As you enter the dungeon, you get like 60 or 70 stress damage instantly since they are lvl 2 The trick is to use the self stress heals of the abominations and the party stress heal of the houndmaster, and pass the round on only one of your hero to get him to 100 stress If the guy that get 100 stress has the 2 virtuous trinkets (+50% virtuous chance in total), then he will most likely become virtuous Then you leave the fight, making sure that no one else will hit 100 stress doing so, and you swap the virtuous trinket on another hero and repeat the scenario, until all your heroes are virtuous You can do that on the first battle because the enemies only have self heal and guard, so you don't take damage
Holy shit This video is 3 years old now. Most of the stuff here got reworked by now so this speedrun is not possible to do anymore. A shame, really. But its even more unique and amazing now.

@@diegoivan685 Maybe. For me the game just stops being fun at late mid-game. Late game is a horribly grindy sand trap to get comps fit enough for attempts at the darkest dungeon.
Also those two rapturous cultists will summon reinforcements if you stall the fight for too long, even if you have reinforcements turned off in the settings, so you can't virtue-scum with them anymore.
@@thewolfofthestars1847 I mean there is an actual virtue scumming method now where you exit the game at the right moment and it resets right before it rolls the virtue. You can now without any set-up reroll virtues until you get one you like. The trick is to exit to the menu right as the virtue/affliction is show on the screen. It has a pretty forgiving timer and I have also done it on Ps4 so it works probably everywhere.
Tom van Dalen I used this same strategy when one of my heroes was hit with three crit attacks in the first turn. I like losing heroes if they died a glorious death, but that was too cheesy.
I believe walking back and forth between two "squares" in a corridor removes duration on debuffs (5:30). You just need to enter a new square for it to lose duration. It's very useful from the Cove debuff.
tbh it's only working because he is exploiting the complete oversight by the devs that is the two guys without attack skills. He doesn't even have to succeed all virtue rolls, as you can destress to zero on these broken encounters.
Being "good" at this game is simply knowing and taking advantage of gameplay mechanics like he's doing. It's not like you can't also do this. Play the game how you want and don't let videos like this make you feel bad.
what bothers me the most is that the devs are trying to make it "more challenging" by introducing these horrible difficulty spikes, yet all they managed to do is to cater to those players who tend to workaround and exploit mechanical seams and crannies without any enjoyment whatsoever. I was one of the early backers and was turned away with the state of its design in the following years, simply because I've found the gameplay thoroughly appalling the last couple of times I tried it. you simply have to invest too much time in metagame research, to minmax everything, to make the best of everything, crew, trinkets, levels, and now even this tactical sanity exploit bullshit. nah, pass. it's either a bad game design or a bad product design. if it's a bad game design, it's because they cannot fix the balance without introducing 1) more grinding, 2) more punishment, and/or 3) more addictive incentives for the compulsive play-to-win min-max-everything mentality. if it's a bad product design, it's because they invested so much money in things that are completely overlooked by their now-typical playerbase. it's played like a goddamn sport, there is no experience, no soul, just number crunching.
Meanwhile i am teetering on the edge of defeat with lvl 6 party members, literally having one girl deny death 6 times which granted me pyrrhic victory as i have lost lvl 6 vestal, and thank the Light it was just one champion. Literally full party, heavy of carrying best trinkets one can have, on Radiant difficulty, yet i hardly managed to win. Feelsbad.
Oh, just so we are clear, i am talking only about the first step into the Darkest Dungeon, i have only beat the Shuffling Horror yet, didn't get any further so... Yeah...
Second DD is probably where most people left the game lol. But I got defeated by DD3, because it is not so easily cheesed now (rip plague doctor), and it was so damn unlucky - the cyst had 2 hp left, but then a couple of misses, a couple of skipped turns by my fucking occultist - and rip party, and as a result - rip my bloodmoon playthrough. On darkest tho it was so free :D I just got level 6 guys with great trinkets and it was a cakewalk :D
I learned some tricks and comps from this video, also you deserved huge respect from community. Great work, almost unbelievable! But this 40-60 rounds of sustain... Man, that's so nolife-y.
After watching the video with 3000% speed, I honestly felt there was something wrong with my brain during the Heart fight when you turned the cheat off. It was so slow!
Well, this is outdated now - 2 enemies trigger stalling penalties - party-wide stress and reinforcements. The only ones who do not trigger such penalties are 2-size enemies. So at 1:05 after like 2-3 turns those cultists will get a nice company.
Stall detection got changed, it now detects if you use too many heals and too little attacks a turn, not time spent. This allows you to stall even on single Raptorous encounters now.

