    I was advised to "read memoirs" before I started mine. I have some memoirs in my library so I thought I'd read enough. Pete Hamill and Frank McCourt are a couple of my favorites, but it had been years since I read either. I thought I should get current on memoirs so I read Anne Lamott and a couple of others. My understanding of memoir changed. "Read some memoirs" is the single best piece of advice I can give to memoir writers. Thank you.

      How right you are, Charles. It does change how you understand what a memoir is and how to write one yourself.

    What is tall poppies syndrome?

    • @BrendaSmitJames
      @BrendaSmitJames  2 года назад +2

      Too tall poppy syndrome is the concept that we must all be the same height and no-one can stand above the crowd. If you do, you will be cut down to size with everyone else again. Essentially, we don't want to see someone succeed in a way that they stand out from the rest of us.

      Reminds me of "collectivism" like certain cultures that brainwashed entire populations with that garbage
      Thankfully you and I are celebrated individuals who are free to write about our lives. ❤️❤️❤️

    Not your best video. I waited for you to tell us the 7 mistakes. The video was more a stream of consciousness than an instructive piece.

      @StevenSheltonAuthor Thank you for your feedback. I listened again to the video and I can see why you say that. Although I have the memoir mistakes numbered and listed in the description below the video, I haven't done the same thing in the video itself. And I didn't make the mistakes directly clear. I think I will have to shift the focus of the title, subtitle and the thumbnail for the video to make it more relevant. Thanks again!

      @BrendaSmitJames I watched the video on the TV while cooking. On that platform, we can't see the description below. Don't get me wrong. I love your videos.
