Bruh this energy. It's the power of music. As a metal fan, I get so much joy from watching this type of videos. A lot of people think metal is dark and shit, but music is music. It's all about spreading good vibes, I'm glad all these reaction channels are doing metal, because as dark as it may seem on the surface, it really only speaks about shit we all go through, just from a different perspective. Great video, keep up the good work.

That's what I love about reactions from people who only listened to rap before. The discovery of how important the instrumental parts are. Not taking away anything from rap, it's not my thing but it's not like you can enjoy the music all that much. It's cool to see you enjoying it for the first time. Good reaction man, keep it up, you're very intuitive.

Metal soothes me when I'm pissed as well...normally a tune that's angrier than me works like a charm 😂

    • @johnswanger8474
      @johnswanger8474 5 лет назад +5

@@richarddimeck4578 absolutely works. Gives you a channel for the negativity, increases the adrenaline levels, then *directs* those into what is a positive experience, i.e. listening to something you enjoy. When the adrenaline dump subsides (quickly ) you get an endorphin release followed by an emotional and physical exhaustion. Controlled, it appears to be more like a subdued (read: calm) state. You are more conscious of the music, which distracts your thoughts, allowing your brain to begin to reject the source of the anger by way of aversion. Which is why it's "hard to stay white-hot pissed".
This is a very basic principle of anger management skills.

    Hey OTC,
What you described is the core of metal music; it's all about pure energy and emotion fused with a deeper sense of musicianship. It's about creating music that takes you on a journey. This song is as you've read in the comments below is about the book by Earnest Hemingway by the same title, which is a war novel. The next time you listen to this song, pay closer attention to the lyrics, and you'll appreciate the composition even more. Actually, hearing this song when I was only 12 made me want to read the book. The song captures the reality of war as the book does, and this was the genius of Metallica, particularly the early days of the band.
Man, I love to see rap or Hip Hop heads listen to metal and actually like it. You get it dude. This is metal, and there is so much more amazing music you may like still out there for you to discover, new and old. I'm happy to come along with you on your journey as a metalhead who also appreciates rap/hip hop and various other genres of music. I've been a metalhead since I was 12, but have always been open to all types of music, and the older I grew, the more open-minded I became. It's important to keep an open mind because there's so, so much unique, wonderful music out there for us all to discover. It's about keeping an open mind and letting the music speak for itself, not the various lemmings of mainstream society speak about it for you.
    -Peace and metal

To live is to die - Metallica
Your comment on the other Metallica video about the instruments being apart of the song made me think you would like this one plus I figured a heap of other people will request the more popular songs anyway. This song is purely an instrumental and is a tribute to their late bass player Cliff Burton who died in a bus crash while on tour in Sweden in 1986. It's deliberately a very incomplete song full of mixed riffs and licks that cliff wrote and stuff the other band members wrote to capture their emotion about his death. It's a powerful song, I think you'll enjoy it. Even though he passed 2 years before this was released it's his last writing credit for Metallica and definitely the end of an era in the Metallica world. There is a poem in there near the end that Cliff was fond of. That's the only lyrics you'll need to worry about though.
      ENJOY!

the long intro, if you ever listen to this song again. imagine sitting in the back of an armored vehicle, heading towards explosions and flying bullets in the distance, then when the pace picks up is the point where you jump out the vehicle and go on by foot "in to the endless gray" and "the raging glow"
if you do that, suddenly it makes sense. like the lead up to the battle, the march into war. something like that.
also, i really liked your comment of feeling like a biker or a rebel, because back in those times that was certainly the point of the music, but i think the instruments in rock and metal music, its almost as if they speak to something primal. it just hypes you up, just like you said. metal and rock concerts the energy in the crowd is something else.

Metallica's a bit special in the thrash metal world, and this song is a good example.
First, hit wikipedia up for the structure of a baroque dance suite, and compare to how this is put together. Metallica playing to a set of 200-300 year old rules that *work*...
Second, the song's basis is Hemingway's 'For Whom the Bell Tolls', which is a hell of a read as well... in book and lyric, all about going through with the plan even though circumstances have changed and there's no real reason anymore, even though it may kill you.

The power of Barry White in a love song.
The power of the message like from Public Enemy.
The Power of the beat in a song like Sucker MC (old Run DMC) pure kick, snare and clap. Grooviest beat, and simple.
The power in a voice like Aretha or Patti.
Metal has its own power, in the Guitar sound, big drums etc.. It's all about power and energy=emotion. All genres of music have their power, and shouldn't be compared against each other, to me they are different.
You def made sense, and it's cool to see ppl enjoy the power in whatever music they listening to. Keep making the vids, we appreciate it, thanks again.

You get the point of heavy metal and I freaking love that! The guitars, bass, and drums are all part of the song so you're definitely right! You rock man!

    Some metal facts! :
This was in the movie Zombieland! In the opening credits and end credits, if I remember right.
And that energy is what metal is all about, in my opinion. And that's why you see mosh pits and "wall of death" which you could make some video reactions to that if you wanted to.
Also, Metallica has 3 instrumentals that feel like they tell a story all on their own: Orion, Call of The Ktulu, and Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth), which is a bass solo.

And that riff in the beginning is an actual effing bass guitar :)
To think what Cliff Burton would have become :(
If you wanna watch/react to one of the best bass solos recorded, type pulling teeth live 1983.

I remember hearing Metallica for the first time. I was 17 back in 84. Fight fire with fire was the track. OMG!!! It changed me completely. Also I loved NWAs first record and for my close friends and I we felt dangerous listening to it. Both genre's help realease the aingst and negative energy in a positive way. Worked hard and struggled every day. Rap and Metal helped me through. I still love it and appreciate your videos. Subbed today.

You're right about the energy. My buddies and I used Metallica as a way to get pumped before a rumble (we used to rumble in middle and high school) back in '86 and '87...try Damage, Inc on your next one!

Metallica have written songs about some pretty heavy topics. You should listen to Fade to Black and/or The Day That Never Comes. They're not the typically thrash tracks but the lyrics are really well written

Make his fight on the hill in the early day
    Constant chill deep inside
Shouting gun, on they run through the endless grey
On the fight, for they are right, yes, by who's to say?
For a hill men would kill, why? They do not know
Stiffened wounds test there their pride
Men of five, still alive through the raging glow
Gone insane from the pain that they surely know
    For whom the bell tolls
    Time marches on
    For whom the bell tolls
Take a look to the sky just before you die
It is the last time you will
Blackened roar massive roar fills the crumbling sky
Shattered goal fills his soul with a ruthless cry
Stranger now, are his eyes, to this mystery
He hears the silence so loud
Crack of dawn, all is gone except the will to be
Now they see what will be, blinded eyes to see
    For whom the bell tolls
    Time marches on
    For whom the bell tolls
