3:50 Just a point of clarification to help anyone who might be confused: the fact that the Perun and AK can shoot with stock folded isn’t because they’re piston. It’s because they have recoil systems that are enclosed within the receiver. Great video as always!
I was about to mention that. The HK416 is a piston gun, but it uses the traditional recoil assembly with the buffer tube, so it doesn't fold (well, in theory it does, but let's say to the same extent as a regular AR).
Looks like no one has mentioned a secondary point for a folding adapter: overall weapon balance. It makes the weapon easier to move around and sling around when the front and rear of the weapon are closer in weight.
So the application for folding stocks is…they’re cool as hell. Sometimes that’s enough of a reason, and people will still try to further justify a choice- when there’s no need.
Great demo and thought exercise. People need to critically think through their use cases before arguing about ideas made up by marketing teams and gear reviewers who are regurgitating said marketing. Also just because something does/doesn't work for your use case, does not mean its not the opposite for someone else.
Seems like the stock really adds value for follow-up shots. I'd be willing to wager a more obvious improvement in follow-up accuracy with a stock vs without. "you do you" I like that. Maybe a tattoo idea.
Folding stocks are cool. If the rifle has one I think its a good idea to be able to fire with it folded (such as: it doesn't cover the ejection port) In the real world it clearly doesnt matter. Its a nice luxery, and I'm sure guys in vehicles enjoy taking 8+ inches off the rifle for storage. But if it really mattered that much the AR15 wouldnt have stuck around. The G3 wouldnt have primary been equipped with a fixed stock, and even the AK4D is only collapsing. The FAL wouldve only come in para models. The 416/417 series would never have been perused. The Chinese QBZ191(?) isnt folding despite china stealing the best elements from everyone else. Folders are nice, folders are not mandatory.
I agree with the idea of your video that a concealed pistol is easier and faster to deploy, which is why that is still the primary weapon. The bag gun is a secondary for a really bad situation where you have to fight for an extended time or get home (very rare scenario), I feel like this was missed in your video and should have been added for better context of the bag guns purpose.
I don’t shoot a gun with the stock folded unless I have no choice. But I do love folding or collapsible stocks as I’m a paraplegic due to stuff that I did in the military and a folding stock makes it so much easier to carry around.
Over and over again, The doors are locked and the windows are broken. I've just always been concerned about anything with a bolt adapter, really want to get my hands on one of those shield arms folders that are built into the receiver. Then again its really only for bag storage or travel in an urban area for that purpose in reality for me. You rock Ivan!
I have a 17Design lower, same as the shield. Theyre cool and all, the hinges and lockup are steel. I see no reason they wouldnt hold up to long term use, but I dont ever find myself using it. Partly because I prefer A5 tubes, partly because I transport my rifle broken in half.
For me the only true purpose of a folding stock is to be able to fit something in a backpack. But now with unconstitutional brace crap going on, I think folding firearms like the S&W FPC and FoldAr are even more important designs.
My bigger issue with the AR style folding stock systems (beside the platform itself) is that they open your action to the elements when it's folded, along with the lack of function when folded. While it might not be probable I definitely want to be able to employ my weapon system as quickly and effectively as possible regardless of scenario or conditions, needing to take a buffer system into consideration just seems like an unnecessary step in the modern day.
That’s what I’ve always found weird about them too. One of the nice things about the AR is that it’s a fairly sealed system when the dust cover is closed.
Opens your action to the elements what? If You're out and about outside chances are the stock would already be deployed. If it's folded you're most likely either in a vehicle, in a building or in it's sitting in a bag/case.
Love it man! I adore my law folder so much! I got a very botique 14.5 block 2 dd build with all the great upgrades (vltor a5, Geissele trigger, radian, etc, and a 2.5-20x50 nightforce nx8 f1 in a badger comm, with a dd fixed front and a Matech BUIS.) the law allows me to pack it into a grey ghost apparition bag perfectly. It’s my packable SBR/do anything 556 can do from CQC to 600 meter setup. Just need the LMT EBCG to make it bomb proof durable with the gassy carbine length gas system and I still need a sandman s but I’m getting there. Taken me 5 years to build this sucker on a aero lower and she’s my baby!

