What a pleasure it was to watch the season 2 of the Boys, and to work on Homelander.
I never managed to find the inspiration to edit him after the end of S01 but this time, i really wanted to do something for him, as he's absolutely amazing. I also have to mention the exceptional performance of Antony Starr, that i already knew from Banshee. He steal every scene he's in, and he's just incredible.
Hope you will enjoy this video, i'm not sure i managed to do as good as some of my friends did on this character already but i hope it's still enjoyable and Watchmen should be coming pretty soon, i'm already half of it. Anyway, enjoy!

There is a child like naivety to him. The way Madeline controls him sexually. His need of constant affirmation, affection and validation. If black noir had his powers now that's scary mother f***er. There is not way you can reason, bleed mercy , or out run him. He is clinically, methodical. Doesn't play with his food.
@@abdimojo8794 only reason why he comes off like a “child” is because he’s constantly trying to control himself. Yes he never had that motherly figure which is exactly why he doesn’t let loose. Homelander by far is the scariest character, we have no idea when he’s going to explode
@Eren Vaughn to me those examples have one thing in common, palpatine knew he had all his plans blossoming in their twisted beauty. Thanos knew in his heart that no matter the rebuttal, he was the true hero of the story. Homelander? Homelander was a child who was treated like he wasn't good enough, just to get the right result. Palpatine was arrogant. Thanos was pious. Homelander was dead.
@@stingrayyy he comes off like a child because hes emotionally/mentally stunted and he has the maturity of a child, not because hes "trying to control himself" (he is intentionally written like this, the actor himself said that homelander is mentally the weakest out of all the characters). Its actually his lack of maturity and his mental/emotional weaknesses which make him lose control and make him so scary, it results in him often snapping and throwing tantrums like a child, except because of his powers his "tantrums" are really just bloody massacres.

Besides who homelander is , varies so much how you perceive it. But not to confuse anything. Comic homelander is much worse than show adaptation. Maybe writers give him a redemption and you know deal with the actual prick . Wont spoil more now.
Homelander is absolutely incredible, he has become one of my favorite super villains ever, its just so menacing and disturbing, all his actions are disgusting but yet I understand why he's like that and why he does them, it feels like something that would happen, which is one of the things I love about this show is how real it portrays its characters
Tbh never has a hero made me this edge on my seat. His unrestrictive power with the red glow in the dark eyes just makes me shiver.
He has good intentions there. Not pure evil. But total chaotic. He's suffering from identity crisis, loneliness and mania.

Probably the thing I like most about Homelander is that he's exactly the kind of superhero that the real life US would just eat up. It really surprises me that there doesn't seem to be a subculture of online weirdos who worship him like there is with the joker
Homelander, The Master, Ben Linus, Wilson Fisk, Gus Fring, Trinity Killer, Kilgrave and Negan are the best tv villains.
Antony Starr was made to play Homelander he fucking kills it so hard. He is like RDJ with Iron Man and Henry Cavill with Superman. He is Homelander.

rarely is there a villain thats is so unnerving, terrifying, uncomfortable, yet understandable as Homelander. massive props to the writing team, but I think we all know that Anthony Starr deserves some mfing awards for this. god damn. the most chilling villain performance ive seen since Heath played the Joker

What makes him disturbing is that he does not seem to know he is a villain. It is absolutely probable that he just can't see it, sort of like a psychosis with an absolute fixation on something to the exclusion of all else.

This rendition of Homelander is so precisely chilling, that he genuinely makes me so uncomfortable. He's brilliantly written and possibly in my top 10 villian list.
I think if I limit the scope to comic book adaptations I can definitely say that Homelander is somewhere in the top 10 and pretty high up there at that
Truly especially since he’s categorized as a hero yet is actually a villain. While it’s fine to see the stereotypical heroes vs villains sometimes like Marvel or DC. Stories where the heroes who save the day are actually awful scumbags is truly a sight to see and put a deeper perspective on humanity on these villainess heroes.
Like can you imagine seeing a alternative reality that the Avengers are heroes but have awful personalities. It would make me actually root for Loki to taking them down.

Killgrave and Joker felt real in their insanity just as homelander does, bane is more of a simplistic "bad guy". His character is so fascinating from a psychology perspective, it’s an example of how sociopathy can be caused by childhood conditioning methods such as high standards and lack of emotional care. Trying to force someone into the exact persona of the “perfect superhero” archetype from the moment they were born is psychologically going to fuck them up inevitably, especially when you take maternal and paternal love out of the equation. Not to mention Anthony’s portrayal of this type of individual is SPOT ON, he really does deserve an Emmy. The dead smile, emotionless eyes, body language, false persona, ego, it’s all right out of psychology profile textbooks and it’s incredible acting.

It is mentioned in season 2 that Stillwell little child actually survived. I am not sure how many of you paid attention to this detail, but it actually makes Homelander ever more complicated.
They could’ve switched the baby with a random one though...because of possible media outrage.
If you’re looking for something redeemable about him, homelander at least looked like he cared about his son, possibly still does.
Though part of it was because it was HIS son that was also gifted with HIS powers. Like many sociopaths he loves himself in a narcissistic way. His son is an extention of himself, who loved his dad for about 20 minutes 🤠💔...Poor child.
Btw, do you remember how homelander looked and talked of stillwell’s baby in the beginning of S1? Absolute hatred lmao 😅

Anthony Starr let's just say it, he has just stepped onto the higher platform of actors who stand above. Always very good good in roles eg. Banshee. Now though, he literally disappears into the character. I mean c'mon is there any holes in his performance? Want me to fear him? Check! Want me to hate him? Check! Want me to feel remorse for him? Check! Want me to empathize with him? Check! Want me be engaged by him? Check! Want me to be humored by him? Check! Want me to feel uncomfortable and uncertain for him? Check! Want me to see him reaching truly for his son while letting go of his guard? Done!
He is a very tragic hero, guy who was destroyed by the ones who created him, I hope they are gonna give him some justice next season, because hughie, starligh butcher do not come to as candy heroes to be honest
I doubt that he gets a redemption arc, up until now was probably the "origins" story to his madness and evil. Makes sense since a 5 season long evil (and active) Homelander is unsustainable

I actually feel sry for the Character Homelander ... kinda the secret victim in the boys at the same time. Think about it at the end of the day he just gets used by the society to make money and solve their problems and is not truely loved by anybody... He did not ask to be created as Homelander to never know what a family is and when he was about to form a family it gets taken away from him.
Edit: Even when you think of Stormfront and his son they must seem a disappointment to Homelander... Stormfront ever only loved „Frederik Vought“ and even talks about him in German when she is about to die... she only used him to built her Master race and his son he tried to show and give the love to he never recieved by his own decides to stick to his worst enemy... even his ex girlfriend blackmails him in the end... can it actually get any worse at this point? No wonder he will turn insane in S3 and become the true evil supervillain after he realises that he will never be loved no matter how hard he „tries“
How can he when he see himself a God that is above mudpeople. He far past unredeemable now with all the suffering he cause. While I do pity him of his past since he was raise with no loving human interaction but scientists who saw him nothing more than a lab rat doesn’t really excuse his actions.
He already sign his death warrant long ago and he probably won’t think he’ll die since he believe to be ‘invincible’ it’s inevitable that he’ll die either like in the comics or not. Who knows...
