      It’s always so crazy to me how many people just let me come on in and make myself at home. Like I am just here for the speakers or amp lol.
      That said, I am a younger guy in this game so it is kind of fun hearing the history of the pieces before buying.

    That Samsung does have a Pioneer, Kenwood vibe to it. When I was in the Navy in the 70s every thing I worked on except for a secure voice crypto device was tubes. Tubes did not appreciate the sudden shocks of the ship crashing against the waves. LOL

    I remember old tech high. I think Ken might have a few years on me, I just missed the tube era. My first education was at DMACC in 88-98 and it was "consumer electronics" which meant TV''s (well, ya tubes there) and mostly VCR's and Radios. When I found the pay so low for electronics techs, I went back to DMACC and this time for industrial robotics. Whew I needed a job, my friends were feeding me with leftovers, LOL!!
    I know I'm biased but I think old techs are the best techs.
    EDIT: Buy Ken a larger lazy susan so he doesn't have to use that too long bendy support wood. :)

    I'm a retired mechanical engineer who also took some EE courses in college. But my best memories of playing with electronics, were in 7th and 8th grade, where my science teacher was into electronics. It's where I learned to solder, use a multimeter, and learned a big lesson about what happens when you discharge a Leyden jar onto a sink spout. There may still be a lab table there with a little circular ring burnt into it, from me soldering the back side of a 9V battery terminal without realizing the front side was burning the lab table. Fun times, between working on electronics, and also using Bunsen burners to bend glass tubing for chemistry experiments. He's let us play music while working on electronics, and the current song I recall most vividly was Cracklin' Rosie by Neil Diamond playing as we built circuits. Google tells me that was 1970, which does correspond with 8th grade.

    Your content is so great! This just popped up and if anyone can answer my question perhaps it is "DAD" I have what at the time was considered the finest pre-amp made. A Sansui CA-3000 these are un -real. It just quit all of a sudden. Power good, vu meters work for input, and phono relays work. I cleaned boards saw no blown fuses, any ideas? Just no output. I am sure I am older than Dad and am downsizing and have 4 high end pre-amps trying to figure what to keep.

    The amp looks pretty decent. I say that with surprise, as Samsung and Goldstar (aka Lucky Goldstar, aka LG) were perceived as low-budget, medium-quality alternatives to the [more poplular] products of the day. Although I did have something (VCR?) from Samsung early on, they didn't seem to reach prominence here until flat-panel LCD monitors became a thing.

    THAT LOOKS A LOT LIKE A PIONEER ! Front back and insides. I've worked on some Radio Shack stuff that was without question, Pioneer. And it's wire wrapped too, don't like to work on those. Check the brd numbering. That's how IDed the Radio Shack units as Pioneer. Worked on a Radio Shack reel to reel that was really a Teac. I bet you have a hard time finding techs too.

  • @lornespry
    @lornespry 6 месяцев назад

    I'll bet that Samsung is a rebranded Pioneer - maybe an SA-7XX something. The milled knob and balance wheel combo look exactly like the ones on my SA-8900 or SA-8500. So it will have a three gang pot - and how many machines have that sort of part? The layout of the boards and switch types are typical of Pioneer. It should have nice phono section and sound pretty sweet.

    Very similar in looks to Kenwood KA-7100. 4 big knobs on the right hand side. The dark grey metal cover looks almost identical. The big knob in the center looks different; Kenwood just has one big knob instead of what looks like a coarse / fine concentric knob on this Samsung.
