Good to see your dad again. I have the last RT made. Followed it down the line in York and road it back to Milwaukee. 30 years working for the motor company, I I had your dad in several company classes along with your grandpa. Glad to see the revival of the RT over the last few years - best bike HD ever made, I have 275,000 + miles on mine and ride it every day. Thanks for the memories.
Wow! That's so rad. Thank you for the comment. Going to pin this one! You have the last RT ever made? Geez. That's cool. Went to classes with Jerry and Bob? how cool is that. I appreciate the comment
I did'nt go to class - I taught technical classes and developed the PHD videos for the Motor Company. Also did the new model tec for the launches and dealer shows.😁
You’re dad is so cool! I love the videos with him in them. He has such a level headed disposition and objective recall of the MoCo. It’s always interesting. And his anecdotes are always killer. Thanks!
Makes me happy to hear the stories of the "new" evos. Seems that history has repeated itself with the M8. Just goes to prove the brand loyalty is still there. Thanks for taking us down memory lane, Jerry, and glad you still can ride with a big ole smile on your face. It keeps us young, doesn't it? I remember the print advertising for "The Legendary FXR: Maybe this time nothing will get lost in the translation."
I thought the same thing as I was listening to Jerry talk about those times. History definitely repeats itself in the Harley world with people's initial perceptions of the new engines/motorcycles coming out. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching
Honestly Harley Davidson needs to stop with the boring paint jobs and start doing real paint jobs like the El Diablo and all of their classic bikes. Just my opinion.

I can’t say the low rider st is the most comfortable Harley I’ve ridden due to the high mid mounted pegs and somewhat strange riding position in relation to the bars but I’m 6ft 3. Stunning bike tho one of my favourite looking Harley bikes. Nicely done video Matt. Some good editing. Nice to see your dad reminiscing - i love listening to guys of his genre talking about bikes.
I appreciate this comment. Always good to hear people's honest opinions about the bikes. Yea, as a tall rider myself I agree with your points. Nothing a few mods can't fix though. I'll try to get Jerry in more videos in the future.
$30,000 and no air conditioning. Yes, nice paint job. With that price RDRS should be standard like other premium bike manufacturers. Harley pays too much in advertising, movie stars, vs more value in their bikes. I am all for expensive bikes but it must have the horsepower, electronics, suspension, etc of premium bikes. Many bikes offer carbon fiber parts or carbon wheels or electronic suspension at those price points.
Had a buddy who owned one back in the day, so I got to ride his. he put a side car on it and we road all over on it 😁 so I totally understand the new one 😉 and I get the Diablo! Good for you Harley Davidson 👏 👍 😀 keep this up...

