These friendlies show how weak the NWSL really is compared to the European top league, even now when the European leagues are still a bit behind in their development. With only money as a draw and no Champions League, no history or tradition, no proper league system, the NWSL will become the same as the MLS for European top players: a retirement league.

In fairness to the NWSL, Gotham played without its starters. This shows that playing with substitutes is not enough to beat the top teams in the English league.

Would be interested to see Chelsea vs a Gotham with Lavelle, Niswonger, Dunn, Williams, just to name a few. But, hey….congrats Chelsea.
They're under new management, it's preseason and they aren't at regular game fitness AND they're trying to gel new signings. I think the disadvantages cancel out lol
