There are some days that the chorus just gets me, and today those kids got me good. This is one of the most beautiful accomplishments in PS22 Chorus history -- from the genuine heartfelt performance of the kids, to the precision of harmonies, to Brielle's beautiful soloing. Today I am an extremely proud music teacher.....
The song is "I'll Stand By You," originally by The Pretenders, and written by Chrissy Hynde, Tom Kelly & Billy Steinberg. I'm not sure it's ever been more potent than it is as presented here. The entire fifth grade will be singing this at PS22's graduation which comes in only a couple of weeks. I predict not a dry eye....
Super huge congrats to the kids, who earned the Webby Award for Artist of the Year in 2010, joining the ranks of will.i.am and The Beastie Boys as recipients for this honor! The kids will be receiving their award on June 14th. Stay tuned for more on that!
I watched this video every single day after finding out my mom had cancer in the 8th grade. Now going into 11th, I'll never forget the strength this beautiful talent gave me.

Solo girl makes chills from head to toe on me...he voice and talent are amazing! Something tells me that God and Jesus are going to want to hear her sing in concert in heaven when this big show on earth is over.

I'm a sophmore in High school, and we watched this video. It brought tears to my eyes. she also showed us that we need to bring out our diction, tone, and to sing like we mean it. My mother was around and much younger for the original version and after watching and hearing that performance...we're having a very tough day family-wise and I could see she was holding back tears. She said that far far better than Christy Hynde's original. I'm not sure there's a bigger compliment.

Go Kids! Go Music Teacher! As professional singer, music educator and choral director (adult & children) glad to see each glimmer of hope for music ed. Fortunate enough to have raised kids in a town where we did pay rather high taxes but one of the best music ed programs in the country, Belmont,Ma.
