Yay! My mom LOVES Irish Terriers..and she's still around to watch your videos thank goodness!! She's looking forward to your full length videos on these guys, the Airedale AND if we're really lucky, the Kerry blue. Thank you for these!!!
I had a male IT named Argo for 12 years. He was brilliant with children, friendly and very energetic. He passe daway this summer, but he was undoubtedly the ultimate family dog and a loyal companion for all of 12 years.
Great video, we adore our IT, she's definitely a handful and way more difficult than something like a Border Terrirer (we have one of those too) but we've also fallen in love with the breed.
Have owned two...both purebreds. They both were incredible dogs but my last one was WAY over the top. Extremely smart, gorgeous, easy to train, wonderful around children, very loving of family members, and ultra protective of family...great watchdog. The last one enjoyed playing with other dogs and other animals but the first was more confrontational to other dogs (more common for the breed). They were both females....we decided to not show both and kept as companion dogs although the second had parents that won at top shows in US. The last passed away at 13 years 3 months and never had health issues or slowed down until a week before she passed (kidney failure). Since they require hand stripping to maintain the best coat, they are a bit higher maintenance than many dogs and not all groomers know how to do hand stripping. Now looking for another.....the family really misses our Dirge Madra Molly.
Don Kinzett hey there could you please tell me anything more about the Irish terrier? I have kept Lakeland terriers and patterdales and English bull terrier even but I have only ever met one Irish terrier! I am now looking for a new dog and I have waited for a long time! Can you please tell me what they are like and how they behave!
Awesome video! Thank you for showcasing our breed 😁 ...as a whole, the breed is great with kids of all ages, has no known genetic health disorders, hypoallergenic/doesn't shed, quick minded and smart. Only concern is that they're not really the type of breed you can take to a dog park due to being dog aggressive. Breeders usually advise against it. Wonderful breed as a whole tho... Thank you again Zeke!
I think it really depends on how well you socialize the pup from a young age. I take ours to a nearby dog park on a daily basis and she does really well. She's not overly aggressive and romps and plays well with all the other dogs. She usually hangs with the bigger ones thinking she's much larger than she is. Ours will be 2 next month and has brought so much joy to our lives...and some "terror" mixed in. HA!
we have a 5 month old IT male and we take him to the dog park for socialization- ive never seen aggressive dogs there so it's a good place for him to build on his social skills, he loves running and playing with the other pups. he started out very timid around dogs, especially larger ones but is getting much better at being social. he's even nice to our cat. i wouldnt say this breed cant go to dog parks, i just think its very important to help them build social skills as a pup so they are able to and learn to get along with other dogs as adults
All terriers are quite happy to get weighed in... that's what the breed does. They were bred for aggression and assertiveness, and also the ability to think independently when required.
Yep,Kerry blue just never give up!When i was younger a Staffie attacked a KBT,i thought poor dog.Well the KBT had to be pulled off the Staf,it had locked on and took ages before it would let go.
Kerries are extremely violent and aggressive when pushed, and will not give up or back down, even against multiple dogs. They will fight to the death, and not back down. Very proud dog breed, every clever and intelligent, but not for inexperienced dog owners.
I have an Irish terrier cross with something lol (we got him from the RSPCA and they told us has crossed with a staffie...) anyway I love my Irish terrier, he's beautiful. Totally recommend people getting one.
I had one they are not for everyone flatout!,mine hated big dogs and would challenge them at any given chance.Shamus jumped on a cane corso full charge it was a sight to see .You left out lots of most important things about breed
My friends have 2nd welsh terrier. Thanks to those little devils, I'm in love with terriers. The Irish are beautiful, and if they're more calm than the welsh, I l'm gonna make up my mind and will take one.
How does this breed compare to west white highland terrier? Had one for 18 years, was loyal and loving but also very aggressive at times towards other dogs.
Is it possible to somehow emphasize also on small breeds. I live in an apartment in a big city. A small watch dog that acts like a "live & smart" home alarm is what many people like me need. Thank you.
Terriers are spunkie and sweet but I'm not big on them they need so much training ,but if they are show dogs there not as bad even then these dogs where bred to kill so they very aggressive if not properly trained. (not to be a downer)
For God so loved the world that he gave his ONLY begotten son to die for our sins whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life!
Yes, you're all a bunch that were let out of some barn by my lineage, that's all of you, for ratting out on your Osmanli Empire Founder, Owner, & Emperror, due to your wive's issues with the local goat Rashid in Naعj, while begging by my garbage for food...

We had one when I was a kid. Real bastard of a dog but also a fun, smart, active companion. Not a beginner's dog, and can be feisty and unpredictable.
Reminds me of Conor Mcgregor lol. Irish, Red hair, feisty, bold/confident, up for a fight lmao
I was just thinking that!
Yes its so

One of my all-time favourite breeds! I nearly got one, but I have a (Standard) Manchester Terrier (which I love).
Woohoo!

@@jamiegrieve5875 if you can handle a patterdale you are definitely capable of an Irish terrier
@@jamiegrieve5875 Mine was very large dog aggressive, I got him from a breeder in Missouri.

Irish Terriers are great with their children.

Agree 100%!! Socialization is key to any breed for the best chances of a well-adjusted dog later.
Had no idea about their dog aggression problems but thank you for educating us on that, Zeke.
A trait in a lot of terriers

I never heard. But it's great.
Getting one in 12 days! :)
The Kerry Blue would be a interesting one. In all the terriers this one is the most similar to the Pitbull.
