1 Leper vs the Final Boss

- Leper can not only one-shot the final boss, he can also one-man it.
This took so many attempts it hurts just thinking about. To give an idea of the RNG at play here, if Leper gets afflicted at any point in this fight the run is over, there's no way for him to heal off the stress fast enough. It took around ~40 tries to get the perfect run, but it was worth it in the end.
I love the idea of Leper sacrificing himself and facing the eldritch horror on his own so others don't have to suffer. It's beautifully poetic.
To all those who were saying or about to say "this is modded/cheated run":
1. Read the description of the video. He said it took him more than 40 Lepers to succeed.
2. Base Virtue Chance is 25%. The Hero's Ring trinket adds 25% to that. I didn't see his Quirks, but Irrepressible may be in there. That's another 5%. There's no Valiant Spirit Town Event (15% Virtue Chance) so the total chance to get a Virtue is minimum 50%, maximum 55%.
3. Color of Madness DLC added a new mechanic in which Virtuous characters can still get stressed to 200. If they do, the character loses the Virtue and the Stress Meter goes back to 0.
4. When the above happens, a character can get stressed to 100 again and another Virtue check happens. He explained that in some of his tries he gets unlucky and the Leper got afflicted, which is pretty much game over for that try.
5. This is the only run in which the Leper succeeded 3 Virtue Checks out of 40+. Pretty fascinating, and honestly not that hard to achieve. Every time he loses his Virtue and goes to 100 stress again, he has at least 50% chance to get Virtuous. You can easily make that 70% if you lock the quirk Irrepressible and do the dungeon with Valiant Spirit Town Event active. All of you can do this yourselves if you have the patience to grind a lot of Lepers.
Pinning this so people might hopefully get the answers they're looking for, seeing as how nobody bothers to read the description.
Someone in the comments asked for a screenshot of the leper used in the video. This was some time ago, but thankfully I still have the screenshot. (He got perfectionist and steady after killing the final boss, how fitting) cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/453299613903093762/676550881306607617/unknown.png
His quirks aren't the best, mainly because I stopped caring after having to level up the 30th leper from lvl 0 to lvl 6 only to have him die in less than a minute.
To further clarify the Leper in this video does not have Irrepressible and using Shard Dust to refresh your moves gives you a -10% virtue chance debuff that lasts the entire duration of the quest. So his virtue chance is actually 40%. You can give him a Tentacle Idol to further boost it to 60%, but I didn't have it at the time because I had lost it in a previous failed attempt.
Speaking of failed attempts, if you ever wanted to make yourself hate a video game this is the perfect challenge to do it with. As mentioned previously, some of the failed attempts aren't even a minute long because what would happen is they'd get afflicted and get a heart attack all in 3-4 turns. There's no way to outheal the stress if you get afflicted and no way to kill the enemies fast enough to speed through the 1st phase. Secondly, virtues can and will be lost throughout the duration of the fight, especially during phase 2 where the Ancestor can just decide to hide in the back and spam Embrace Futility over and over. Meaning you have to gamble on another resolve check.
Not all of the 40 attempts involved virtues, at first I tried builds that focused more on killing the clones faster with Hew, but those attempts would always end the same way, dying to stress and bleeding out.
None of what's going on in the video is impossible, nor is it difficult to pull off, it's just slamming your head against a brick wall until it eventually gives.
If anyone has any further questions they're free to ask me.
Edit: 11/25/2020
An option I wasn't aware of at the time was the ability to stack -stress received buffs from having the character pray in the Abbey. This reduces the amount of stress the leper takes down to ~2-3 and could allow for a more aggressive approach without having to worry about stress piling up. I am planning on remaking this video in the near future. Hopefully the new approach will be more consistent.

As far as battling twisted infracorporeal entities who control matter, and mind to some extent, the leper fighting the heart of darkness is as canon as it can be, since he has nothing to lose, not even his life as it's soon over anyway, not his memories as he's suffered all life long, not his body or form as his flesh is decaying, and his mind cannot be broken, since he "understands that adversity and existence are one and the same". Meaning lovecraftian horrors have next to nothing on him, aside from brute force.
The scariest opponent is one that has nothing to lose.
And even then, it's shown here that brute force is the least effective way to fell him.

and for that,i respect him
A very darksoul like hero.
His comic reminds me of Ashitaka, from Princess Mononoke. Some sort of prince banished from his land because of a disease, and trying to find purpose before it consumes him.
If I remember correctly, he was a very well loved king, but became afflicted with leprosy. He self exiled to protect his people from the disease.
Technically, the main killer of leprosy is that it kills the nerves, allowing people to far more easily wound themselves and not know it. A rat can chew off your pinky toe and if you don't look down you simply wouldn't notice it, which would later lead to untreated infections and bleeding. So really he'd be rotting, but he wouldn't really feel much pain.

But youtube man say leper bad. How leper not be literally useless?
Cascading effect.Normally you are not lucky enough not to worry about stress, which is what kills Leper comps. Moreover a Leper alone is better than a Leper in a team, because he can't get shuffled out of position. What usually happens with Lepers is that they end up,trying to constantly move forward, your party gets afflicted, enemy damage dealers stay alive to crit your squishy heroes to zero and when he finally reaches second position, his attack gets dodged. In a normal team,he can be a very serious liability to your dungeon run.Besides the last Darkest Dungeon, there's really no suitable location for the Leper's drawbacks not to be mitigated. On the regular content at least.
youtube man forgets to equip movement resist trinkets and heroes with skills that move them back (allowing leper to reach front faster without wasting more turns)
@@user-25352 that's called opportunity cost.Move resist means no extra damage, dodge,hp or prot.It also doesn't mitigate surprise shuffles and does not change move resist of other champions.Move resist trinkets are the most useless ones in game, because they can be entirely bypassed by the enemy mobs(example;MaA cannot be easily pushed back, but your backline Vestal will get easily pulled forth).Have 3 sets of heavy boots if you can, your vestal and jester would still be pulled ahead of your leper.

I guess with the quirk it would be 25% and 12.5%, still kinda insane, not even counting having everything else in the fight go right (dmg, accuracy, ancestor moving into attack range)
Your math is a little off. The base virtue chance is 25%, he has a ring for +25%, the quirk gives another 15%, and there's also a town event for 15% more. That's an 80% potential virtue chance, totaling out to 51,2% chance of 3 virtue procs in a row. Not too bad if you think about it.
@@georgiykireev9678 well the one who played this did said he retried this 40-50 times to get this run.
I had the virtue chance quirks locked in on some of the previous lepers, but even there's no guarantee they'll get virtues.
It was just a matter of me bashing my head against the wall until it eventually broke.
@@thickveinysausage3062 I see. How many men does it take to chop down a god.

So just to be clear, is this a situation where quad leper would have worked as well?
Yup. Already done it with quad leper.

I thought fourtwoflow was the best player but right now i have to reconsider
You can't imagine how big of compliment that is. Fourtwoflow is the person who got me into Darkest Dungeon :D
When your leper got 200 stress all of this stress went away and he lost his virtue what caused that
If hero got virtue, 200 stress doesn't give him Heart attack, instead 200 stress fade out and hero is no longer virtuous
Ok thx for telling me that I was cofused
@Carlub its actually a new mechanic that came with the colors of madness patch, before that when going virtuous, you were pretty much immune to stress buildup
@@Infernalicon wait, does that mean if i don't play with CoM, my stress won't build up or it's a base game patch?
