Show Girls is a misunderstood masterpiece and Berkley was not the problem at all and didn't deserve the backlash and should have had more opportunities as an actress because she can act and was fine in the film
No she actually overacted waaaay too much in it. Example: when Molly is asking Nomi where she's from in the beginning of the film. Elizabeth's reactions to the questions were waay over the top lol. And why did she throw up crossing the street?! Lol
@@nicolemonrueblame the director. It’s his job to get the performances that he wants. She acted the way she was told to act. So if you feel that way, fine, but not her fault.
There is a reason why a lot of actresses passed at the time. They all knew it was a Hail Mary, at best. Berkley was very unknown at the time, and she was not that popular on Saved by the Bell anyways, so she took her shot. It failed, but at least she tried.
@@user-zv5jd6yg7z Charlize Theron auditioned for the role but didnt get it and considering she was unknown at the time she would have done it 100%. She was almost in place of Elizabeth. When she came to L.A Charlize had a reputation as an easy girl and was known to go around the clubs and bars hunting for directors or famous people and throw herself at them basically she would do anything for a role in the movie. This is known in the bizz. She dodged a career bullet by not getting that part because with this movie she would have been reduced to a softcore B movie actress for the rest of her career.
Most viewers didn't notice what Paul Verhoeven was actually doing in Robocop, Starship Troopers, etc. but still enjoyed the movies just for the action. Those same people saw Showgirls, completely misunderstood the film, and HATED it.
Thr movie was ahead of its time because if it came out today it would be a box office hit. Hiw many stripper to star movies have their been now? This is actually a great and fun film.
It killed her career because of misogyny. A female protagonist, female centric story, female sexuality. All of those unheard of in 1995. I’m passionate about this movie.
She was perfect in it. What people don't get is that all of Paul Verhooven films are satire. They are send ups of tropes. "Starship Troopers" is making fun of war films. Not celebrating them.
It wasn’t a great film but people held it up against Basic Instinct which was wildly unfair. BI was a game changer. I think pretty much everyone at this point understands Berkeley took way too much heat for this. And now these types of films go relatively unnoticed when they bomb. Sucks she had to spend so much time justifying and qualifying.
Movie was amazing, then and now. She did amazing, she owned Nomi and was believable every scene. We all know dramatic people similar to Nomi. It’s pure sexism that drives the hatred of this movie.
I don’t care what anyone says, I love her and I love that movie. Was some parts of it kind of corny? Sure. But that’s part of what made it fun. A lot of my most favorite movies were considered “flops”. Also she looked absolutely gorgeous in that movie. One of my favorites still today.
The whole allure and gimmick of this movie's casting was that Elizabeth Berkley had been known as the smart girl on "Saved by the Bell, dressing in her jeans and vests and relatively demurely compared to her cheerleader friends, and here she was as a completely naked stripper. While the people wise about films would have been intrigued about the latest from Verhoeven and Eszterhas, most people of the younger generation would not have cared otherwise.
It is a good movie the problem was the time of the release, Just Imagine if 50 shades of Grey have been released in 1995 instead of Show Girls... Would Dakota Johnson be criticized the same way years later?
And here we are almost 30 years later and we are STILL talking about that movie.
Talking about how unbelievably hot and beautiful she was in that movie
And Howard still thinks he's a shallow person 😂
It’s the most fun movie of the 90’s

i loved it! elizabeth naked. all dreams came true lol. it had to be a jealousy issue from the critics.
Elizabeth looked incredible in that movie. A goddess.
She just was incredible....
Absolutely ❤
Showgirls is great and Elizabeth Berkley was awesome in it. She didn’t deserve to have her career hurt that way.

This movie had a ton of hype because of how controversial it was. It was also bizarre how this wrecked her career.

I grew up watching saved by the bell and my jaw dropped when i saw Jesse in the movie😅. I enjoyed watching the movie a bunch of times tho
I love that movie.
I love the movie. It’s a movie about sex workers, not priests or kindergarten teachers. Everything in the film was within context.
It portrayed the grungy lifestyle of Vegas showgirls
The movie that killed her career before it really even got going. It still haunts her all these years later!
What is Stern talking about? SHOWGIRLS IS A MASTERPIECE

She was amazing. Her character was suppose to act unhinged and over the top.
She was absolutory gorgeous.
Would love the entire episode. Love the camaraderie look she gives back to Robin for mentioning name recognition.

I loved Showgirls. Fabulous movie. Have seen it several times.
It's a fun movie and now everyone knows about it. It's a lot of fun to watch.
It must’ve been so hard for her seeing her career get squashed just as she was starting in movies. It’s a tough business to be at the best of times.
Good. Both her and Kelly thought they were gonna be dome a list tv/movie stars. They were dead wrong
She is stunning with such a great voice. Shocking that she didn’t go further. It’s probably because she refused to sell her soul.
Showgirls is pure cinema
Joke was on them, the movie actually SLAPS.
Nothing was wrong with the movie at all. Elizabeth was and acted very well. It is/was a classic 90's movie. I even love the ending
It's from 95

Went to see "Showgirls" on opening night for one reason and one reason only. I was NOT disappointed. Nothing wrong with that movie at all.
What was your reason?
Was it Kyle MacLachlan? 😏
Showgirls was a very pleasing visual movie😊
Pulp Fiction and Show girls are the two movies I can quote word for word❤
She's still just as beautiful today as she was then.
I will forever love SHOWGIRLS!!!
i love how all of the actors and people involved with the movie acknowledge its not good but it still has its diehard defenders. pretty wild stuff.
Showgirls is a classic she's a great actress. She played her part well and did not deserve what they put her through.
She was so NOT the "hot one" on the TV show...but eventually became FINE A.F. with Showgirls!
Jesse was way hotter than Kelly. I disagree!
Yet… IDC it’s my fave movie (47) and I saw the spoof on the “ new come back show”

I just looked up showgirls because i want to name my cst after her character. She was awesome and the movie was great.
Showgirls is phenomenal. It's trashy and that was the point.
I admire her for taking that risk after doing Saved by the Bell for so long. Its not her fault the movie was atrocious
I wish she had defended it more. I thought and still feel it is great
