Thank you for that your timing was perfect I was feeling sick to my stomach because of a couple of comments I got on Facebook in respect of my latest video offering but seeing You and Emma and her mum had cheered me up and put things into perspective and I think your observations about people are spot on. I'm glad I have a cat to cuddle when I am down, cats just make me laugh. Take care. Alan x

You are so right about how people do not change what they are during a pandemic. Those who are normally "nice" people are the ones who observe social distancing and mask wearing, out of respect for others and themselves, while the others just don't have enough brains to work out that lack of respect for proper social distancing etc is the reason that new cases appear each day which prolongs the need for lockdown or some level of restrictions. In France lockdown was more rigorous than UK and currently UK is getting approx 3000 new cases daily whereas in France daily new cases are in low hundreds. Stay safe ladies xx

Great to see you’re both fit and well and have survived lockdown so far! I think that’s first time I’ve seen narrowboat mum but it’s been nice to see you catch up with the others boaters during isolation. I really want to get back to normal but we just have to be patient and try our best to overcome this terrible virus. It was lovely to see the cats on the boat roof. We watch RUclips on TV and Jasper barks at all the animals and birds. It was hilarious because he was right up to the TV barking when a shot of Munchie filled the screen and he shot back onto the sofa next to me. I’ve been struggling to keep up with my RUclips viewing but hopefully as things get back to normal I’ll be able to catch up. Thanks as always for sharing your adventure and I can’t believe it’s a year since you bought your new boat. Take care.

I totally agree with your nice person theory. Same thing is happening here in the U.S. The self-centered people are out protesting about not having their civil liberties and the rest of us are at home isolating, trying to not spread the virus to our friends and family and not overwhelm the healthcare system. It's a frustrating time.

Hello Annamarie and Kath. Good afternoon to you both. Good evening from Australia. I just finished watching the Vlog. I am still learning so much about the canals. Correct me if I am wrong, the towpath is part of the canals and the CRT? The CRT upkeep and do repairs on the towpaths? OK, the towpath is for the general public and boaters. Yet, you have had a man tell you to 'get off the towpath, I own it." So does this man pay his Yearly fee to the CRT? To make such a claim? I am guessing he does not put one cent to the CRT. We do not have anything like the canals in Australia. Where I live there are extensive combined Walk and cycle paths. I have had just one rude person have a go at me when riding my bicycle. Even though I was riding in the correct lane. Then on a walk in the same place, a walker coming the other way had a go at me. Again I was in the correct lane. There are very rude people who think they 'own' places. I think Karma will take care of these rude people. I just enjoy getting out of the house. To ride my bike or walk.

Lived in a big, home-converted van for five years; same sort of thing. When you're parked up in a public space like a car park, random people would put their head in the door and peer around saying stuff like, "You've done a nice job here"; my wife would go into meltdown. LOL. Or they would press their face against a window to try and see inside; so you just slap the glass from the inside as hard as possible; great sport. :)

At least you are both healthy, which is the most important thing in the long run.

Great to see you on the move again, it was a treat to see the cats out enjoying themselves. C19 brings both the worst and the best out of different people and no matter what the situation you will always get people who believe they have an entitlement over others. The UK is one of only two countries in Europe to implement a 2mtr rule while the rest of Europe follows the WHO recommendation of 1 mtr. That in no way implies that the 2 mtr rule is not safer, but perhaps we will find that when we relax social distancing in the very near future this will elevate some of the pressures on people using our waterways and tow paths for recreation. Please keep up with the blogs and keep safe.

