Kino Lorber's listened to us all wanting a Blu-ray set of Columbo here in the states; we're getting sets of both the original 70's show and the 1989-2003 revival series
Still haven't gotten Mrs. Columbo yet [aside from a French DVD set of the whole series, except with French text over the original English titles; and using old master tapes as the source material rather than film [aside from maybe the pilot episode, Word Games]]
My favorite episode of Columbo was the murder of the rock star. I first watched it with my dad when I was a kid. And forgot about it. Well 20 years go by, and one lonely Sunday night I found myself randomly watching Columbo, a show I had never seen before, on MeTV. I suddenly remembered the way Colombo solved the murder. And sure enough it was that very episode I had watched with my dad decades ago. What were the odds? And ever since then, I've been hooked on Columbo.
do your discs have any playback problems? I've been wanting to pick this up during black friday for several years but people keep on saying that they stop working
They were likely referring to the original release of the season sets which were double sided discs. The sets Universal made with those were notorious for having playback problems. But those problems don't exist with the new single sided versions. Get the set and enjoy!
Do you know anything about the 2 new boxed sets (seasons 1-4 one set, and seasons 5-7 with all 24 movies in the other set) that released June 12, 2018? As far as I can tell it's the same set you did this video on but broken into 2 sets and sold separately. I'm trying to decide which one to buy but they both seem to be the same quality, format etc. Let me know your thoughts, thanks.
Yep, it's just a repackage of the exact same discs as this set. Basically go for whichever one is the better deal! Though I do see this set going for under 60 bucks quite often lately.
@@zaranyzerak thanks! The 2012 edition is slightly cheaper on amazon. Kind of weird they would repackage it but not change anything. I wasnt sure if they were in higher quality or something like that. Do you know if your 2012 set would have any problem ripping them to a computer? I want to buy the set but watch them on phone/tablet.
Yep, I rip them to the computer to watch while I'm working on stuff, so can confirm they have no problem there. And repackages like that are actually quite common, especially for TV show sets.
Then you must have re-releases of some of them because the original releases of the early season up to Season 4 were most definitely flipper discs, I used to own them.
@@zaranyzerak No, I have the original 'Region 1' releases. Season 1 is from 2004. Seasons 2 and 3 are from 2005, the rest are 2006. Seasons 1 and 2 are all single-sided. Season 1 has five discs, Season 2 has four discs, and Season 3 has 2 discs ('flipper', two-sided). I bought them all new in stores.
It's never not been available? Amazon links in the description for both this (the 2012 release) and the 2018 re-release. Both are still widely available and quite affordable.
So I was waiting for your latest video to ask you something, so I recently was browsing amazon and found out that avatar: the last Airbender is coming to Blu-ray, but it was made in 4:3 which I thought Blu-ray for that was impossible (without cropping) same thing for the original first season of Pokémon. I just don’t want to get a crap product and spend $50-$60 getting it. So any information about 4:3 blu-ray’s would be much appreciated
It would just be "pillarboxed." Black bars on the left and right, with the full uncropped image in the center. Just like how back in the days of 4x3 TVs there would be black bars on the top and bottom so we could have the full uncropped widescreen image. Exactly the same thing, just the reverse. There have been many Blu-ray releases of older shows done this way, and they look great. Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: The Next Generation, The Prisoner, Knight Rider, Miami Vice, Rockford Files, Quantum Leap, Battlestar Galactica (which was made available both in cropped 16:9 AND uncropped 4:3), the list goes on and on. So don't worry, Avatar will be presented exactly how it should be.
Ah, you're quite right! Looks like he did a few things before Columbo. So all these years I have believed a lie! (Or rather probably should have taken a quick peek at wikipedia before doing the video to confirm that little tidbit) D'oh!
You could import the set if you have a region free player I suppose, but why bother when there are some very nice U.K. sets already available? Including the entire series on Blu-ray from Japan (with English audio of course), which we have yet to get over here but can get as an import.
They do, it's the first thing on the first disc of the Season 1 set. There is nothing missing, every single episode and movie they ever made is in this set.
If people Like Columbo, you should check out the one season long Ellery Queen, also from Levinson & Link, with Jim Hutton and David Wayne. Amazing mysteries of the same caliber of this.
Does the Columbo tv series box set include the original NBC Sunday night movie of the week opening and closing ending theme song? If somebody could email me back regarding this matter, that would be great!! Thanks! Ron
Thank you for showing The Columbo Complate Series dvd Boxset.
I love this set. Years ago, they would play a different Columbo movie every Sunday morning in my area. It became traditional viewing.

