Yes!! So glad you did RHCP! Honestly the most underrated band of all of the times!
unpopular opinion: Californiacation is Mid as f**k. not just from a mix standpoint but the song writting is not nearly as good as Stadium Arcadium or By the Way (but still great).
When it comes down to it, I feel like its at best A tier, i also would probably lump By the Way up there with stadium, maybe higher. IMO i think they are the most well thought out lyrically, and instrumentally the most nuanced. Certainly not the most technical RHCP has been, but the simplicity is total bliss here. I play drums (14 years this september) and i feel like this band has had the most profound influence on me as a musician and as a man pushing 30. When Im on high in my life, that feel good RHCP feel is the perfect companion, and same when i am low. I could die for you may be one of the best songs on that record, or maybe even dosed. Any time Anthony sings about drugs, you can basically swap it with women problems and it feels like the man is speaking directly to you. Also, i noticed thier early work really isnt well rated for you, and i respect that, but i think as ive gotten older I've come to appreciate it for what it is. id love to actually pick your brain some time on good deep cuts or favorite songs, lmk if you want my discord or something bro! seem like a chill guy with a pretty cool taste in music.
Thanks brüthr 🙏 I actually agree with ya on quite a few points. I actually go back and forth a lot on Calirfornication lol, but I’d agree it’s better suited for A tier. I respect their first albums a lot more after reading Anthony’s book, but still hard to get into imo 😂 unfortunately I don’t have a discord, but that’s dope you’re a drummer! Chad Smith has probably inspired me the most of any drummer. And as far as deep cuts, Instrumental #1 off the Scar Tissue B-side is dope AF. Same with Leverage of Space. Maybe I’ll have to do another video of their best deep cuts 👀