@@chuckclark6162 clearly you have not watched brass facts, he seems allergic to smgs. he only likes pistol chassis (or his tp9 that broke at 3k rds) and calls them pdws.
Had ace folders on my ak's for as far as I can remember. They're only useful in a very narrow window of use cases. Pistol configuration for travel in a backpack, and while seated car travel, and that only was to keep a low profile while driving around armed. Gonna switch everything except my pistol back to a fixed stock just for the sake of stability and accuracy. Nobody's "operating" in the states, and even cops carry fixed stocks in their cruisers; so unless you're a tank crewman or a Columbian cartel member in Juarez, I don't see the point.
I think in training I found keeping my sling in one of my water bottle pockets on my bag worked better for me than having it attached to the rifle in the bag. I felt that I was getting hung up and having issues trying to deploy the stock with it connected. At that point I made my decision that for a defensive bag gun that a sling attached is not immediately necessary because I am not deploying it to throw my sling on I am deploying it to give me a buffer zone and to break contact to a better defensive position.
I've always been skeptical of underfoders, couldn't really see a use. Cheek weld seemed awkward af too. The only scenario would be in vehicle use, but if you leave the vehicle, now your at a disadvantage?
I bought a Law folder for my AR9k pistol. I wound up taking it off for a few reasons. First and mainly, I never transported it folded. It was nice to get it into a small bag, but I never carried it like that and most of my bags were either too big or too small for it. Also, it only folds to the left side, but my weapon light was on the right side, making the gun just that much wider. Not a huge deal, but it wouldn't help if I bagged it. It also didn't make much sense to me to have both a collapsing stock/brace AND the folder. Sure, you can have the stock folded and to the length you want, but it sort of negated the collapsing stock aspect. Lastly, I couldn't really make use of mag couplers with the stock folded. I couldn't keep the extra mag to the left side, because the stock was in the way; I could only use it on the right side, making the gun extra wide, similar to the weapon light above.
Past a PDW and/or emergency situations. I don’t believe anyone wants a folder to shoot it that way, it’s for transportation and reducing the signature.
Fending off a Grizzly with a knife corded to the end of a stick will, at least for me, be complicated by my preference for the stick to be 300 yards long, which is _usable_, but unwieldy.
Where is a folding stock useful? Bring into a hotel room unnoticed and unfold when in the room (issues with room service?) When on the tractor and you need to store something compact that can send lead 100-200 yards. When you have a small box at a friend's house. When you need to direct traffic on the streets of SHTFville and might come under fire from 100-200 yards away.
the new stern defense rab is a really good alternative for people wanting quick assembly of a broken down ar but without the added weight of the folding brace. law folding braces are very heavy.
The scenarios I can envision it being important are: 1. Maneuvering it inside a vehicle, for instance when faced with an ambush, and 2. If you needed to fire it while still inside the bag, either for immediate threat reasons or a life-saving deception. Other than those, I am surprised and impressed that your times for each iteration were so closely matched.

And why now thank god force developers now select a caliber and cartridge [then] build the wpn around that cartridge. Not hey here are the requirements and oh yea we gotta build it from the Remington 700 trigger 🧐
Quite honestly every joe wants to be John Wick, or think they are. The use case for firing folded would be a PDW w/ sling under a cover garment. The MP5 has been used this way for ages. And yes a "bag gun" is a really limited use scenario, on body handgun is far superior. Even a handgun in a bag is faster if it has to be off body for some reason. For a bag gun you could run a non folding AR slit in two just fine if your not depending on it for a reaction type tool.
