    In this Scaler 2 Modulation tutorial, Joshua Casper shows you how to use Scaler's Modal Interchange modulation preset to "Borrow Chords" from different modes in whatever scale you are composing in.
    About Borrowed Chords
    A borrowed chord (also called mode mixture, modal mixture, substituted chord, modal interchange, or mutation) is a chord borrowed from the parallel key (minor or major scale with the same tonic). Borrowed chords are typically used as "color chords", providing harmonic variety through contrasting scale forms, which are major scales and the three forms of minor scales. Chords may also be borrowed from other parallel modes besides the major and minor mode, for example D Dorian with D major. The mixing of the major and minor modes developed in the Baroque period.
    Borrowed chords are distinguished from modulation by being brief enough that the tonic is not lost or displaced, and may be considered brief or transitory modulations and may be distinguished from secondary chords as well as altered chords. According to Sheila Romeo, "[t]he borrowed chord suggests the sound of its own mode without actually switching to that mode.

    This is a great and subtle video on music theory without getting bogged down in the rationale why something works! 🎯🏆💯♥️

    The next update has to be, with multiple instances of scaler, when changing a setting,it changes all other instances, if desired. Manually changing each instance is tedious.

      In the settings there is a sync button that will sync all your scaler instances. You can even define which sections you want to sync! Hope that helps!

    What is the difference between the light gray and dark gray boxes in the modal interchange section ?

    • @NeverduskX
      @NeverduskX 3 года назад +9

      How many notes they have in common with the currently selected scale. Light gray means some in common, dark grey means none in common. Blue means they're all in scale.

    How can you stream the audio from ableton in Windows? Are you using windows drivers and so with a lot of latency?

    Why did u borrow chords only from the same column? This makes the impression that it is a necessary thing to do but actually u could take any chord from any parallel mode, well maybe excluding those with dark grey caption (chords with no common notes with the original scale).

    This is the most complicated plugin in existence. It doesn't need to be this complex.

    Man... sorry but I've gotta say it: Black people are SO creative, that Neo-Soul, Jazz, and Hip-Hop players have people inventing an app just to make the progressions we've been doing for decades. Nice app. Peace.