I have 250 hours in this game on steam, double that time for when i played in offline. Yesterday i tried to start bloodmoon walktrough, got to week 14 and havent gotten even close to what this guy have in beginning of this video. Today, i saw this video and understood that i dont know shit about this game. Also im generaly got a depression from realising this.

In my opinion stalwart and Courageous can be useful for farmstead but also could be good with stress heal although stalwart I agree with it is only for one person and not the party but stress heal is also good in DD missions especially if they are lvl 2’s best person to have stalwart on is a stress targeted person or jester.
back when he did this, heatattacks didnt exist and stress 200 breakdowns (ie losing virtues) didnt exist either... a lot of mechanics were heavily changed since he did this shenanigans
There is a way how to get 4th torch trinket for scnd part of darkest dungeon... if you fail for first time and your hero carring torch dies while you retreat, you get torch back and another from shrieker event
I think I could make it a week or two shorter with the curse. I also think that the first three quests are doable with L2 heroes and the last one with L3 heroes. I can't be bothered with the RNG anymore though.
Not now, it wouldn't. If your virtuous hero reaches 100 stress again, it deletes and he becomes regular - and once again has to pass a resolve check should he reach 100 stress again.
Tried doing this, my experience was slighty different: Houndmaster got afflicted despite having 70% of getting virtuous. 2 priests always spawned at turn 4 and stress became really difficult to manage. 2 abominations became virtuous and 1 manage to pull of the same as houndmaster. Eventually houndmaster had a heart attack and I had to cut my losses and escaped. 2 lvl 6 heroes lost and 2 trinkets gone and didn't even clear the first fight.
yea... you cant stall like this without doing a certain level of damage per turn if the game senses you're healing more than half a turn... they patched a LOT after this guys crazy runs showed all the holes in their game code... no more cheese
@@brayachdragonbane7529 which has left the darkest dungeon an unbearably boring slog in the late game. Also going in blind is pretty much impossible nowadays since devs kinda expect you to know every mechanics before you make an attempt. Whole game is mostly fun but late game is s#it.
@@olaf5929 late game in van DD is pretty painful... though theres so many mods to mix things up and make it feel like a brand new game... for a long time i LOVED playing with the hard earned districts and upgraded districts mods with some class and zone mods..

It would of been great to see the other weeks too. I am sure it took allot of rng to set up but still... Also, the game speed is speeded up, so it's either modded, or your talking first person on pre-recorded gameplay. Doing something difficult with modded gameplay, it's not legit because who knows what else you have to help you

I believe he saved to only upgrade the nomad wagon and the stage coach, used his money to only buy trinkets, and killed shamblers to get ancestors trinkets
The leper can be the best character if you make a strategy for him. Hes my go to damage dealer for most bosses, he only needs a jester and the fight is done.
In the cyst fight, wouldn't it be possible to kill the stalk with Iron Swan if the dagger crit isn't enough to one shot? (I mean hit cyst with the Grave robber and the stalk with the Hellion)
Yeah Iron Swan crit would have been enough for a kill. I kind of like her bleeding out the Cyst though. I could've just used Weapons Practice so GR would oneshot WCS lol. I've made quite a few mistakes there, but thankfully DDQ3 is laughable.
I have 2 questions: 1. Can you lose the game playing the bloodmoon dungeon? 2. If i win stygian mode or Bloodmoon mode does the hero death limit or difficulty still remain or can i even continue playing the saved game?
That's crazy dude. But how you managed to get Ancestral Trinkets in less than 13 weeks ? It took me like 60 weeks in Darkest to get one ... Did you use some mods ? And how you managed to get the exact roster you want in so less time ?
You can get Shambler trinkets very early, it depends on how brave (foolish) you are. The roster was far from optimal and it took a lot of files to get the heroes I had.

