Shane would be the figurehead while Vince would act as a outside consultant of some sorts with no official duties with the company. To be honest, we really don't know what Vince's true relationship with WWE is at the moment, so buying AEW could also be a way to have a companion promotion for WWE. We could end up seeing cross promotion events where we see AEW talent on WWE to create dream matchups and new storylines. Then again, none of it may even happen and AEW ends up getting a TV deal.

Vince didn’t have billions to play with back when he bought all of those companies/territories. He bought up WCW when they had nowhere left to go. AEW does in fact have their backs against the wall at the moment due to the tv deal. WBD just announced they lost billions in the last quarter, so I wouldn’t be shocked if they either don’t renew AEW, or offer an insane lowball offer. While I don’t think AEW will be sold, I also would not be shocked if it does.

I love people that say there’s no way this could happen. I’m sure all of the old territory promotions and wrestlers said the same thing when Vince took over the WWWF. Then he poached all of their best guys and shut the majority of them down in the process. Or how about saying there’s no way Vince McMahon could buy WCW especially during the years of 1996-1998 when WCW was on top? 3 short years later, bought them out. CAN Vince buy AEW? Absolutely. WILL he? That’s the question. Considering all of their abysmal merchandising and other non-profitable ventures (toys to video games) and the fact that their ratings continue to slump, plateau, slump, plateau doesn’t really paint a hopeful future for the company. I’m not a WWE guy at all. On the contrary, I was pulling hard for AEW for the first 2 years. That first year was amazing minus the numerous flubs, botches, miscues and a women’s division who’s best performer was a dude. The second year was an eye opening experience. It became clear that this wasn’t a wrestling show. It was a stunt show spectacular where the guy getting beat up spends 10-30 seconds getting into position for the opponent to execute a high risk flippy do off the top rope, a ladder, off a cage, off the balcony. The drama fizzled out. Bringing in more WWE names was fun but most of them showed up, got paid, and did little to nothing. MJF is their one true redeeming factor but it’s just not enough for the casual TV viewer and I’m sorry to say it hardcore fans, but without those ratings, it’s only a matter of time.

I don't think it happens but let's play Devil's Advocate. Vince doesn't want to give any of his inheritance to Stephanie or Paul so he gives it to Shane in advance through some kind of trust where Shane can't access it unless he performs certain tasks for Vince because you know Vince is a control freak. Maybe they purchase ROH alone and try to build it up with a working relationship with AEW, or they spend a billion dollars which is only half of Vince's money and they get 49% stake in all of AEW. Perhaps booking control of collision and rampage, AEW maintains all other rights and they share the rights to merchandising. TK is So nice he may end up giving up too much more than he needs to. What this does is it gets Vincent's people in the door. This creates political rivalries that Vince drives on. He loves confrontation. We all know that AEWs merch shop/setup sucks. There are shortages of product and they don't even sell well at the stadiums. The designs suck, and it has been an issue since the beginning because they hired one of the EVPs wives who only did this on the Indies and had no experience. Now you get a professional from Vince McMahon who is putting out killer product after killer product and it's out selling the incumbents products. You are a new talent and you want a new shirt done. Where do you go? Now you start going to Vince's people instead of the home team. Vince starts making people more money and this of course means Shane gets all the credit for this. Shane starts becoming and much more powerful figure because he is pulling in more money. The shows that the McMahons run start doing more business and as a result those people begin making more money. People were going to be loyal to their paycheck. And as time comes people are going to choose Shane McMahon over Tony Khan because he's going to keep his walker room straight and not allow all of that BS that Tony does. As the ratings continue to slide and Tony loses power in his own company he will be forced to sell his half of the stake or the McMahons will simply split the company in two with their half which is the more profitable half and leave Tony Khan brutally butchered with the worthless half. Thats the McMahon way. Then we will get the war between two legitimate players of the game and perhaps wrestling will be as hot as it was in the '90s and the '80s again.

I think Russo is probably onto something but I don’t know that I can see Tony Khan allowing Vince to buy AEW. This is Tony’s baby so I can’t imagine he would let a former owner swoop in and buy his company. What would be hilarious is seeing Vince as a GM or something of AEW that would be comical.
Nobody rrealizes that anytime a large corporation is sold, the buyer insists on a non-compete clause in the sale. TKO would have been idiots not to do that. Vince is prohibited from doing that.
Vince and Shane will split the roster, cut at least a third of the men, and hire Lashley, Lesnar and Jinder. I would guess they might push Wardlow as the original franchise. Commentary would be changed. Collision would move to Monday when Raw moves to Netflix. The shows might even be renamed. They would cut several of the championships. A writing team would be assembled, and the shows would focus on story telling, creating drama, and promoting the PPVs.

We could end up seeing cross promotion events where we see AEW talent on WWE to create dream matchups and new storylines. Then again, none of it may even happen and AEW ends up getting a TV deal.