As much as the bike looks great i believe they should have added a little more. The side skirts on the fxr that look like the road glide ones. Matt has a great RUclips channel. Exelent job! .... but I'll pass on this bike. How are you going to sell this to a group that have been taught if it's not a bagger it's a chick bike?
I like those comments from your father. But cost to cost. Values from the fxlrst and the El Diablo. For the sound system and the paint doesn t match with the price of the Bike. I mean when i m riding i m not looking the paint stripping, the shades... i m just riding. The nice paint job really really nice, can become a total nightmare if you pull off the bike. Extra money to repaint the bike... That's being said, nice vid, nice story and nice bike. Practicality with the audio system and nothing more except the paint... i ll go for a classic fxlrst with 1500€ plus extra cost for the labor instead of paying almors 7000€ more.
I hope that HD finds some success in the El Diablo! I’d love to see a new generation of FXR riders. I still miss my 87 FXLR 10th Anniversary Low Rider! Biggest regret of my life was selling my first big twin!
Great video and great stories! I like new ST's. Yea, those old BT Evos are great engines. I have '93 Heritage with well over 100 000 miles on a clock and it still pulls like animal. And engine is unopened. Just basic maintenance done to it. Even rear shocks are original.
I had a FXRD in 1986. Put 77000 miles on it within no issues, traded it in on a 91 fatboy. That FXRD was a great bike. Funny how people I ran into thought it was a Japanese bike,it was such a departure from my other Harley’s
T.u. Another amazing production! Your father is a true inspiration to the HD community and a pillar of same. Hopefully one day I will be able to visit you guys and shake both your hands!
With the real Dyna platform gone, which platform should they use? Looks wise, I could see using the touring platform but how would that work as far as performance?
Its great to see your dad in the videos, I fell in love with Harleys in 1978 when I saw the tan electroglide classic as a kid. I used to hang out at Laidlaw when I was t teenager riding an ironhead in the mid 80s. Love your channel and all the content, thanks Matt.
This bike was in my dealership here in the UK. Sold within a week. Hope I get to see one in person one day. The paint job does look very cool. How is the handling with the speakers in the front? I would have assumed the weight makes a difference. Btw, your father looks just like you when he was younger lol.
No, I think Matts Dad is better looking. I visited Guildford H-D here in the UK and I couldn’t believe they had 4 Diablos, naturally they were all sold.
My Dad had a blue 86 FXRD Grand Touring Edition. With a hot cam and a Mikuni carb it was one of the first wheelie riding Harleys in the area. That ugly half dresser sure embarrassed a lot of guys 😂
Does you dad still ride and if so, just out of curiosity what bike is he riding? I mentioned in another video that I turn 62 next month and buying me a new Harley after selling my Street Glide 17 years ago and have NOT rode since I sold the bike. I fell in love with the Low Rider ST but it still is a 727 lb bike so still trying to figure out if someone my age should be on a heavy bike. I live in Austin and want a bike that is suited to cruise around the city and also hit the Texas Hill Country. I am not a cross country type rider so definitely do not need a RG or SG. As always thanks for the great videos. I love this channel👍
Matt, your content just gets better and better. Your Dad is a legend, I can see where you get your passion, your articulate presence and your height from! What a classy gentleman and so wonderful to hear his stories from back in the day. Best regards all the way from Australia mate 👍
Developing a new HD engine is Top Secret??? Like Honda or Indian are going to copy them?? The Top secret Development of the V-Rod .. Looks to be a good engine put they put it in a Heavy poor handling chasis with crappy suspension and brakes.. I just purchased a 2008 Buell Ulysses, I pass all the Harleys in the S curves like they are sitting still .. with the 103 HP Thunderstroke engine is smokes other 1203 Sporsters..
In the early 1980's I passed a whole Motorycle Gang on Harleys with my 1979 Z-28 camaro which is far from stock smog motor performace.. They were pissed and tried to chase me.. Like you said 115 MPH compared to my 150 MPH top speed on my Camaro that is lowered with huge sway bars ect. I they disapeared in my rear view mirrors in seconds.. Unfortunatly I passed some slow cars in a small town .. It was 4th of July evneing after the fireworks had let out at South Haven on Lake MI .. bumper to bumper traffic but only in one direction leaving the Lake.. their was almost no oncomming traffic to deal with I was passing 10 cars at a time . Then I passed the biker gang too .
How can anyone get excited about an over priced bike that only 1,500 will be Produced? "A Fool and their Money will Soon Buy a Harley" Harley are known for their poor handling and poor suspension.. Is the FXR the model that is know for handling better than most HD's? Is this the Chasis that Eric Buel desinged back in the day ?
I like it, but it’s just a fancy paint homage to the FXRT with a stereo that you can buy and add to a regular ST. Not sure I consider it an Icon, unless the FLHT Icon just set the bar too high. I don’t agree that the value is there, not for that price premium. Think of what else you can get in the Touring line for that money! You can probably find the Electra Glide Icon for the same price.
Not trashing the bike, but it just isn't my style. The paint is really nice even though I don't like orange. Still not into the fairing. I still think Harley should have put a two into one exhaust with the same size saddlebags. I know a lot of people love this bike and it just shows that different people have different tastes. I would choose a LowRider S over any ST model. Love your channel Matt and always look forward to seeing the next video.
Why are they all of as sudden comparing this model to the FXRT when it’s always been the Road Glide that was considered evolved from it? Just a little more Harley hype. I loved listening to your dad about his experiences.

My Dad had a blue 86 FXRD Grand Touring Edition. With a hot cam and a Mikuni carb it was one of the first wheelie riding Harleys in the area. That ugly half dresser sure embarrassed a lot of guys 😂
Haha very nice. 👍🏼
I love the videos with your dad! Such cool guy with great stories. I had to laugh at him riding El Diablo, he makes it look like a mini bike!
haha, yea he dwarfs most bikes
The difference with paying for custom paint is, it’s inspired by you and there’s not 1,500 of them, there’s only one.
Like Father like Son
Both you and the bike a spitting image respectively to its roots...
Oh yeah try not to ride my bike too much

Matt, your content just gets better and better. Your Dad is a legend, I can see where you get your passion, your articulate presence and your height from! What a classy gentleman and so wonderful to hear his stories from back in the day. Best regards all the way from Australia mate 👍
I appreciate the comment and you watching. Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree I guess. Haha. Thanks.
It's still not a custom bike because it's on an assembly line. And nobody wants a bike that's painted like a custom van.
Great video and BEAUTIFUL bike

How can anyone get excited about an over priced bike that only 1,500 will be Produced?
"A Fool and their Money will Soon Buy a Harley"
Harley are known for their poor handling and poor suspension..
My dad, and two of my uncles rode the FXRT throughout the 80s and the 90s. Dad sold his back in 98.
Speaking of Copy Cats that FRT Fairing looks like they Copied Windjammer..
I wonder what the 666/1500 will cost. I wish they didnt go with the dark bronze wheels, black or red would have been better IMO.
Your dad's awesome I can enjoyed telling his story I'm actually going to look at 1 today used going to pull the trigger go back to riding😊
A beautiful bike indeed, but difficult to obtain. I’d prefer to have you guys build me a Coast Glide.
Matt how tall is Jerry? he makes that bike look like a toy!