Probably not a lot of self defense situations for most people to use a bag gun over their pistol. Plus in a real scenario the bag will be zipped and probably over your shoulder doubling the time you already had to access it. Like you say people should do what they want
I just like options. If I have a stock that folds, I want it to be able to fire either way. Narrow use? Absolutely. Likely to ever be needed? Of course not. Then again, how much of what we do is for those "almost never" scenarios?
So a dude is running up on you threatening you with a weapon like a knife, you gonna take the time to unfold that stock or are you gonna blast him away and probably not miss considering the distance?
I like the idea of a folding stock but only on a weapon that was designed with that feature from the beginning. Yes like the AK or Sig 550 series with the integrated folder or a newer Sig MCX or Cmmg dissent. What I think is ridiculous but great marketing is gadgets being made to attach to our favorite black rifle. Adding buffer weight with the plug, adding additional friction through the assembly, adding a point of failure for hardware malfunction or coming loose is just a poor idea a the end of the day. And it will fire with it folded, once. I have seen a ton of law folders and they are usually on rifles that dont get used. My rifles are tuned, staked and they stay that way, each config has a purpose. I dont want a $299 gimmick to remove reliability.
If most of us in the 2A community were 100% honest we would admit that we build or buy firearms based first on reported reliability but cosmetics is a close second, so many of us trick out our so-called go-to boomsticks with the latest, greatest battle/ SWAT tested parts and gear and there is nothing wrong with doing that, and we all should buy the best we can afford, but the cold hard truth of the matter is that the majority of us own a go-to weapon system that by its design has capabilities and an endurance level that far exceed our own current physical and mental capabilities. Having a badass battle-tested rifle and cool high-speed tactical gear is cool but it doesn't mean diddly squat when the SHTF or in a life or death situation if you're out of shape mentally and physically like most of us are. Yeah yeah I know we all like to believe we're all prepared for whatever and whenever a situation arises especially those of us who are former hi-speed Johnny badasses with combat experience even though a lot of us haven't run much or worked out since receiving our DD-214 lol

The type of person who thinks they need to time their pull rifle out of backpack and fire maneuver strikes me as the type of person who carries hot and does not need to rack one out of the bag. hmm I disagree, most people get a handgun over a rifle because a rifle can't really be concealed, something like a Rattler can fit that inbetween role pretty well, can go in a bag, under your winter jacket, so more useful that you would think!

I couldn't care less about deploying a weapon with a folding stock quickly. The point to me has always been getting it as small as possible for transportation and storage.
Sort of unrelated, if you waste money buying an "PDW" stock for you AR that isnt any shorter than a normal stock collapsed but sacrifices your cheek weld, you need to be laughed at. Unless you say you did it for aesthetics, then thats fine.
I'm glad you started the drill by chambering first. The idea of keeping a bag gun with one in the chamber seems incredibly irresponsible. Having to charge the gun, after pulling the gun out of a bag, really makes me wonder "why not just deploy the stock too??". A bag gun is like a truck gun in my opinion. They are not a replacement for a locked and loaded pistol on your belt. They are stored away guns with serious capabilities, but they always will require you to have the time to actually deploy them.
Completely unrelated but would that Sitka Jacket make a good insulating L3 layer or is it too thick to fit under a softshell/hardshell? Thanks for the awesome content as always.
holding my ak sideways on my lap while im sitting in a car and shooting through the door at a perpendicular angle to my body works better with no stock
Piston =/= can shoot with stock folded. Gas system has nothing to do with whether or not the stock can fold. Still not sure shy people can t get this right
I hate this video, because it's a serious reality check. I am repulsed by the law folder, but demonstrating that it would not change how I'd shoot: that hurts my head, and I can't cope. Just let me shop for proprietary and overpriced ARs (that I will literally never shoot in closed position), and do so in peace. 😭
Good video. I think this concept of people falling in love with the idea of very specialized features applies to tons of firearms features or designs that are in vogue now. People want what's cool - not necessarily what they NEED. Night vision being an obvious example. 0 practical application for most people. Thermal is better for hunting, and good luck in court if you're stalking around your house with NV. But it's cool. Subsonic suppression is another great example. Why would you choose to give up lethality and ballistic performance? We know that terminal ballistics are vastly improved beyond 2,000 fps or so. The signature reduction that allows operators to stealthily clear buildings and complexes without being precisely located isn't really useful for civvies. But it's fun/cool. Long range or PRC stuff too. Hitting a man-sized target at 600+ just doesn't have much application for civilians. It's just fun.
