@Ateyurock FYI the de la hoya fight was no catch weight. Oscar picked that weight (147) thinking he had an easy fight against a tiny dude. Nobody made Oscar do anything that was all him.

@merksperk2 you got a point there, but think of it, what title does pac holds? wbo ww belt, what would be at stake if they fight at jw? and you're wrong about that sergio's natural weight is light middleweight, he walks around at 170lbs.. there's no logic in making pac ang sergio fight..
Marg was slow as a snail at 147.... then he had a 14 month layoff and fought a Roberto Garcia at a weightclass higher (yes it often can slow a fighter, fact) before going down to 150 (something else that can slow a fighter) to fight Pacquiao for a vacant "154*" title... it was a grand scale farce, lol.

Well, considering the fact that a lot of people are saying that Pacquiao beat an old, slow Mosley, and old de la Hoya, a beat up Cotto, a beat up Margarito, and Clottey, who can't go on the offense to save his life, I think having Martinez as an opponent is a nice change in scenery. No offense to Pacquiao, just his recent choice of opponents.
@ForME4mi Hopkins started at Jr. MW ...reigned at 160 for many many years... and is fighting at 175... Martinez only weighs in at about 158. I don't see anything wrong with the top comments at all. Sergio could fight a Andre Ward at 165 tho.
@Ateyurock - Im not an expert in boxing, Its what Ive learned since Ive just started boxing, the catchweights are for the promoters job & negotiators. Me Im 5/4 140 & I sparred with a friend who is 5'8 almost 180, he couldnt believe how easily I can sneak my straight right hand in his face & move to his side immediately hes so pissed & frustrated that he demanded me to catch his weight which is so ridiculous. If you were me would you go all the way to 180? Boxing always dont work that way.
@lassedw Margarito was bigger then Sergio is now and he still fought him. To be honest, I don't think Manny is scared for fight Sergio but I DO believe the people around him are. Manny has always had his fights picked for him which he even admitted to. His exact words was "I fight who ever they tell me to fight" Like I said though, I know Manny would want to fight the absolute best but his matches are being cherry picked and they make sure he always has that advantage coming into the ring.

@Ateyurock are you sure about that. I think you might want to double check your facts. Here is a quick history lesson for you. Oscar wanted one more big fight before he retired, he originally wanted to fight Cotto but since he lost to margarito he said no. Margarito was to big and dangerious for him so he picked manny the smaller dude to fight after Larry merchent mentioned it, Oscar was the big star who wanted the fight against what he and most experts would be an easy fight against a tiny dude
I admire martinez for his power and skills. He is the best in the middleweight division. But instead of calling out a former light-flyweight in manny pacquiao, and now fighting out in the welterweight division, which is still 2 wt classes below his fiefdom, i would admire him even more if he calls out any of the klitschko brothers. Martinez should know how to put his money where his mouth is.

Agreed. Looks like Pacquiao's managers are more concerned with easy money than making good fights (which is understandable; Pacquiao doesn't need to prove anything at this point in his career). There's no doubt that Pacquiao is the #1 boxer today, but if he continues to fight pointless fights while Martinez keeps stepping up in competition, Martinez might just take grab that #1 spot. Also, if Mayweather-Martinez happens, then whoever wins that fight could become the #1 boxer.

Floyd vs Sergio would be interesting I dont see anyone else getting even close to floyd not even pacquiao. I think Sergio is the one that has more chance at beating the pound for pound best floyd mayweather.

If Pacquiao is indeed a real junior welterweight, then why isn't Pacquiao-Marquez III at 140 pounds instead of 147? Simple. Pacquiao is stronger at 147 pounds than at 140 pounds. Also, Martinez is a natural 154-pounder and a small middleweight. They're essentially one weight class apart at this point. I don't see how the fight is impossible to be made weight-wise.
@Ateyurock it is manny's right to fight sergio at a catchweight. He is a middleweight who walks around bigger and he wants to fight a smaller guy. If he fought manny, he would win bcos of his size advantage, not bcos of his skill. Sergio should go up in weight and fight bigger guys which wont be as much as a disadvantage bcos he walks around bigger aniways.
Not to down grade Manny but Martinez would easily beat him, and I'm a Mayweather fan also and I think Martinez would beat him too at a certain weight class at 154 call it a toss up, but at 147 for him to fight either Floyd or Manny is bad on his part because both Floyd and Manny are at the best at welter-weight. Floyd has only fought at 154 once against Oscar so I'm worried that Floyd would have big problems at that weight against Martinez, but 147, I have Manny and Floyd being too much!

I am a huge PacMan fan..but to put him in with a guy like Martinez is absurd. Martinez isn't Margarito. PacMan is naturally a smaller man. For some reason people who can't see that have Manny as some mythical fighter who slays dragons for fun. Sergio packs too much power and is as dynamic as anyone. Manny can still get good fights in and around his weight category (that's up to Arum) but shouldn't be included in a Sergio Martinez matchup conversation.
@Ateyurock - 154? does that make any difference? catchweight is a lousy excuse Manny would still whoop Margarito's ass dude, If Manny was at 154 he'll know exactly what to do, flirt in the ropes, wait for Margarito, do a 7 hit combo then move away, go in the center wait for Margarito again, do a 7 hit combo again, & keep on encircling Margarito so that Margarito's focus will always be Manny's head not the body. Margarito fought by heart not by brain, hed still lose Manny at 154.

@lassedw he has more than 40 million argentinians to start selling any of his fights.. is he willing to lose 10 pounds of muscle to fight . If he fights cotto he will beat him up K.O. faster than anyone so I dont se him getting those huge fights with pacman or mayweather