I've had this discussion with Phil of Narrowboat Journeys several months ago. The narrowboaters pay for a license to cruise on the cut. Since the CRT maintains the cut and the towpath, I would think the fee you pay gives you more entitlement to the towpath. The home owners have other routes they can follow instead of closing in on boats that are moored. You're right, people who are normally kind will be kind during this epidemic. I don't think the home owners own the towpath. Maybe I'm wrong, but if these people live along the canal, then they must be accommodating. If they're bothered by boaters, why do they live along a canal that for years has had leisure boating? The canals were built for boaters. I think people should get used to what is going on as it may be with us for longer than we hoped. Best to you both, Jane, Philadelphia

    • @jasonbrant6394
      @jasonbrant6394 4 года назад

The problem is as I see it the crt simply don't have the funds or feet on the ground to maintain a large majority of its waterways so by continuously up grading tow paths using both boaters and anglers money they can be seen to be making an effort . As an organisation they would benefit greatly by employing actual enthusiasts at every level instead of make a quick buck capitalists. And don't even get me started on cyclists ,oh and what about all the restoration groups doing great work to reopen lost canals,a admirable intention but the crt can't look after what it's already charged with. The leeds Liverpool was open to traffic for 10 days only before lock down and essential movement guidelines and it closed completely for probably the rest of the year on 28 April sighting lack of water. I rest my case.

Good health and happiness to you both. My wife two years ago, went on a narrow boat holiday for a week with three other nurses she works
With. They we’re moored up when a man came down the footpath with his two dogs and as he passed he made a comment about “gay women are taking over the world “ one of the girls told him not to be rude and Jog on. He was abusive back by calling them names. He smelt of alcohol.
As he got about 20 yards further along the footpath he collapsed and his dogs started barking. The girls went down to check on him and ended up giving him CPR and calling for an ambulance. They were later told their quick actions saved his life from an heart attack. He and his wife later contacted the girls to thank them for what they had done and apologise for what he had said. They wanted to tell a local newspaper to thank the girl’s publicly however the girls declined and said that they were just pleased to be able to help him when he needed help most. Xxx

Consideration.....well said. My wealthy, entitled country landlord has regular toxic fires right next to my property leaving me unable to open my windows or go outside.....and heaven knows what the smoke which is so awful is doing to nature. I have asked him not to but he still does it if he thinks the wind is in the right direction! I always thought you were only supposed to burn garden waste not plastic and everything else! Added to that a neighbour who uses the same burn pile regardless of the wind direction and thinks burning mattresses etc is ok.......the number of times I have had to bring my washing in and hold my tongue to keep the peace!! I appreciate your insights about distancing and respect for people's concerns. It's a constant point of conversation among my family and friends. I find as i go masked into a grocery store I'm so distracted by watching for people and space that by the time I've gone home I discover I've usually forgotten at least two or three things on my list. The theory is underlying stress of concern for safety. It's frustrating, occasionally amusing particularly if my list is short and i get home with the milk but no cereal. Arghh. Surely i can blame the plague and not old age!

    Happy ownerversary!
What you describe about the yahoos on the towpath remind me of what we used to deal with as fairy farmers in a part of the US that was definitely rural but within a half-hour drive (not generally seen as a long drive here) of a city: people would decide our and neighbor's property was public land and be belligerent about it. A lot were mushroom pickers who would then pick things from our gardens. Though my favorite was the one who picked a bunch of corn from one of our fields and had the audacity to complain because it didn't taste good (it wasn't sweetcorn.) We had a bit of a fight with one because he drove into a muddy spot in a farm road (accessed only our fields) that we had just spent a lot of time and money repairing, got stuck and proceeded to totally destroy the repair work we had done in the process of trying to get his truck out of there.

Ouch! Dearest Annamarie, please don't scare me by holding avocado as you remove the stone. Place it down on a firm surface, hold it by bridging your fingers. Keeping them clear of the knife and with the knife safely away from your palm. You nearly gave me a heart attack!

Firstly congratulations on the 1st anniversary of being on Lazy Days, secondly it's unfortunate that there seems to be too many selfish people about. The proof that your theory that nice people stay in and live by the rules of the lockdown is proved true by your own actions, good to see Alice and Munchie as well. Stay safe and well.

It's the same over here in the U.S. Many, many people are purposefully NOT social distancing or wearing masks, citing rights of freedom, etc. But, honestly, with feedom comes RESPONSIBILITY. They just don't get it. I agree with you about the kind, good people. It's going to come down to survivial of the kindest and smartest. You two will be among the survivors.

