Gotta love these borderline psychadelic, public safety information films . The goos ol' days when they weren't afraid to scare the freakin' bejsysus out of kids in the pursuit of keeping your kids safe. These days you don't need to worry about this stuff coz kids are more interested in console games and adiction to your mobile phone. Tut
Bugger video nasties these were truly mind numbingly horrific to little children and in my case led to a life long obsession to horror oh and matches (shut up Charley!) God bless the makers of these horror shorts.👍👍👍👍
I remember watching these public service announcements growing up, and I remember that the message got through to me about stranger danger. I didn't think they were creepy growing up but they seem a bit dark now. Loved Charlie - but yes, a bit of a know it all. Devoid of accent - old school Queens English, from London or somewhere south.
Today, that kid is an adult in an asylum for the criminally insane. His only childhood friend was a cat he claimed could talk, & the animal cruelty people were also on his case.
Never found these at all scary as a kid in the 1970s, in fact i use to love these, my favorite public info films "not found on here" was the kid who put a tin of dogs food in the oven and tried to cook it.. One that spings to mind was the house all burnt out and the creepy sounds of children screaming, that one was disturbing. Anyway im off to find joe and Petunia, what a pair of halfwits there were...
I don't personally think the messages or the voicing is creepy. I don't find this creepy at all, but I think it's more about the animation's lagginess/style or colour that might unsettle some people.
Its not creepy. I was never disturbed by these when I was a nipper. Now I have been reminded I will show them all to my son. He will like them for sure.
Classic scary Charlie ads. The scariest was the stranger one and the other scary ad with joe and petunia. I was about 6 or 7- sometimes if I went to bed too soon after these I would be scared of the dark and have nightmares!
The little boy who voices Charley’s friend was actually not a professional actor and was actually the son of the creator’s next door neighbor, which is why his readings are a little bit flat. He was only 7 at the time that he started voicing the character.
Venimus Vidimus yep he thinks his cat can talk. Just like the high school kid who did so many drugs that he thought his Great Dane could talk, as he hung around with vigilantes.
creepy but not as creepy as the sprit of dark and lonely water they would scare the hell out of you these but they got the message through our tiny little heads as kids.
that boy grew up to be tony blair .... stranger : hey boy you wanna see some WMD ? charlie : squeanasididhaidiiadiad boy: charlie says 'never go anywhere with strange US presidents you dont know '
Charlie say's don''t vote Conservative, as they can bugger up your country and be a t**t to pensioners and poor people, love Charlie I so remember theses films from childhood, I miss them. I wish they still did these films, Charlie love his voice he is insane .
"I told mummy that Charlie speaks to me in perfect English, so she's taking me to see a special doctor."
lol
Haven't seen these in years. After seeing them again, you realise how well made they were. They get the message across perfectly.
Charlie says if someone touches you wait 20 years before telling someone
this is the most ominous comment i have ever read
You do know why many people wait to tell? There are many factors.
"Charlie said Mewbrowowowowow, so we're having him put down." - Ashens
That... is brilliant
I know! No why people from 70s are disturbed
@@jamesquinn3715 At least people from the 70s could spell
@@sidb37 What! Which word have I misspelt? Its all fine dude
@@jamesquinn3715 No why should be know why dude.
Watching this after watching Inside Number 9 series 7 episode 6 entitled ‘Wise Owl’ which is based on these types of creepy public information films
I was a kid in the early 70s and was the target audience for these, they were very effective and very likely saved some kids lives.
Charlie: has a brain aneurysm
The kid: understandable, have a great day
Man, Charlie just wants to spoil everyone’s fun! 😆
I love Charlie bless him Xx🐱🐱

Kid are more likely to meet creepy people online than in public and its worse because usually the victim doesn't get justice.
my child likes to watch these Charlie pifs, they should make more pifs likes this for schools today
Legendary public information film for those who know! (PS nothing creepy about these, only the uploader),
These must be incredible to watch when stoned.
Charlie's well smart for a cat😂
bloody cat was scarier than the stranger
Aww no way. He was adorable!
@@dianewebb5772 Charlie sounds like he's on drugs when he talks.
For those who were wondering... The part of the stranger with the puppy was Fix it for you Jimmy.

I was born in 1978 and these all look familier. Perhaps thet were used in the 80's as well? Enjoyed them, thank you.
Is it weird that I think Charlie and the little boy are cute? Wish my cat gave me advice lol.
4:18 20 years later and Charly became the lead singer in the song Charly, by The Prodigy
Not Quite 30.1991
Kenny Everett did Charlie's voice, I believe.
Correct.
Charlie's a fucking fun sponge
4:18 Prodigy's track: Charly :)
i remember these in the 80's
Everyone in those days needed a talking cat. The 70’s were a war zone. 😅
my eyes, no matter how much i claw at them I cannot unsee that that THING'S face when it talks
Today, that kid is an adult in an asylum for the criminally insane. His only childhood friend was a cat he claimed could talk, & the animal cruelty people were also on his case.

