Hi jeff. Just a quick question. Im tiling my shower walls with white subway tiles and i will be using a dark grey for grouting. Just wondering if you would use a white silicone for the corner walls or would you try and get a grey silicone to try and match the grout colour.

Hey Jeff, I have been looking for a video for the proper way to replace the caulking around a shower/tub. I've searched your channel but not finding what I am looking for. What do you recommend to seal seams outdoors between PVC and concrete? Im finding out that many outdoor products simply won’t adhere to PVC trim and concrete.
@@ST-0311 thanks for the response. We tried the Advanced. I’m not sure why it failed. The area we are trying to seam is between pvc trim and our concrete patio which gets full (Texas) sun throughout the summer and multiple freeze-thaw events throughout winter. I may be asking too much for any sealer under these conditions. We’ve tried some Sika products as well which seems to be more UV stable but won’t adhere to PVC.
@@ricecowboy That is interesting. How exactly did the Advanced fail? Did it not stick to one surface or the other? Or did it shrink / crack? I don't doubt you, but that's very unusual in either instance. You could try DAP 100% Silicone- Window, Door, and Siding. It stinks until it dries. It is sticky and gooey as hell, so wear gloves. Also keep mineral spirits handy for clean up. It only comes in clear or white, and is not paintable. It will, however, stick to almost anything. I have used it as an adhesive where PL adhesives failed. It is also a pain to remove once it sticks and dries, so apply to a limited test area first. Before using silicone you could also tape off the bottom 1/4" edge of the PVC trim and paint it with a BONDING primer. Best to sand that edge with 120 grit sandpaper before priming. You probably know this, but I'll add it anyway. Make sure the concrete surface is free of dust. No adhesive will stick to a dusty surface. Good luck.
@@ST-0311 thanks. I’ll give it another go with the DAP. It might be the dust since the adhesion failure seems to be on the concrete side. It’s going to be fun trying to remove the old silicone. I’ll give it a good sand and repaint it with KILZ. Appreciate the insight.
@@ricecowboy Please note regular Kilz is not a bonding primer. Kilz Adhesion is a bonding primer, but expensive. Valspar Bonding Primer (Lowe's) if you want to brush on, or Rust-Oleum Universal Bonding Primer to spray on are both good products.

Totally on board for outdoor use too. Question though (Novice), silicone caulk can’t be painted right? So how do I make it colored or is there a way to paint it to match trim?
For opened tubes it's months. Probably 3-6 months or less. You have to seal the nozzle. For the sealed tubes it's 1-2 years in average. I just had a few tubes stored in Texas summer heat for over 5 years (maybe 7). The latex got thicker but I could still use them. But.. 2 tubes cracked because the tubes plastic became fragile. The silicone tubes garden up real fast.
So much technology, yet I don't understand why caulk manufacturers can't make all tubes of caulk that include extra screw on tips so when they inevitably harden you can remove and replace the clogged tip. I get they want to sell more tubes of caulking, but there has be a better way!
It isn’t just caulking. Spray foam has the same issue. If you don’t use the whole can the spray tube clogs up and it becomes useless. I usually remove and try and clear the dried product with some success. But being able to purchase the tubes would be great. Probably why you can’t.
@@rolandthethompsongunner64 the trick with spray foam is have a little acetone on hand. It’ll melt the crud out of the spray tube and clear it (before it completely dries). As for the top nozzle on the can, just drip a few drops into opening of the nozzle and let it sit. Then wipe it out. I do it twice to be safe, but you can reuse it that way. It worked well for me.
