Thank you so much for preparing useful videos. Could you please share your prespective about word choice in professional writing? How do email writers consider word choice? How do your clients develop word choice for writing?
Thanks for your question. Sometimes, email writers can choose their words by thinking about their reader. This video shows quickly how thinking of our reader can help us make writing choices: ruclips.net/user/shortsDM3dUTLAycE Also, for professional writing, we usually find less theory and more practical information. So, writers would use more practical words vs more theoretical words. For example: - More academic: As past societies have often found, implementing changes in an economic system can require decades of analysis and application. - More professional: Just like in the past, today's societies face obstacles when adapting their economic systems.
Thank you! And thanks for your question. Here are a couple good options for that revision, each bringing the reader's focus to something/someone specific: - We need [Document B] to complete your file. (focuses on our needs) - Please submit [Document B] to complete your file. (focuses on their action) - Your file needs X and Y to be up-to-date. (focuses on the task at hand-the file) It's basically a combo of leading with Who+What, to make the writing concise, and then choosing who/what to spotlight. Here's a recent video on that idea of spotlighting btw! :) ruclips.net/video/FO6aMWmtv9Q/видео.html
Hi James, that's a fantastic question and I wanted to answer right away in case you're working on your essay this weekend. If you are specifically writing an academic essay, you may want to use this video instead: ruclips.net/video/vxVyoYAPyOc/видео.html. But, a few things to consider... So... it really depends on both the topic/subject and the instructor/rubric. This video about getting right to the point absolutely applies in business writing, emailing-and essays/papers if you're in a business degree program. But, it will depend if you're writing an essay for humanities or something instead. Many instructors will want you to create a longer intro that gives background and leads to the topic. Personally, I think all writing could get to the point quickly. But, in academics, sometimes the instructors have different goals for the paper, depending on the topic. Do you have a rubric for this essay? If so, does it say anything specific about how to do your intro?
@HighValueWriting Thank you so much for the quick response :) I failed at school due to untreated ADHD however I've recently been diagnosed and I'm on medication. I have always dreamed of going to university to study modern languages. Now medicated I hope to do an access diploma in September in psychology and sociology to do so. However I first need to learn how to structure an essay using the PETAL Structure before doing so. Using RUclips videos and chatgpt I am doing mock essays to improve. This was the reason for my question :)
Hi @JamesEdward-v9d and thanks for the added info. So true, schools didn't recognize many of the factors making learning hard back in the day. Congrats on getting ready to pursue your diploma! Also, psych and sociology are so interesting. TBH, in those fields, you may have some instructors who do want concise, more business-oriented writing; it depends. A couple ideas: - Here's a full overview on writing essays: ruclips.net/video/IW5pxWX4mFs/видео.html - This video on writing a certain kind of essay for the GED might also apply in some of what you're doing: ruclips.net/video/0EgimD-HRuM/видео.html Best wishes and good luck! We're always here if you run into other questions. :)
@@HighValueWriting Thank you ever so much for the encouragement and links I truly appreciate it 🙏 and I will do so - I hope you have a wonderful weekend! 😊
Thanks so much, Dave; glad to meet you here at the channel! We have LOTS of videos on keeping things brief; here's a new one from last Friday: ruclips.net/video/drCOOQqmwt4/видео.html Thanks for your comment!
Funny beginning 🤣. I can't wait to go write and implement your teachings. 🙏🏽
🤪🤪 Sounds great! New video (on using bullets) posting within the hour!
Just watched the vid. Sooo good! 🙏🏽
Just rewatched this vid. Does this method apply outside business writing...say, creative writing?
@@bathos22 This is one of my favorite videos too. 😊
You explain things in such a concise and straightforward way.
Thank you, Kathryn; I truly appreciate that! 😄
I feel this is the sort of thing that, once you see it you can never unsee. All my future readers thank you (as do I)
Ha ha yeah, that’s a great point. Once we know the slow intro isn’t helpful, we’re pretty much done with that habit. 😅
Once "What the Fluff?!?!" rings in our minds... it's hard to forget. :)
Great comment, thanks!

I love how concise your content is!
Thanks so much, Noah! I appreciate that because I always worry: What if I make a video about getting to the point, and then I kind of don't?!? 😆
She’s stunning and informative. Great advice, thanks. Will implement this.
Glad to hear the advice resonated, @VKjkd! Let me know how it goes when you try out the strategy! 🤗
Great videos! So how do we rewrite the example given "This is to inform..to complete tour file"? Thanks

Thank you! I am learning to write articles, and this was super helpful. I love how you demonstrated this.
I'm glad to hear it, Doreen. I agree that looking at the beginning of our sentences will be super helpful for writing articles!
Is this appliable to an essay??)
