Thank you!!! I was thinking about doing IT management and then get the cybersecurity masters but the masters has like 2 certs. Just gonna stick with the cybersecurity bachelors
Josh been at help desk for 4 months.. about time to use my brain more.. going into cyber ill keep you posted. You help me break into IT 4 months ago.. also i dont blame you for the shades my eyes hurt now too lol
Is there any IT degree that will get you a job where you’re not sitting in front of a screen for long periods? I’ve also been doing help desk and tired of it now
@@A.M.1. yeah I’m considering going towards IT Management or like network security I feel like those roles you get to move around in your day to day jobs
@@marcuspolk1197 you might want to try IT at a school or company that isnt tech related theyll have you running around doing hardware stuff.. management there is a decent amount of meetings and sitting.
Shoot, I don't even know how I'd go about doing this, but work-life-balance is good for me since I'm always doing stuff outside of work. Microsoft has been, by far, the best employer I've worked at, even as a contractor. So probably Microsoft, Google, NOT amazon, then I've heard good things about Starbucks and Lululemon :P
Love your channel! The question being answered directly applies to me. I am a Registered Nurse in California with a BS degree in Nursing. You mentioned certs and some projects are also a viable option. Could you please share about what kind of projects? Thank you. Love your channel
Hey BC! Thanks for watching. You're definitely in a good place already having a degree and having worked in healthcare (HIPAA is a large topic in Cyber). As far as projects, I might recommend checking out this video: Top 5 Cyber Security Projects: ruclips.net/video/P9wz0Sted_I/видео.html I'm going to release some more one of these days as well!
@@JoshMadakor Thank you so much Josh! I appreciate your reply! Also, do you have any suggestions for great resources to use when self studying for the various certs and projects. I am going down the self study route you had laid out in other videos trying to get my A+ and get an entry level IT job here in the Bay Area.
Hey PORK haha, thank you. CS degree gives the strongest technical foundation IMO. Cyber degree probably has more applied topics/skill. If I had to choose one, I'd definitely choose the CS degree because I don't like working corporate cyber very much. haha
Awesome Josh I had a question what certs should I be aiming to get to enter into it help desk. Also what experience can I find or create if I currently have none?
I'm 44 and I'm thinking of getting into Data Management and Analytics from WGU. Do you think it's worth it? Could you do a review video of this degree from WGU ?
I really have been enjoying your tutorials on C#. Can you tell me how to evade AV software on the most likely way? It’s just for ethical bg, in my country our internet activity is getting monitored 24/7 so don’t worry :)
I want your opinion. So, right now, I'm getting an associate's in Full Stack web development. I kind of have to complete it now since I'm here diff school than WGU. So, when I get this done, I want to get into CYBERSECURITY. Is coding even necessary to get into this career? Like, what kind of jobs can you get knowing code and having a degree in cyber...? Any tips in getting the bachelor done a bit faster vs 2 years, or it will take this long to complete with my IT background maybe less, lol I'm hoping. If you could answer, please. My main goal is to get into cybersecurity excited! THANK YOU..
Hey Josh huge fan of your channel I got a question and I know you have an answer after wgu(currently doing the accelerated IT to IT management degree) but after I was really interested in a master from another school in either a master in information systems from Boulder Colorado or master in information technology from SNHU I looked into the courses and they are the same as master of computer science and data science at least some of the classes and I wanted to ask you specifically since I remember you saying before you were a hiring manager so from a hiring managers point of view out of all four of these majors and the four being Computer science, data science, information technology, and information systems which is the most impressive on a resume and if you could give a brief quick description on the differences between these 4 fields thanks
Hey MORTALS haha, I seen you in the comments a lot. To ME, this is the order of impressiveness: 1) Computer Science, because lots of low-level/difficult computing concepts that lay a solid foundation for computing in general. If someone can obtain a CS degree, they can do a _lot_ of other things. 2) Data Science, because it provides a really solid use case for helping businesses find new ways to make money or optimize their current operations. Data is everything these days. 3) IT and IS are basically the same to me. General Information Technology/Computing. Having said all that, it's good to have a degree, but I will usually care more about projects, the appearance of passion, work history, and things like this (especially over a master's degree. That's just me though!!) Hope this helps!
I have been doing computer forensics on dead boxes and mobile devices for 15 years and would like to get into the cybersecurity field. Dead box forensics for crimes against children is way different than incident response. I am A+ and network+ certified and working on my security+ while taking a IBM course through Coursera. What role do you think would fit me best with the forensics background?
Hello! Im not sure if you have mentioned this before but do you recommend cybersecurity bootcamps for those switching careers, perhaps wanting to save some money also?
Josh, I need advice from a professional job hopper. I'm wanting to make the career transition in a couple of months, how do you do it? It seems stressful trying to hop from one to another when you have a family, rent, etc, that you don't want to get behind on. Thanks!
I also already have a Bachelor's degree, in business, and I am currently going for an Associates in Computer Technology/Cyber security. In your opinion is it better to go for certs and projects over a second degree? Right now tech school is free where I am. I'm still trying to pay off the first B.S. I'm very iffy about having to go into more debt for a 2nd B.S. Would I be better off getting the 2-year and doing certs, projects, and learning things myself online?
Hey Josh. My goals is to get into Data Science, but my route to doing it is admittedly odd. I have my heart set on getting a Computer Science degree at WGU first and then maybe getting a Masters in Data Analytics or the self-taught route.(or both for the statistics and machine learning and business?) What do you think? I love your work and I have been sharing it with my friends. You were so the deciding factor in me getting my CS degree here in 2023.

Hey I hope you’re able to get to my comment I just wanted to get your opinion on what IT degree can I do that will let me move around and not be sitting for long periods? I’ve done help desk for a while and now I want to do something else that will let me move around and not be in front of the screen so long? Hope you can help me
Hey Marcus. You might consider looking into Tech Sales which could lead into Sales Engineer. There's a lot of upside in terms of compensation and my image of it is it's more social than IT. You have to talk to people, but you don't need to be working on something in front of the computer for a long time like in support/software engineering. Coincidentally, the organization I'm partnering with has a really successful Tech Sales course you can check it out. I have a discount code for it too (JOSHMADAKOR50) - account.coursecareers.com/ref/18242/ Search RUclips for "Shane Hummus tech sales", he covers it quite a bit of interviews some of the students as well. It's just something to consider. If not tech sales, maybe something like project management, program management, or just management in general :P
I'm currently trying to get my Computer science degree. I just declared my major at the end of 2 years. I'm now a junior and just started my CS bachelors. I am thinking about getting a minor in Cyber Security as that is what my school offers. Can I still break into the cybersecurity field easily?