Charlie says, "Mrbroewbmeow" so we're putting him down. Say goodbye to Charlie.
Classic scary Charlie ads. The scariest was the stranger one and the other scary ad with joe and petunia. I was about 6 or 7- sometimes if I went to bed too soon after these I would be scared of the dark and have nightmares!
0:37 never walk away with a guy with 2 broken mangled legs
Nice to know mummy was keeping a keen eye on her kid.. nah leave it to the fu**ing cat 😂😂
These adverts used to haunt me growing up lol

This reminds of old school south park
at a libary near my house theres 2 charlie says DVDS with all the charlie says videos and old pifs from the 60s 70s 80s and one from 1998
They should maybe show something like this for kids today.
Guessing this was how South Park was made to very inspirational
Tables are dangerous. They look like they're invincible. Why? THEY'RE FLOATING ON NOTHING!
"I got an apple and Charlie got something he really likes" ... if he had gone with the strange man he could have done better and got some sweets.
It's cute in its own strange way.
kenney evvert after a few pints done the voice for charlie
Charlie gets pretty banged up half the time in these shorts. Poor cat.
My childhood remember all these well..they should show them all now for kids & just how they are & not try to up date them etc
Too right. Kenny was a real one-of-a-kind :)
Oh my god the first one actually nearly made me cry it was so weird
That kid's eyes are still boring into my soul all these years later ~shudder~
Why dont they still play these there still so good for kids
ahhh The Prodigy!
Charlie says "don't suppose my top of the pops appearance will ever be shown again"
"Je Suis Charlie"
In fact Kenny Everett provided the "voice" of Charlie. David Walliams (Little Britain, BGT) is due to reprise that role.
The voice of charleys cat was "kenny everett".
0:28 ah yes , I could really understand that ….
Nah, that's not a public information film, that's the beginning of a 90s rave tune by The Prodigy!! lol
'Hey mum the cat says that bloke's a nonce'
Yep.
A sad tale about a young boy with severe neurological disorders.
Venimus Vidimus yep he thinks his cat can talk. Just like the high school kid who did so many drugs that he thought his Great Dane could talk, as he hung around with vigilantes.
Venimus Vidimus no, it's just the English version of Davey and Goliath. English kids are sissies, so they talk to cats.
@@SovereignStatesman This was designed for young kids you fuckwits
Charlie turns into a real mess as these clips go on, but he made a good comeback in the end.
these weren't creepy these were retro classics
♥ .
If you really want creepy British PSAs watch Protect and Survive
Wasn't Kenny Everett the voice of the cat?
Is this where Frankie Boyle got his "would you like to see my puppies" bit from?
didnt the prodigy sample this ?
All that's missing is the "rouw rouw rouw rouw rouww ..... rouw rouw rouw rouw rouww...."
It's no wonder i never had any fish for dinner during the 70's cos that fucking cat got it all
dont go anywhere with men or ladies you dont know
but if you know them...go with them
especially if they are a priest
Charley needs excorsising!

named my cat after charlie!
goddammit Charlie
creepy but not as creepy as the sprit of dark and lonely water they would scare the hell out of you these but they got the message through our tiny little heads as kids.
I wonder if he ever found Charlie after he was taken..
Charlie is supposed to be the voice of reason yet he nearly drowns and burns himself with hot tea.
that boy grew up to be tony blair ....
stranger : hey boy you wanna see some WMD ?
charlie : squeanasididhaidiiadiad
boy: charlie says 'never go anywhere with strange US presidents you dont know '
So then he leaves the matches on the table still.

The animation is quite crooked.
Charlie's apparently nutz as hell, i'd put him down for good...
Twit you!
I cant find this... Scary. Srsly whats so scary, a cat murming, a kid understanding what the cat says, its cartoon everythings possible
I don't find it scary, either. People have to remember it was made in the 1970s. Of course it's not going to be perfect.
Maybe his head movements?
These were never realistic as if a cat would actually show interest in going out with its owner! It would rather go out and meet other cats or sleep!
I don't think there that creepy.
why do some people find this scary?
Charlie wasn't creepy.
what sort of person takes advice from a fucking cat!!
i do, he speaks more sense than the wife
Aunt Gayle?
Don't know why these are deemed creepy. They are totally fine for kids and provide important information in a cute and fun way
Oh boy - these are a blast from the past - I remember these!
Any fans of The Prodigy here?
Hellz yeah, lol.
+PostMesmeric OH YESSS!

I used to love these adverts. they should bring them back.
A cat and his boy, frozen in time, forever able to stay close to a grown up and get something he likes.