Vince didn’t have billions to play with back when he bought all of those companies/territories. He bought up WCW when they had nowhere left to go. AEW does in fact have their backs against the wall at the moment due to the tv deal. WBD just announced they lost billions in the last quarter, so I wouldn’t be shocked if they either don’t renew AEW, or offer an insane lowball offer. While I don’t think AEW will be sold, I also would not be shocked if it does.

I love people that say there’s no way this could happen. I’m sure all of the old territory promotions and wrestlers said the same thing when Vince took over the WWWF. Then he poached all of their best guys and shut the majority of them down in the process. Or how about saying there’s no way Vince McMahon could buy WCW especially during the years of 1996-1998 when WCW was on top? 3 short years later, bought them out.

Considering all of their abysmal merchandising and other non-profitable ventures (toys to video games) and the fact that their ratings continue to slump, plateau, slump, plateau doesn’t really paint a hopeful future for the company. I’m not a WWE guy at all. On the contrary, I was pulling hard for AEW for the first 2 years. That first year was amazing minus the numerous flubs, botches, miscues and a women’s division who’s best performer was a dude. The second year was an eye opening experience. It became clear that this wasn’t a wrestling show. It was a stunt show spectacular where the guy getting beat up spends 10-30 seconds getting into position for the opponent to execute a high risk flippy do off the top rope, a ladder, off a cage, off the balcony. The drama fizzled out. Bringing in more WWE names was fun but most of them showed up, got paid, and did little to nothing. MJF is their one true redeeming factor but it’s just not enough for the casual TV viewer and I’m sorry to say it hardcore fans, but without those ratings, it’s only a matter of time.

Vince doesn't want to give any of his inheritance to Stephanie or Paul so he gives it to Shane in advance through some kind of trust where Shane can't access it unless he performs certain tasks for Vince because you know Vince is a control freak.
Maybe they purchase ROH alone and try to build it up with a working relationship with AEW, or they spend a billion dollars which is only half of Vince's money and they get 49% stake in all of AEW. Perhaps booking control of collision and rampage, AEW maintains all other rights and they share the rights to merchandising. TK is So nice he may end up giving up too much more than he needs to.
What this does is it gets Vincent's people in the door. This creates political rivalries that Vince drives on. He loves confrontation. We all know that AEWs merch shop/setup sucks. There are shortages of product and they don't even sell well at the stadiums. The designs suck, and it has been an issue since the beginning because they hired one of the EVPs wives who only did this on the Indies and had no experience. Now you get a professional from Vince McMahon who is putting out killer product after killer product and it's out selling the incumbents products. You are a new talent and you want a new shirt done. Where do you go? Now you start going to Vince's people instead of the home team. Vince starts making people more money and this of course means Shane gets all the credit for this. Shane starts becoming and much more powerful figure because he is pulling in more money.
The shows that the McMahons run start doing more business and as a result those people begin making more money. People were going to be loyal to their paycheck. And as time comes people are going to choose Shane McMahon over Tony Khan because he's going to keep his walker room straight and not allow all of that BS that Tony does.
As the ratings continue to slide and Tony loses power in his own company he will be forced to sell his half of the stake or the McMahons will simply split the company in two with their half which is the more profitable half and leave Tony Khan brutally butchered with the worthless half.
Thats the McMahon way. Then we will get the war between two legitimate players of the game and perhaps wrestling will be as hot as it was in the '90s and the '80s again.

I hope Vince and Shane buy AEW and actually make it watchable. And I think they absolutely could. Tony doesn't know what he's doing. He's gotta go. He's not a boss, he's a buddy with the talent and that's his downfall. I would definitely tune into Vince and Shane booking AEW.
If McMahon does buy AEW, maybe it isn't to hurt WWE but to help them. Look at WCW and ECW. He bought them out and retired both of them. Vince could have easily called Smackdown WCW: Smackdown and NXT ECW:NXT.
I think Russo is probably onto something but I don’t know that I can see Tony Khan allowing Vince to buy AEW. This is Tony’s baby so I can’t imagine he would let a former owner swoop in and buy his company. What would be hilarious is seeing Vince as a GM or something of AEW that would be comical.
Nobody rrealizes that anytime a large corporation is sold, the buyer insists on a non-compete clause in the sale. TKO would have been idiots not to do that. Vince is prohibited from doing that.
Vince and Shane will split the roster, cut at least a third of the men, and hire Lashley, Lesnar and Jinder.

Commentary would be changed. Collision would move to Monday when Raw moves to Netflix. The shows might even be renamed. They would cut several of the championships. A writing team would be assembled, and the shows would focus on story telling, creating drama, and promoting the PPVs.

I agree with Russo on some things, but this isn't happening and is a stupid take. 1. Tony Khan isn't selling. 2. Vince doesn't want to buy something that's a horrible investment. 3. Vince would rather bankroll his own new company and hire his own folks to run it.
