I was unfamiliar with Sierra Ferrell but happened to hear her tune Why'd Ya Do It on an independent radio station just a few days ago and was really impressed. Then this gem comes up in my RUclips feed. I'll certainly be on the lookout for her now that I know.
Edit to add: after only scratching the surface, I've heard such a great range of styles from her; a little Dolly Parton, a little Amy Winehouse, a little Madeleine Peyroux, a little Peggy Lee, and probably more...
@@mikel5582 youtube has an enormous amount of her live performances and produced videos...as you have found out. But seeing her live is the best. It has been fun watching her star, predictably, rise these past two years.

@@mikel5582 Just curious...what radio station did you hear her on? I'm always looking for great, roots-oriented radio stations that play music the commercial stations won't touch... My go-to stations right now are WMOT out of Nashville, and WNCW out of Asheville.... Both of which play her songs (along with other current greats like Molly Tuttle, Sierra Hull, Sarah Jarosz, Billy Strings etc)...
I'd add Janis Joplin to your list... If you ever listen to her interviews, she sounds just like her... Also, Janis started out in a Bluegrass band....there are a few YT vids of her real early stuff, before Big Brother.... Kinda wish she woulda stuck with bluegrass.

There is a reason I"m driving two hours and paying for a airbnb to see her perform. She is amazing. This is coming from a guy that learned to play guitar listening to Sabbath on vinyl in the nineties. She is crazy talented.

Took the whole family just to show them what it can truly sound like.
The range on Sierra's voice is incredible. In the last minute of the song, her voice goes from Country to Classical and then the last note shows she could be a Pop star too. There is literally nothing she can't do. I don't think there has ever been an artist like that

It's like she's lived a hundred thousand lifetimes to break into this freedom of expression in this one. I think that's why she brings tears to people watching and listening. She is pure in her expression of creativity.

Such good music. This chick is a super talent, just discovered her a few months ago. I'm becoming a huge fan of hers. In this era of fake, BS "country" music, it's so wonderful to see a current artist embracing real country / bluegrass/ mountain music. The real deal here. I was at 12 of her concerts , this is her best country super star look ever and she’s singing my favorite song that I never got to hear in person.
Wow, this girl has something very, very, special. It's that undefinable quality that all the "greats" seem to have. Hard to quantify but you can see it nevertheless.
