Cotto didn't beat this guy. Cotto couldn't beat this version of Martinez. Sergio took that fight for money, even knowing he didn't have a chance without healthy knees.
Devilemperor true. Sergio was an ex boxer when he faced cotto. He couldn't even walk normally. But hey, I don't blame Sergio . He earned millions of dollars with that fight.
Not just his knees...Sergio said in an interview he was n constant pain & needed a therapist just to be able to train.
Why was his knees fucked up in the first place?
Can't blame him he's never had a big money fight for whatever reason, so if you've fought for 16 years and it's your last chance to get payed you'd do it also! Btw, I agree that if his knees were good he'd give Cotto a great fight!
@@roarrrist he was an aging fighter by the time he fought Cotto, he picked up boxing late. All of those fights and training sessions take their toll on an old body more so than a young one.

I've developed a lot of respect for referee Arthur Mercanty (sp.?), Jr. 'Very meticulous about his job--he did a great job for this fight. More: I've become a huge Martinez fan since his first fight with Williams. This guy's truly world class.

they continue matching up fighters which is a not interesting one or may be a mismatch.. I hope someday people may have the ability to choose good match up for great boxing fights..

@MrNgnga you are very right. I'm Polish and fact that sergiej is not shown by hbo doesnt mean he isa bum. people forget that boxing is money . Sergiej is one of the most outstanding fighters I've seen . He came from a lower weight category and did better than williams. One of the best technicians nowadays but what can you do when Sergio is a genius.

Good point. Also, Martinez seems to be strong in the opening rounds, weaker in the middle rounds, but gets a second wind in the championship rounds, evidenced by his fights against Pavlik, Williams, and Dzinziruk. Martinez was weaker in the middle rounds during these three fights, but emerged stronger the late rounds.

I wouldn't underestimate Golovkin by his pro opposition, he gets best available ones. If he keeps winning impressively top boxers this year, as he intends, Sergio will have to accept the challenge. We'll see what happens when it comes. I like Sergio's style, just can't imagine his relaxive boxing under GGG pressure.
@ElShylo, I'm referring to a already established Dulorme (prediction), at this stage as only a prospect Dulorme is riduculously skilled, Martinez would have an advantage AT THE MOMENT (keep in mind Dulorme's best days are still way ahead) That being said it's more an advantage of weight versus anything else, again this is a kid with less than 13 pro fights under his belt, he's a multi-dimensional technical boxer/puncher that fights left or right sided, very intelligent, precision reflexes....

I beg to differ. If you observe the way Martinez fights, he more or less uses his right hand as a decoy. When his opponent throws a punch with his right hand or is unprotected on the right side of his body, Sergio clubs that left hand either to the side of the opponent's head or in between the opponent's jaw and neck. Additionally, Martinez moves FORWARD while throwing that left hand, making it a very dangerous weapon.
@zapyoj I can see what you mean but remember that Dzinziruk defended his Light Middleweight title 7 times.
@NJNC12 I agree, like I said I like Martinez, but either you move up or down for a major fight, nothing really at 160 outside of JCCjr, but Bob arum never puts his cash cows in with anything that could cost him really.

This could have just been titled 'Dzinziruk falls for 2 minutes'.
FYI: Pac fought Margarito at catch weight of 150 last November (Sergio is 154). Fireworks of Pac and Sergio are VERY possible if he did that. Margarito weighed 165. Considering Manny graced the 150 weight class, I don't blame Sergio for flirting with that challenge when Bob Arum called him out. Sergio stated in the ring when he KO'd Paul Williams that the fight was not possible because he is too strong and too fast for PAC

What you fail to acknowledge is that when Martinez clocked Williams, the latter's chin wasn't the same afterwards. Heck, even you can see that the Williams who fought Lara that night was NOT the same as the Williams before he fought Sergio Martinez, all because of that one devastating punch.

Where did you get this info? There's video here on youtube of Sergio preparing for Williams rematch where he is 172. I believe he enters the ring with at leat 168-170 (in case of 160 lbs limit)
Why the hell are ppl talking about Pacquiao and Margarito? This is Martinez vs Dzinziruk save that stuff for the Pac and Marg video.

I agree. However, also think that because Martinez goes off-balanced a lot, a well-timed punch from Manny (even with no power) could cause Martinez to have an off-balance knockdown like he did against Williams in their first fight. Martinez has the power edge though, and unlike Margarito who just comes at you, Martinez can move and punch at different angles like Pacquiao. He's essentially a middleweight version of Pacquiao. I pick Martinez by KO or decision in a competitive fight.

If I'm not mistaken, the reason Chavez even got a shot at that belt in the first place is that the sanctioning body stripped Sergio Martinez of it. Martinez thinks that that belt is rightfully his, and I agree with him. Chavez Jr., if you think that you deserve that belt more than Sergio Martinez does, then you have to fight him, and you have to fight him next. Be like your father and rise to the occasion. You're a world champion now. Fight the middleweight king of the world.

people want Cotto to do alot of things but they forget that even tho he went up in wieght, he is still pretty small for the division he is in now. It would be insane for him to go up more. IDK why Cotto is in the wieght class he is in now, he really doesnt fight it, even tho he is trying to.
climbing up in weights and fight bigger guys is more impressive than going down and fight smaller guys..
