I am new to air gunning though 63 years old. I use to be a sniper on a SWAT team 40 years ago, Fort Benning trained out to 1200 meters, and amazed by the changes in shooting technology. I just ordered a marauder with Lothar Walther Match Barrel (.177 caliber), scope, chrono, 4.5K PSI SCBA system and have a 100 yard range in my back yard. I am a volunteer firefighter so free air, yay. You are my inspiration and I value your reviews and advise as well as several other bloggers on you tube. Keep up the great work and thank you for introducing me to a great hobby.
Great video, and I learned a lot. BTW, I know you just slipped but the speed of light is about 186,,000 Miles per SECOND, not hour. You can multiply that by 3600 times to get the MPH from the MPS. I've used the Lab Radar for a few years, after moving from the Magnetospeed. Both good, but the Magneto was shifting my POI a bit.
Great video Steve. I have the red shooting chrony. I have the red on and have never had a problem with mine. Yes sometimes it can be a pain in the butt to set up, but for home use it is good enough. In your case I can understand why you like the Labradar unit. Keep up the good work.
This video has really helped me. I've been looking for another chrono and just purchased the Labradar on the Zon for 600 after watching this video. I used to have the old chrony in the mid 90's mainly for setting up my long range 22-250 and my Weatherby Magnum's. Was reloading a lot back then and yes that thing was a pita. I've recently gotten into the air gun realm and so far enjoying it and this thing is going to definitely be a must have. Thank you again for the extended time on this, so much information.
Great video, I hope you are planning to do an incremental BC video with the different drag models at some point with a bunch of different pellets. The airgun community really would benefit from it
Good session Steve as usual tons of information to digest. I am really looking forward to the new addition of scope cam footage in your already video rich content.
Great explanation. I have owned many chronographs. The shooting crony f1, the digital pro chrony, cadwell g2 precision. And just got the lab radar I love this thing. Best invention for shooting since shooting lol!
Impressed and grateful as always, I cannot wait to see the upcomming reviews and videos using the Labradar. I have just ordered my own Labradar a few days ago and I specifically got it in order to calculate the bc of different pellets that will be specific to my rifles (Chairgun). I have yet to see how that works out but another feature that you forgot to mention is that the Labradar can be used in any weather condition and can also be "safely" used indoors, when shooting from a pool table out the back door. (It's a large glass sliding door with a wide angle of view by the way, so still safe and I have never forgotten to open the door before shooting.)
Dennis, I too will be ordering the Labradar complete package. I did see that there might be a concern of the Labradar not recognizing smaller projectiles. Hopefully this isn't a concern and that becoming familiar with the equipment and closely following instructions great performance from the unit will be realized.
Hi Joe, I have received my Labradar with the microphone trigger for airguns, unfortunately I did not get a chance to test it yet as I am on an assignment in Indonesia for a few months. As soon as I do, I will let you know.
I have Ballistic Precision, it is a pain at times. If your not in the middle it gets errors. then you have to turn it off and back on for it to read again. Great, great, great video Steve. Will the LabRadar register something as small as, say a 7 or 8 gr .177 pellet? Anyone with one feel free to can answer my question, also.
Excellent review Steve. I’ve never had or used an optical chronograph, but I’ve seen enough guys doing so to know it was more of a pain then I wanted to mess with. When the LabRadar came out I knew that was the one. I’m a 22 BR shooter and mine quickly became a standard part of my range equipment. It’s tracking every round I fire, in practice or at a match. I want to point out a subtle but very important distinction however. The LabRadar is triggered by the pressure wave created by the muzzle blast, not by the “sound” of it. It important to understand this distinction especially when trying to track a 22 or a pellet. If it was triggered by the sound it would be going off all the time. Now yes, all sounds are pressure waves, but it has to feel the pressure wave not just “hear” it. That’s why, especially when shooting a 22 or a pellet, it’s important that the unit or the microphone which is also a pressure sensor be in a position where it can feel the muzzle blast created. So, if what I’m saying is true, then why did the guy shooting that AR two benches down keep triggering my LR? Because the pressure wave created by that blast was strong enough to be picked up. That’s what the 4 trigger level settings are for, to reduce the sensitivity of the pressure sensors.
Steve, after getting some really wacky readings from my Shooting Chrony (blue), I decided try out the Caldwell G-2 Precision Chronograph. I'm hoping you may have some advice for me on one question I have: The instructions suggest a distance of 10' - 15' from the muzzle when using a firearm - that seems unnecessary for airguns. Could you suggest what you think might be a proper distance from muzzle for this circumstance? Looks like you had a fabulous Euro-trip!
Saw your question, generally firearms and shotguns emit debris which can affect readings so need 5-15 ft space to dissipate particles and debris, arrows need 1 arrow length to stabilise and you can shoot an airgun/airsoft/paintball as close as you find comfortable.
