I am trying to learn this song in the cajon (a type of drum) ans this drum-only track is really helping me to analyse the song thanks for making this !
It's really funny how people in the comments don't understand the bleed. A lot of bands will record live takes from the band performing. It's how they capture their live sound. It just goes to show how too many people focus on isolation rather than dynamics and feel of the performance. A little bleed doesn't hurt anything. You don't have to sterilize the recording.(In loud rock)
It's what's commonly referenced to as bleed. Sometimes when recording drums in certain studios you can't completely isolate the instrument perfectly because of how the place was design or the quality of sound isolation.
Can anyone explain what's going on in the verse? The interplay between the snare and bass is really throwing me off and I can't figure out why. I'm not sure what it is, but it's as though Dave's playing with groove whilst not playing with groove.
He's playing a simple backbeat drum pattern with Eighth notes on hi-hat, Eighth notes with bass drum only on 1 and 3, snare 2 and 4. Then that second part he does he removes bass drum on 3 while keeping the hi hat same and adding snare rim clicks on 2, 3, 4.
No, I could have explained it better. I just came across this video again, completely randomly, about a year or so since I left that comment, and I've actually just finished recording an album with me on drums which has developed my sense of understanding drumming a little better. Just now, playing along, I noticed that Dave's bass kicks are very slightly grooved - it might just be me, but I think I'm hearing the first kick (of the two kicks during the verse beat) being slightly softer than the second. The kicks are also slightly delayed, ever so slightly, but enough that it would be a huge gulf in sound between how Dave plays it and how a technical drummer would play it.
+Kieran Mercer Not true. they did not play it live all together. they played it separately and individually. there is another reason for the bleed, which I do not know.
The other stuff you hear is bleed from the bass and guitar amps. They recorded the basic tracks for this album live in the studio and Kurt added vocals and guitar overdubs later. The entire drum room was mic’d and the bass amp was in the next room.
This is great, but what’s the point of making a practice track for other people with no count-in, and no BPM? This track is supposed to be 100 or 99 bpm and it’s not according to ableton
New to music or something? It's not a practice track. It is the isolated drums from the recordings. Also, 99% of studio recorded music doesn't follow the click to perfection. It's what makes music more organic and "human."
Holy shit the snares and kick especially are perfect. Those rim shots fit the song so well.
Those machine gun snares at the end!

It’s mostly the bass guitar that you here behind the drums and certainly because they were recorded together
vibrating up through the floor and bleeding into the mic
Eddie Adams From Torrance 🙌

Jan Che Do you mean when he hit the side of the snare?
He's playing a simple backbeat drum pattern with Eighth notes on hi-hat, Eighth notes with bass drum only on 1 and 3, snare 2 and 4. Then that second part he does he removes bass drum on 3 while keeping the hi hat same and adding snare rim clicks on 2, 3, 4.
Go to "aula de batería" here on youtube - there it's perfectly explained.
He's playing the snare about a flam width ahead of the beat.

theres guitar and bass sir
thats because they did the bed tracks live in the room with everyone so there is bleed into the mics
+Kieran Mercer Not true. they did not play it live all together. they played it separately and individually. there is another reason for the bleed, which I do not know.
+Bees Wax you are wrong. they did overdubs separately AFTER the bed tracks were done.
+Bees Wax dave was in a room and then kurt and krist were behind glass to create enough isolation ... it still bleeds through tho.
bleed from headphones maybe
its only drum and in the background a bit guitar, and not much bass.

@@thenewyorkpauls have listen exactly this in an interview ?

this is not a practice track, it's the actual drums of the song
and the song was recorded live, thats why it has no bpm

@@elgatorock2321 ah thank you
@@icaanul not new, just make mostly electronic music with drum machines - thanks for the info
