywood and two by fours Using your design but with some modifications. It came out great and works beautifully. I want to connect a 1 1/2” flex hose off the main line which is 4 inch PVC to a hose reel so I don’t have to drag my shop vac around all over the shop, Hitting the corners pulling the power cord etc. Facilitate this I would like you to demonstrate how to build a large ceiling mount hose reel out of plywood and pvc as the commercial hose reels are three hundred dollars or more. I started thinking why am I using my under powered shop back to clean up the shop When I have this completely efficient and powerful dust collection system 3 feet away.
I’m always inspired by your practice and enthusiasm! You’re great at what you do! Thank you
Jxn
Very nice
That is a great upgrade. I am not a big fan of the Frankenstein systems where you combine assorted parts. They don't seem to play together effectively.
I am also impressed with how you tossed the 3 HP motor onto the system. I struggled with the 1-1/2 HP motor in mine. There was not a good way to grab hold of it.
Bummer that you don't have the room to put a 55 gallon barrel or something larger to collect the dust. Nice work. Now get those pipes done! :D
Did Oneida just give you the V System 3 HP dust collector? Wow! I have the same setup you had before the V system with the Dust Deputy by Oneida. It does fairly well, I have a long and narrow shop. Anyway I know it's probably mind boggling to say the least! Please fill me in!!! Good job!
Sweet!!!
that's fantastic to big for my shop
I'm thinking more along the lines of a clear vue. Haven't made my mind up yet.
Woot Number #2 - I'm building a similar system now.
One thing I like right away with that collector is the filter. It looks easy to remove the filter. Reason is it is nice to remove and blow them out once in a while. My DC isn’t as large as this one but I do blow out the filter and it makes a ton of difference. I just use my leaf blower. This one looks easy to remove which makes it very nice.
You don't need to remove the filter on those to blow them out... the container on the bottom of the filter is there to catch the dust when you blow it out. Hit it with compressed air, let it settle, remove the container, and dump it out. Less effort. It's still easy to take the filter off, but it's not necessary with this setup.
How’s the collector doing now? Oldie but goodie video. Always worth a revisit.
Rocking like it's brand new! Have to tighten the bolts on the flange connecting the top and bottom here and there but that's it!
Oh sweet! It’s such a sexy looking tool! I have the HF dust collector and it’s fairly quiet. You notice a difference in sound?
You said, "Jimmy Rigged".... I'm offended!!!! Lol....
Heck of a dust collector!!!!
lol! Thanks man!
Yeah new video!
Tyler, I'm looking to buy my first dust collection unit. Any advice when comparing this Oneida V3000 to a 2hp Laguna Pflux?
Tyler do you have any videos of building simple easy outside wood handrails. Please
Great video Tyler - thanks. Question - do you sill have the shop-vac powered dust collector in the other corner of the shop attached to the Rocker dust hose reel? Can you explain how you use the two different systems, if you do?
Yes I still have that system as well. Shop vac is just that, a floor vacuum (a sander vac if you don't have an extractor) dust collector is hooked to big tools and has a way higher airflow for moving fine dust.
Do you get enough draw with the 4 inch pipe?
Nice. I am guessing you will be moving to 6" runs at some point.
So what about the warranty issue with moving the discharge/filter?
Nice, comprehensive video as always, Tyler. So re-positioning the outlet by a few degrees voids the warranty? Ouch - that's tough. I would think O'Neida might build a little adjustability into the system to accommodate uniqueness in shop layouts. Also, do they offer a larger reservoir? More of a rhetorical question I guess, as I'm happy with my HF setup and likely not in the market right now. Thanks!
Hi Ryan,
We spotted your comment and wanted to clarify. The V-System inlet and outlet can be freely rotated at 45 degree increments to accommodate most shop layouts, but Tyler chose to refine that even further to save space. By physically drilling new holes into the system, this does technically void the cyclone's warranty, but the fan blower's warranty is still valid. The fact of the matter is that we can't make guarantees on products that have been altered once they leave our factory. However, Oneida Air Systems will always work with our customers to support their products for years to come, regardless of warranty.
We do offer larger "reservoirs" as well, such as 55 gallon bins, or you can choose to supply your own if you have a spare barrel that you can use.
Have you had a chance to check it with a decibel meter yet?
what's the distance from left side of cycline motor to the right side of the filter? looks nice and compact!
Nice , But you just sold me on the HF unit in your last video so what should I start with?
Darren TX
Your impeller is SO BIG!!
hehehe
how loud is it? just listening and watching i don''t think it was turned up to normal level ?? thanks,, doug
Thank you for sharing Tyler. One question, by attaching it to the wall, can you tell if it's running if you're in a different room? I'm looking at buying this, and was going to mount it on a garage wall that the house also uses.
I can hear it running from outside the shop but not because of vibration just the natural sounds of the machine.
@@DIYTyler thank you sir! That's good to know.
Any feedback to share after using this for 2 years now? Do you still like it? Any issues? would you buy or recommend it again?
Tyler, have you decided to make the jump to 6” piping or is this still working good for you?
Still have the 4" and I have no complaints
Looks like a great system!
Do you have a discount code associated with your channel?
THANKS
ANDY.
Отличный циклон 👍.молодец. но они видимо только на вашем рынке.