Steve I am a member of the vlog, I have watched this video twice and it was good. But I would like to have a comparison of the FX chronograph, and the and the lab radar to find out how much difference there is in the two chronographs.
Check out the most recent vlog. There's an extensive comparison between the 2 with lots of data shared. Or my Facebook, or my Instagram... Have shared everywhere.
Really looking forward to seeing some slo-mo trajectory footage of each type of pellet. I think that's a brilliant idea. Great info on the Crony's but for a guy that shoots 2 competitions a year the Dopler unit might be a little hard to justify the "boss". (you know what i'm talkin about) Great stuff..TY
Steve, my setup at home is an indoor 16 meter range. Steel backstop, no kids, pets or other folks to get in the way. I have a Shooting Chrony Blue as you've demonstrated, and it is a pain in the backside to use. Might be worth the extra $400 just for clear, concise instructions! ;) Another superb video, much appreciated!
Great video Steve! I use the Shooting Chrony F1 model , the basic stock model and I too have problems with mine working lol. That new one looks like the Rolls Royce of Chronographs! Too rich for my blood but I like that the mic has its own tri-pod lol. Can't wait to see it in action! Stay dry in sunny Florida. Been real hot here in Ontario Canada! Happy Independance Day!
Good stuff!!! You are the best. Another thing the labradar is great for is to determine ACCURATE ballistic coefficient by plugging the data from the labradar into a BC calculator app. This helps with the data I plug into my BDX rangefinder and makes my accuracy that much better. A wonderful and invaluable piece of equipment for sure!
@@AEAC I know because I follow your channel. My question was more focused to ask if you have made any specific "how to" with the labradar. By the way, congrats for your videos. Hey Steve, this might sound a dumb question, but I shoot primarily out my upstairs window because it looks out over a very wooded area … and hey, it's air conditioned in the house making it a much more pleasant shooting experience. I have heard that the doppler unit will not work when shooting through a window (from a RUclips review) because the unit needs to be unimpeded when tracking the projectile downrange. Can you verify if that is correct? Again, thanks for all you are doing for the sport … part of the fun of airgunning is trying to keep up with all the new technology … and it keeps coming almost at lightening speed.

Bottom line, a chronograph is a great tool for pellet guns and not very expensive. Steve, I'm a gizmo kind of guy and am jealous of all the stuff you have to play with. 😂

Steve, I think a BC class is in order now that you have 2 methods of measurement to get ACTUAL Bc's. So since this a GREAT Idea an I spoke it first.I would very much appreciate if you do take the time please do 13.43 .177 JSB New Design and Enjun 16gr and the 21gr piledriver. There have been claims in the past that about energy retention downrange of pile driver being better overall than other pellets. I think it would be very interesting to one have YOU do the test(lol) and at the same time check the accuracy of two types of chrony"s. Thanks for listening have great time and be safe. I am sure I will see you in October!!!
Benjamin Spencer Hi Ben! I fear BC may be way to simple a concept to make it the heart of a video so here's the nuts & bolts of it. BC is a simple measure of aerodynamic drag. Less drag = greater accuracy as more speed is maintained to target. And THAT'S important because the sooner the projectile gets to target, the less "time" wind and gravity have to alter its path. Hope this helps. Steve
I think you misunderstood. I think it would be interesting to see if both type of systems come up with and how close they would be to each other.Plus compare to many various bc numbers that are out there.
Great detailed video as always. I would love to see a vlog video on your camera equipment and editing software. I realize you massively busy. Just a suggestion for all of us that love your videos. Thanks for the video
Taking everything into account. Speed of setup versatility etc. 1. Pro Chrono DLX blue tooth. Can do it all, pellets, center fires and .204 ruger 3900 fps which Labdar cant. No wires not fiddling indoors or out it just works. And it saves to phone and unit at the same time. It even tells you the velocity in a digital voice after each shot + you can email a pdf of the shot strings. Software is super easy and hooking to phone is auto. NO WIRES NO paper no pen needed. 2. Magntor speed V3 - Outdoor range friendly small no tripod needed. Slower to use and changes POI since it hangs of barrel. 3.LabRadar - finicky slow has lots of features. Getting data off it is clunky less stream lined. Fails on high velocity rounds and too many wires hanging off it. But if you just want to make You Tube Videos it might be faster than trying to line up two chronos. Most people will have BUYERS remorse on Labdars. I have both pellet guns and center fire.
Great video Steve. I'm currently using a Magneto Speed V3 chrono with great success. Lab Radar is the top dog with the V3 closely behind. I have a Galaxy S9 Plus and wouldn't mind that case. Thanks again for the great video.
