    Rylee Blade of Santiago (Corona) stormed through Irvine's Great Park and served notice to the high school running community that she is a national championship contender.
    Blade led throughout and surged away from the field, never taking her foot off the proverbial gas on the way to a record-breaking time of 15:20.3.
    Her time smashed the meet record and fastest time ever by a high school girl on a 3-mile course with 15:20.3.
    "I'm super happy right now. I don't have many words for it," Blade said. "I'm super excited for the rest of the season."
    Blade was followed to the finish line by La Jolla CA's Chiara Dailey, who also ran under the previous record with 15:28.2.
    Lewisville Flower Mound of Texas proved to be far better than a No. 21 ranking, putting three runners between 14th and 19th place, and winning the Bob Day Sweepstakes team title with a surprising 92 points.
    Flower Mound is the first Texas team to win the sweepstakes crown. Alexandra Fox was 14th (16:23.1), Ava Cole was 17th (16:27.2) and Adeline Bennett was 19th in 16:27.7.
    In the battle royale among top-15 ranked California teams, the Sadie Engelehardt-led Ventura to a second-place finish with 112 points.
    Blade's Corona team finished third with 141 points. Braelyn Combe finished ninth overall.
    Buchanan, ranked No. 3 coming in, was fourth with 161 points.
    Defending NXN champion Air Academy, No. 2, finished behind J Serra Catholic and was sixth.
    Timpview UT senior Jane Hedengren, the 2023 winner, ran near the front until the final mile and ended up fourth (15:36.7), one spot behind teammate Lily Alder (15:28.9).
    Erika Kirk from Vista Murrieta CA won the rated girls race with 16:33.0 as El Toro claimed the team win with 90 points.

    Ryle has the perfect long leg to short torso ratio and narrow hip/pelvis structure for a distance runner. Assuming everyone does the same 40 miles/week, the outcome is 80% who has the right bone proportions and lungs. That's why runners should focus on self improvement - doing YOUR best. And just enjoying being healthy enough to run. Sharing the experience with your team. Spending time in the outdoors in the autumn. Every single girl in this race should feel proud of herself.

      @Carlos.288 I ran for a top D1 program, and there were two girls on our team who ran 30 miles/wk who floated like gazelles and easily made All American. Many of us ran 50 - 60, put in more effort during interval workouts, ate/slept/breathed track, and consistently finished further back. It would be wonderful if running were a meritocracy, but that's just not how it works. And it's okay....as long as people don't tear themselves apart by comparing to others.

    I am no one when it comes to running I have never raced. Climbed Mount Whitney 14,505 feet tall but that is different. I have noticed some of the best long distance women runners have very small hips. I think the wider your hips get the longer the motion you have to swing your legs, girls with small hips can put all the motion forward and save energy. Also I am amazed these girls have little muscle in their bottoms, all in the thighs and calf muscles.

    • @Vadeemers
      @Vadeemers 2 дня назад +2

      It's not but like SilverLakes (where Leo and Nico ran fast) it is intended to be a fast course. No hills, flat, sweeping turns, short grass and pavement. The original Woodbridge course was flat and started to get a rep for being a good course for early season fast times so they decided to embrace that to help grow the event. Mt. Sac is not exactly 3 and has hills, Fresno (Woodward Park) has hills, Foot Locker (San Diego) has a hill, NXN is a beast and they try to make it muddy and dumb so it is a chance for Woodbridge to shine (and draw).
      Edit: forgot to mention that Foot Locker and NXN are also 5k, not 3 miles.
      Edit 2: Mt. Sac is changing it's invitational course this year (and removing poop out hill). I'm not sure if they will get the exact 3 standard moving forward but it still has two big hills. I don't know if CIF will use the new course or the old one.

    • @Vadeemers
      @Vadeemers 2 дня назад

      They don't count Mt. Sac because it doesn't match the exact 3-mile standard for their regular course. The time you are referring to was run on the rain course so I'm guessing they didn't get that standard either as it is an alternate rarely used course. The Mt. Sac invitational is switching to a different course (no poop out hill, finishing on the track) this year but I don't know if that one will meet the standard but with the two big hills that is unlikely anyway (although a girl did run 15:46 on a modified version of the old hill course once). I'm not clear if CIF is going to use the new course or not.