3:23, anyone up for a game of basketball? LOL
I have the HF dust collector and changed to a 12" impeller but I use 30 gauge metal ducting mostly. Did you have to ground your dust collector? For some reason I get tons of dust all over the ducting overhead, the only machines that is doesn't do a good with on dust collection are my 3 HP cabinet saw and my bosch 12" miter saw. I get dust all over my ducting and overhead lights as well. However my main question is this, how well does your Oneida 3 HP collector do with hand electric routers with dust ports and small electric sander dust ports?
What is the overall height of that system with your wall mount and how much could you shave off of that by making the hose to the bin shorter? I only have 86” in my shop.
Don't remember exactly but I know I am a bit under 8" in my shop so I wouldn't be surprised if it's around 86". You can make the connection hose between the cyclone and the bin shorter but I don't think you can shorten the bin. Has hardware on it for the lid connection and honestly, 30gals is pretty small!
looking at getting one should have when i bought my cnc from sabre have one for it bit you know what i mean when i said but lol
How noisy is it in comparison?
Tyler G, I ordered the Super Dust Deputy you recommended in your other video to convert my Jet 1 stage DC (not installed yet). After seeing this video makes me wonder if I should just pull the trigger on a premade system or upgrade my current set up. I also see the Guy's Woodshop also switched out his DIY collection system. So the question,.(don't take it personally) If Oneida didn't generously supply the new system would you have shelled out the 2K+ on a new system or would you have kept your DIY set-up? I'm sure a manufactured is much more efficient than a homemade version of a cyclone, but did you feel the DIY version is worth the time and money to put together? Thank you, John
John, at some point I would have upgraded to a larger system, don't know if it would have been now or later. I noticed that my throat had been bothering me since we moved to this shop so something had to be changed, I want to do this for a long time. I added a WEN air filter the same time as I installed this system.
I would recommend setting a budget and getting the best you can, if you have to work your way up in steps do that. ANYTHING is better than nothing. The HF is great for the price and my setup made it quite efficient but it is simply limited by the size of the impeller. The HF has like a 7-8" diameter, this Onieda has a FIFTEEN inch impeller. Another good option would be a ShopFox or Grizzly but overall the Oneida will be a better system.
@@DIYTyler in your old system I believe you were using 4 inch pipe. Did you feel you had enough suction at your furthest run. How did the bearings hold up in the motor by mounting it on its side?
No ill effects from the motor being mounted sideways, ran great for years. In my old shop I never had a run plug up...had it happen once on the new shop but I don't think my duct setup was as efficient in the new space.
The HF collector will only be able to generate enough air speed in a 4" pipe. Will need a bigger blower if you want to go with 6"...and a thick wallet.
@@DIYTyler Thanks, I most likely will be running 4" piping. You're right on the thick wallet, I priced out 5" it's $120 for 20' compared to 4" for under $20 for the same length.
Thanks for replying.
Wow they just gave you a free $2K model. That's incredible. Time for 6" pipes! lol
How quickly does the waste drum fulls
Depends on what your doing. A 17" Grizzly bandsaw resawing 5 four foot long 12" round walnut logs and some strips of 1/2 plywood and cutting up 2 sheets of plywood it got full over 2 months. Yet if I was using the planer or jointer it would be full in a matter of minutes. I use a aux waste can with a pre separator to drop most of it in there. A 35 gallon can will fill up pretty fast surface planning rough sawn to a finish thickness.
I'm drooling over a 5hp Dust Gorilla, and will buy it someday. Do you find that your upgraded HF collector was a worthwhile step (I'm ball parking $900 if I swap for a larger impeller and the XL Dust Deputy), or should I just make due with the stock HF collector and put the remaining $700 in the tool savings fund? Just looking for an honest opinion.
I wouldn't mess with the larger impeller. HF collector an SDD (Not the XL) will get your by for a long time before upgrade. Much cheaper.
Thanks!@@DIYTyler
Tuyệt vời
Why didn't you show us how much more powerful it is? I have the same simular unit but mine is 5 hp., don't have mine connected yet. How about show us the suction power.
the dust bin seems small. how big is it?
33 gallons, a bigger one would be nice but I would have to mount the entire thing higher.
I need to install the weather stripping myself? yikes
Im sweating watching you in a hooded sweatshirt! (of course i am from south florida)
Two grand. I don’t know.
HI IM JUANCARLOS FROM NU-WELL KITCHEN CABINETS IN LOS ANGELES IM LOOK FORWARD TO REPLACE MY DUST SYSTEM. I HAVE QUESTION WHERE DO YOU BUY THIS UNIT .THANK YOU.
Check out Oneida Air online.
Dust collectors like grandparents or wives should be kept in a separate room.
LOLOL
That wall mount is insanely over priced. Whyyy Oneida :(
Watching you use the caliper as a scribe makes me cringe. I calibrate these for a living along with other items and am always taken back when they fail calibration due to bent tips on the points of the jaw. Now I understand why our customers always have faulty equipment. I guess when you aren't concerned with precision it's okay...close enough.
Hey Tyler, bought the same unit. Have you changed your piping since filming this install? Especially interested in how you connected the tubing to the 7” inlet. Thanks!
Have not changed fees anything at this point! If I ever do move the unit I will likely make the main trunk 6" but the machine drops will remain 4".