If you have a penny jar, save up for the Lab Radar. It's the best way to go. When I got my v3 the LR wasn't on the market at the time. Love my v3, but if I had to do it over again, the LR would be on my shooting bench. Remember the old saying "Buy once, cry once". Happy Shooting Harry
At the loud range you'd put it in "doppler mode," instead of using the mic to trigger. This uses sight of the projectile to trigger....its not as accurate this way though. Steve
I’m looking forward to seeing you add slugs to your pellet repertoire, at least for those guns that are able to handle them. I also hope you get a chance to review this guy: www.americantactical.us/5690/detail.html
shooting chrony, if you are listening, you need to upgrade your product. The software and user interface is in need of an update. 1990. 2018 ka band your radar cron. could be X K KA. or other . you said it could do mph
so ? x k ka. not that it matters your video are by far the best 2 date
Another great, and informative video Steve .
I can't wait until you ''donate'' it to a lucky viewer !(hopefully ,ME)
Thanks for the time you put in making the videos !
For the price, and the average shooter, you can't beat Competition Electronics.
Is Jim Smith a simulated name?.
Nice videos! I'm one of your subscribers and I noticed that I haven't received any notifications of new videos? For some reason I got un subscribed from your channel along with others channels. This is not the first time it happens so just for your information.
What is your title on instagram. I can’t find you as AEAC
I couldn’t take my eyes off of the unfinished crown molding over your left shoulder.
186,000 miles a second
The speed of light
Lighting for the prochrono is 50.00 not 20.00 times -are -a -changing.
Geez, that's a lotta inflation 😮
Great detailed video as always. I would love to see a vlog video on your camera equipment and editing software. I realize you massively busy. Just a suggestion for all of us that love your videos.
Thanks for the video
Which one of the 3 are you doing a paid promotion for?
None of them. I just set up all of both channels that way as not to have any trouble out of RUclips.
Speed of light is approximately 186,000 miles per second; not miles per hour.
Wish I saw this before I bought the chrony!
Great video Steve. I'm currently using a Magneto Speed V3 chrono with great success. Lab Radar is the top dog with the V3 closely behind. I have a Galaxy S9 Plus and wouldn't mind that case.
Thanks again for the great video.
Harry Toomey email me at airgunsteve@gmail.com and I'll send it your way Harry 👍
I would love to get a v3 but the cost (~$380) to me is prohibitive.
If you have a penny jar, save up for the Lab Radar. It's the best way to go. When I got my v3 the LR wasn't on the market at the time. Love my v3, but if I had to do it over again, the LR would be on my shooting bench.
Remember the old saying "Buy once, cry once".
Happy Shooting
Harry
Great video
I wonder how much fun one could have with that mic. at the range next to a 300 Win. Mag.
At the loud range you'd put it in "doppler mode," instead of using the mic to trigger. This uses sight of the projectile to trigger....its not as accurate this way though. Steve
Steve your vids are great. Could you please leave the text on the screen a little longer? I can’t read that fast! More Diana guns please.
Video kinda starts at 4 min. You’re welcome.
The speed of light is approximately 186,000 miles per second.
Thanks for sharing. Very informative.
my criswell came the same as the plastic one and with lights for 150
Seems like a great tool
Pro chrono does the job very well
It no longer for sale, so good I opted for the chrony beta.
I made my own rods and shield and never get errors.
Sounds like you need a College Intern who's major is Film & Broadcast to help SETUP and take down your Range Filming.
Like Cecil B DeMills said lights camera action. Never have the lights behind the subj.;
First!. Greetings from Spain.
Great wrk.
Just wish LabRadar went up to 4999 fps that way everything I own could be used
I’m looking forward to seeing you add slugs to your pellet repertoire, at least for those guns that are able to handle them.
I also hope you get a chance to review this guy: www.americantactical.us/5690/detail.html
Edward Nutter Me too Ed.. Nova Freedom is generating some good buzz right now. Steve
Thanks Steve!
KnifeMaker
shooting chrony, if you are listening, you need to upgrade your product. The software and user interface is in need of an update. Time to stop resting on your laurels and get working on bluetooth , apps, and simpler button arrangements. I need to read a book every time I want to sort through how to erase the data on your product.
Me, me and ME!
Umm 186k miles per second, you was 3600 times to slow.
Yeah, I fumbled that one. Steve
IT IS COOL AND SO AM I? Wow! If you have to say you are cool you are anything but.
Had to shut it off
Amazing isn't it? 14,000 + subscribers without having ever fired a shot, lol. People are hungry for airgun school. But if first person isn't your style, you'll probably enjoy my bigger channel more, "AEAC Home." 71,000 reside there 👍😁
Why do you people always waffle on to us mere mortals witha lot of info crap we do not need. For goodness sake get on with the review!
Fx
I've been able to recently review that one for y'all too.
Too much jabber

Too much off topic chatter
That's 25 mins of my life wasted , which ones for you will bore you senseless , get shooting something through them and show us proper testing, not talk us to sleep , 25 mins of technical drivell
OH MY GOD blah blah blah blah. blah ,
You talk too much
to much bla bla bla