Nah. This argument is completely silly - if time is that precious then the idea of deploying a bag gun means you're already dead and should have just gone with the loaded pistol on your belt
Pull your complete upper and complete lower out of the bag, line them up and pop your pins in. How many shots do you think the folder has on target by the time you get your first round off?

I couldn't care less about deploying a weapon with a folding stock quickly. The point to me has always been getting it as small as possible for transportation and storage.
Two questions: Is your van AWD and can we get a playlist of your music?
Random but what jacket is that? It's really nice
Suppressive fire is faster as you are not aiming.
How has the Perun been shooting for you ?
Mission dictates gear.
Ak folder: absolutely
Ar folder: ehh
Maybe with 300blk with 7"-
Not on any 5.56 10.3"+
Bought 3 Law TF. Sold one, two just sit in the drawer.
Sort of unrelated, if you waste money buying an "PDW" stock for you AR that isnt any shorter than a normal stock collapsed but sacrifices your cheek weld, you need to be laughed at.
Unless you say you did it for aesthetics, then thats fine.
Id still rather carry my OG G43 with Vickers +2 base plates and DCC clips OR a spiritus fanny pack.
What knife is that or did I miss it?
Mormon Assault Vehicle...... Hee He....
What bag is that?
With PCCs you can shoot them with the stock folded, and if you keep it in condition I just flip safety you greatly increase speed.
you logical maniac you
Completely unrelated but would that Sitka Jacket make a good insulating L3 layer or is it too thick to fit under a softshell/hardshell?
Thanks for the awesome content as always.
holding my ak sideways on my lap while im sitting in a car and shooting through the door at a perpendicular angle to my body works better with no stock
I think the folding stock shines most when shooting from a moving vehicle
Just sayin...
Zip the bag up and sling it. I bet it's more like 8 or 9 sec.
🙌🔥🙌
Why fold when you can collapse 🤔
WetKneeGang wut up?
Piston =/= can shoot with stock folded. Gas system has nothing to do with whether or not the stock can fold. Still not sure shy people can t get this right
Because some people think the AR doesnt have a piston.
I thought this was going to be a video on the myth of Women sleeping my bad
Yes gonna buy a 250$ law Tactical part cause it won't fit in my 22$ bag lol... I always though this was stupid ..just me I guess they sell tons
Try multiple hits and it makes even less sense.
You're taking a lot of fun out of my gun collection 🤣🤣
We know things will never change. The status quo will always be the same, bad things will never happen...... -_-
Laughs in ak100 series
Laughs in not using commie trash.
No I don't like the idea of fending off a 🐶 @ all regardless.
Shooting with folded sock..... outside of a drive by in a fully loaded car. Not ideal.
This is the equivalent of trying to argue for not carrying one in the chamber and just racking it when you draw. Aka WRONG
Nah. This argument is completely silly - if time is that precious then the idea of deploying a bag gun means you're already dead and should have just gone with the loaded pistol on your belt
News flash: you can easily separate the upper and lower receivers of an AR
So stop putting dumb crap on your rifles please 😤
So true. Realistically, the only add on that really makes a lot of sense is a light. Everything else is fluff.
Pull your complete upper and complete lower out of the bag, line them up and pop your pins in. How many shots do you think the folder has on target by the time you get your first round off?
@@PancakesRevenge Remove your bag from your back, unzip the compartment, pull out your rifle, and unfold the stock. How many shots do you think the handgun has on target before you get your first round off?
What bag is that?