No, the first 2 other adventurers you get are always a vestal and a plague doctor.

This doesn't work anymore, because reaching 200 stress while virtuous resets your stress and removes the virtue.

Save up crests and upgrade wagon size as much as you can when nomad unlocks. Then it's smooth sailing.

Vitor Samuel you can farm lower dungeons just fine with around 20k each mid to long dungeon on apprentice level dungeons.

I think I could make it a week or two shorter with the curse. I also think that the first three quests are doable with L2 heroes and the last one with L3 heroes. I can't be bothered with the RNG anymore though.

Not now, it wouldn't. If your virtuous hero reaches 100 stress again, it deletes and he becomes regular - and once again has to pass a resolve check should he reach 100 stress again.
@@GoodRogue not 100, but 200. Instead of a heart attack, you get your stress to 0, and your virtue removed
Tried doing this, my experience was slighty different:
Houndmaster got afflicted despite having 70% of getting virtuous.
2 priests always spawned at turn 4 and stress became really difficult to manage. 2 abominations became virtuous and 1 manage to pull of the same as houndmaster.
Eventually houndmaster had a heart attack and I had to cut my losses and escaped.
2 lvl 6 heroes lost and 2 trinkets gone and didn't even clear the first fight.
yea... you cant stall like this without doing a certain level of damage per turn if the game senses you're healing more than half a turn... they patched a LOT after this guys crazy runs showed all the holes in their game code... no more cheese
@@brayachdragonbane7529 which has left the darkest dungeon an unbearably boring slog in the late game. Also going in blind is pretty much impossible nowadays since devs kinda expect you to know every mechanics before you make an attempt. Whole game is mostly fun but late game is s#it.
@@olaf5929 late game in van DD is pretty painful... though theres so many mods to mix things up and make it feel like a brand new game...
for a long time i LOVED playing with the hard earned districts and upgraded districts mods with some class and zone mods..
@@brayachdragonbane7529 I agree. But imo late game does not encourage you to keep going, instead it really sucks the life out of an already difficult game. Especially after tweaks that made the last parts of DD super hard.

It would of been great to see the other weeks too. I am sure it took allot of rng to set up but still... Also, the game speed is speeded up, so it's either modded, or your talking first person on pre-recorded gameplay. Doing something difficult with modded gameplay, it's not legit because who knows what else you have to help you

I believe he saved to only upgrade the nomad wagon and the stage coach, used his money to only buy trinkets, and killed shamblers to get ancestors trinkets

Hmm ... The leper is actually really good imo. Most health and most damage in the game
The leper can be the best character if you make a strategy for him. Hes my go to damage dealer for most bosses, he only needs a jester and the fight is done.

In the cyst fight, wouldn't it be possible to kill the stalk with Iron Swan if the dagger crit isn't enough to one shot? (I mean hit cyst with the Grave robber and the stalk with the Hellion)
Yeah Iron Swan crit would have been enough for a kill. I kind of like her bleeding out the Cyst though. I could've just used Weapons Practice so GR would oneshot WCS lol. I've made quite a few mistakes there, but thankfully DDQ3 is laughable.

what mod are u using for faster combat ? and how u disable it at later battle?
I have 2 questions:
1. Can you lose the game playing the bloodmoon dungeon?
2. If i win stygian mode or Bloodmoon mode does the hero death limit or difficulty still remain or can i even continue playing the saved game?

But how you managed to get Ancestral Trinkets in less than 13 weeks ? It took me like 60 weeks in Darkest to get one ... Did you use some mods ?
And how you managed to get the exact roster you want in so less time ?
You can get Shambler trinkets very early, it depends on how brave (foolish) you are. The roster was far from optimal and it took a lot of files to get the heroes I had.
Is this sort of speed run even possible with how the game is now? Anyone know of a more recent speed run? curious