I have the cigar box complete series set. Bought it on Black Friday a couple of years ago, for 24 pounds. Best deal I ever got there.
Da-amn, that's an amazing deal!

As I recall at the cinema in the UK the Columbo pilot episode was shown in a double feature with Duel.
Oh wow, that would have been a fantastic double feature.
This Columbo, he pretends to be stupid, but he's really smart as a tack.
I always enjoy these closer look videos of the shows I'm familiar with
Best Columbo episode of all time....the one with Leonard Nimoy!
Really Tired 64 stitch in crime. It’s one of my favorites as well
THANK you for the review. We bought the set based upon your review.
I'm in the process of re-watching every episode from Season 1 to the very end
They released Season 1 and 2 of Columbo on Blu Ray.
Only in Region B.
Awesome 👍💿
Ahhhh, just one more thing.....
I Love the Show as well
& I Dont Have it
But I Would
I prefer the look of my region 2 set as the dvds are in faux cigar box
do your discs have any playback problems? I've been wanting to pick this up during black friday for several years but people keep on saying that they stop working
Stiffkittens I've owned the set for two years and I have had no problems so far

After hearing you mention that there were double sided discs, that thought did occur to me.
Personal favorite episodes, Short Fuse and An Exercise in Fatality.
Коломбо рулит !!! Все сезоны просмотрел ))
I have Miami Vice in those double sided dual layer discs and no issues but it is somewhat difficult to hold and put in the blu ray or dvd player.
Wow 1968. When I was born...what month it came out?
Looks like it originally aired on February 20, 1968.
Is Blu-ray more content or same content

Magnum PI got the same re-release but the older set from 2013 is cheaper on Amazon just like the Columbo set
I have all of the original seasons by Universal, and the only season containing the 'flipper' two-sided discs was Season Three.
Then you must have re-releases of some of them because the original releases of the early season up to Season 4 were most definitely flipper discs, I used to own them.

Thanks for the information about the Columbo series DVD. Anyway, how can I purchase that DVD in South Korea here?
I guess you'd need to import it. Maybe see if amazon will ship out your way?
oh nice Sean great minds think alike love this review i knew we were simpatico
Not a lot of episodes on those discs. How many minutes are the episodes?
The episodes are 70-95 minutes each, they were all done as TV movies.
@@zaranyzerak I see. Thanks for telling me.
Does it include complete series in original unedited release
Yes, It's every episode and post-series movie in their original unedited form as originally broadcast.
There are two versions of this set on amazon. The prices vary wildly, but the cheaper of the two seems to be the 2018 set. Any feedback on this?
Probably just the repackaging of it.
I hope this gets re-released or reprinted in a couple of years so that way I can stay in circulation I hope

I liked the episode where Johnny Cash was on

I always thought Spielberg’s first TV work was Night Gallery, unless you are talking specifically about his first involvement in a major TV show.
Ah, you're quite right! Looks like he did a few things before Columbo. So all these years I have believed a lie! (Or rather probably should have taken a quick peek at wikipedia before doing the video to confirm that little tidbit) D'oh!
Can i buy this in uk???????

Spielberg directed the first season’s pilot murder by the book. I believe that was the only columbo episode he directed.
Yep, that is correct.
Love your videos btw. Keep them coming
Why don't they include the 1968 movie
They do, it's the first thing on the first disc of the Season 1 set. There is nothing missing, every single episode and movie they ever made is in this set.
Yeah, FUCKIN' correct.

love Ellery , but columbo is in a different level IMO

Not a Mrs. Colombo fan at all.