Hello ladies, great job! Munchie looks so much like my first cat Poohder. So adorable. In Nebraska we also have people who are both nice and entitled about social distancing. Stay safe and keep on keeping on ladies!

I live in a small, mountain tourist town and we are experiencing similar problems. Our county supervisor issued an order for people NOT to come up here, but they did anyway. No masks, nothing. They do what they want to do regardless of the rules. Tourists are always a problem because they do not respect the area or the locals, even in normal times. They block roads, set up BBQ grills in the turn outs so no cars can pull into them, trespass on private properties and leave trash all over everywhere. Just this morning for instance, we actually found a bunch of clothes in our drive way. What the heck?? We also have a lot of people with vacation homes up here who are coming up and hiding out in their second homes. This would be ok except they are coming from all over the state and who knows what germs they are bringing with them. Plus there is an order not to come up here for any reason. Also, our little village cannot support such an influx of people being here full time as we do not have the medical facilities or a large grocery store. Therefore, the locals who are obeying the rules and sheltering in place are being forced to travel 50 to 100 miles round trip to the larger grocery stores in the cities because our local market is all bought out. I agree with what Cath said. People who are nice during the pandemic were nice people anyway. I think this whole situation is giving a lot of people an every man for himself attitude and as long as they have what they need, to heck with everyone else. There are a lot of very selfish people out there and this pandemic just brings their poor behavior to light.

Bravery is cutting an avocado on a moving boat! OK, so it's probably less risky on a narrowboat than, say, out on the high seas... Sorry some of the folks on the towpath continue to pick the hardest spots, but please stay safe and upbeat. Thanks for sharing the video with us on your possibly last cruise for water in this section of the canal *gasp* And Happy 2nd Boataversary!

Nice to see you again. At about 19 minutes in to the video, your gray cat meowed and my cat reacted (head up and ears toward the computer). She rarely reacts to things on the computer. Yesterday she growled at a motor boat that was about to make a nasty wake :) Things are good here. Hope all is well for y'all. Keep staying safe!

Sensitive people live the least according to their own sensitivities, because they react and adjust towards the needs and feelings of others.
Less sensitive people live the most according to their own sensitivities, because they are less receptive to the needs and feeling of others.
This dilemma makes the nice people (the sensitive ones) usually take the brunt in any confrontation.

Another great vlog girls! Glad that you are now both winding experts. I agree with your comments about nice people vs louts. When we leave our canal to the harbor, we pass a public fishing pier. We always wave to the folks on the pier. Most wave back and smile, a few just stare, and a very few make “impolite gestures”. I don’t feel sorry for them, as being a lout is usually a choice (although, to be fair, it is sometimes the result of mental illness or incapacity). But, I do feel sorry for their wives or partners, who are trapped sharing their miserable existence. We cruise on to our next anchorage, and hope things change for the better for them. We’ve had a bit of a mishap with our boat. It seems one of the cutlass bearings has gone bad and is making a huge racket. We’ll have to have the boat hauled and have it replaced. That will be a 45 mi trip, navigating through the marina, and docking in the slipway on one engine...and then breaking out the checkbook. Maybe there will be pictures. Keep up the good work and stay safe.

The 2 ducks on the sunken boat could be called, Ti (tye) and Tanic. Its unfortunate that even though the most important rule of behaviour should be 'just because you can doesn't mean you should', Its the least observed rule of any.

What are the regulations about mooring on the opposite side of the towpath? I have noticed that some places opposite do have Armco. 🍀

I think you said the key words. "Guidelines". The reality is there are 80 million people in the u.k. if you are on a narrow tow path, you keep as far away as practically possible. If you have the space, keep your distance. If you don't, hold your breath as you go pass.

@@TheNarrowboatExperience you were talking about people walking and coming across fishermen. Hold your breath as you walk 6ft either side of them.
