Mitsuha's teacher is one of the main protagonists of the movie "the garden of words" from the same director, Makoto Shinkai The movie "weathering with you" is also set in the same universe
59:46 “In order to return from the netherworld, you must leave something behind - The kuchikamizake. After all, it is part of you.” “Drinking something like tea or sake is a union - Musubi. It bonds your souls.” When Mitsuha gave Taki the cord, they no longer “both” had it, and the connection was lost. By drinking the kuchikamizake they reconnected, and by returning her cord he gave her her life back, but the connection was lost again. Katawaredoki (twilight, magic hour, etc) is when two times exist at once. The edge of the shrine is where life and death exist at once. That’s how they were able to connect right there and then. Part of Comet Tiamat has struck Itomori three times now, first being the shrine, second being the lake (might be mixed up). The forgotten history of Miyamizu Shrine is the history of Comet Tiamat. The dance represents the comet’s approach and separation, the kuchikamizake is a way to leave some of yourself behind, and the cords are a way to connect with someone to save everyone. It’s no coincidence that Mitsuha sheltered her kuchikamizake and left her cord with Taki the day before she died. The background world building and lore of this movie is exceptional, and makes a rewatch just as good as the first!
funny that you mentioned that the "stuff falling from the sky" could be snow or cherry blossoms, because the director of this also made the movie "5cm Per Second". The title of which is referring to the speed that snow and cherry blossoms fall, and they name both specifically in that movie.
I am a man, so when I saw the embroidery on Okudera's skirt, I didn't think anything of it, but for the first time I heard a man say ADORABLE when he saw the embroidery on Okudera's skirt.
53:52 Yes! Whenever we see Taki in his own body, he wears the cord. For the first half of the movie, you can always tell when they’re in their own bodies based on whether or not they’re wearing the cord. When they switch, neither knows the other has it. This is disguised as Taki simply not knowing how to do Mitsuha’s hair, but less obvious is Mitsuha not wearing Taki’s bracelet.
15:55 Actually it’s 3D CGI. When spinning, you can see a polygon catch on Mitsuha’s back along the right shoulder seam. It’s used a ton and this movie has some of the best 3D integration out there.
where did you get this info from? i remember a blog about Your Name talking about this scene. It said that this scene was 2d animated and heavily rotoscoped/referenced. you can even search for the performance of the kabuki actor in which the animation was based on.
I don't know that you could see it but Taki write '' I love you'' in Mitsuha's hand instead of his name. That's the most emotional part. I'm sorry if you could see that. You're reaction is fantastic.
I’m not familiar with you two before this, but you mentioned LGBT and ASD media a few times. If you like that, and liked this, and happy-crying in general, I strongly recommend *_Violet Evergarden._*
I recommend Godzilla Minus One. This movie is not a monster movie for children. It is a heartwarming human story for adults. The lead actor is the voice actor of Taki in Your Name
You should definitely react to "Ponyo on the Cliff" and "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind" both are anime movies made by Hayo Miyazaki 😍👍 As something more cartoony, I would suggest "Shezow", a very avant-gardist cartoon about identity, gender, social norms and more (but was cancelled by anti-LGBTQIA+ lobbies sadly, so 1 season only)!
You need to watch 5cm per second now. Its the other side of the same coin and both movies need to be watched asap to appreciate them. Made by the same Author.
Remember Musubi takes away what is most precious to them. Each other's names were the most precious thing, and that's why Taki wrote "I love you." because in Japan messages of love are protected by the Moon God, Tsukuyomi. And therefore wouldn't be erased.
Again a movie version with no subtitles in Mitshuha´s hand that is almost the most important scene of the movie ruins a great reaction. PD: great reaction overall. I wish you could find the translation for Mitshuha scene
Great reaction but man I hate the translation in the subtitles from whatever source you're using. Not like I speak Japanese either but it's obvious this one is trying so hard to avoid using any Japanese phrases that it changes meanings completely. For example the official subs still keep the phrase "kataware-doki" for twilight, and they explain perfectly well enough in English that it means twilight, but when the subtitle here insists on ONLY using English phrases like "golden hour" and another kid saying "magic hour" they then have to use some nonsense about only photographers say "magic hour"... which, what? How is "magic hour" a photographer term? Whereas originally that exchange was about the teacher saying "kataware-doki" and the other kid asking if it's the same as a similar but different phrase, and the teacher noting that's a phrase from an older dialect which helps to expand on Itomori being an old-fashioned town. The translation here robs this whole scene of half its meaning in setting up what the town is like, and there's a bunch of other examples of that here.
It's unwritten rule that if someone watch Your Name, they must watch A Silent Voice. So please, watch it hahaha.
So much crying
the holy duo
right !! theyre like a cry-movie duo lol

1:28:20 It is! Yotsuha is now the same age Mitsuha was throughout the movie!
One of my favorite movies of all time. Btw, great reaction from the both of you. You followed the story well through the end.

Lol
日本人として、アニメファンとして、「君の名は。」を見てくださってありがとうございました!
The director said that the door POV shots and time-lapse shots were inspired by Breaking Bad of all things!
The future appearances of the two appear in Makoto Shinkai's movie "Weathering With You," so please take a look!
We'll definitely have to give it a watch!
Still makes me cry 😭😭😭
I’m not familiar with you two before this, but you mentioned LGBT and ASD media a few times. If you like that, and liked this, and happy-crying in general, I strongly recommend *_Violet Evergarden._*
When you go back to change the past, the present will be changed too, and the future.
