I'm 47 now. My family started making the trip from Michigan in 82 to cedar point for the next 5 years every summer. Best memories. Rip mom.

There obviously weren't as many rides in the 80s as it is now, but for some reason, CP seemed more "magical" then.

It lost its luster after 2012

    • @MaximusX67

It was somehow more 'authentic' then and less corporate. They put a LOT of money into the park and have built some amazing rides. But it's gotten so big, so crowded, and so overwhelming today I think .....
And, of course, I was in Jr High and High School in the 80's and early 90's and I'm in my mid 40's now - probably also has something to do with it! lolol

@@MaximusX67 Cedar Point is still amazing. The biggest change is the loss of trees, and you can thank the ash borer and disease mitigation for that.

@@MaximusX67 i disagree with the more crowded part, I recall pretty much every Saturday waiting for most of the big rides for over an hour. Even mine ride would be 45 minutes to an hour wait, on a regular basis.

I want to sincerely thank you for posting this Cedar Point footage. I grew up going annually to the Point, and I worked there my first of three summers the year this was filmed. I wore that red & blue uniform! Have had many jobs since then, but that place has been my favorite place to work. I retain memories of the sounds, the smells, the tastes, the sights... I wish I could go back!

TRUE STORY: I was the first person (of the public) to ride Demon Drop when it first opened at Cedar Point.. The park was open at 9am, but it was raining that morning, and the staff were telling people that they "did not know when they would get all clear to ride", so little by little, people kept leaving the line... So I just kept moving up til I was first on. I got on my own car, and got to the top. There was a guy sitting at the top who said they were in "manual mode" (so each step happened with different switches). Then he said: "Okay, so you're gonna here this click..", and the second he said that - I FELL SCREAMING!! HAHA.. Fantastic. :) This is rare video of the Demon Drop experience - thanks for sharing.

What's funny is that on the Gemini, no one is high-fiving each other from across the trains and everyone is holding on the bars for dear-life!!! No one with arms up in the air? Anyway, this brings back memories, I was in high school in 1984 and spent many summers there in the 80's. Thanks for posting....

I was 10 when this video was taken and the older I get the more nostalgic I get for these times - no cell phones, no social media, not worrying about terrorism or COVID-19. But I digress. I guess everything just seems better looking back on it. Oh, and the earthquake, pirate ride, and avalanche run. Good times. Damn I'm old.

    • @MaximusX67

Same .... always been my favorite at Cedar Point!
Magnum XL is up there too - love the slow climb and cresting way above Lake Erie on that ride! Such a great view up there at 200ft! But Gemini was ALWAYS so fun, fast, and easy to get on it over and over again! Think we rode it something like 8 times in a row one trip there, just getting off the ride, getting right back in line, and getting right back into another train heading for the top!
I always loved the Corkscrew too (RIP), even though the sometimes long wait time was not worth the 45 second ride!
