Thank you for explaining this method. I share this video with my friends who are first time writers.

Kim from Maine. Thank you so much for this presentation. I have been stuck for so very long, and this has been very helpful!

I really enjoyed listening to this although at times I did find it a little hard to follow-particularly the information about 'brackets', I will have a listen to it again today.

I really enjoyed this presentation. My memoir is a collection of short stories about teaching abroad in seven different countries. I can't put my epiphany in the middle of the bracket. The book starts with the epiphany in the first story where I change work industries. The core topic is restlessness, which is discovered in the first story. The stories cover 17 years until I find a calming person to be with and a comfortable place to be.

This was useful, but I am writing a family saga about my own family. So it's not just about me but about the generations that led to me. I would like to see a tutorial on this kind of family memoir that is about more than just the author's life experience.

I'm doing the same, it's more of a legacy, but there's learning and drama along the way. The style she's talking about is to write a memoir like it's fiction - what we're writing is not the same. It also feels too commercial to me and as an artist, the structure feels limiting to the creative way my mind works. I'm not that kind of thinker. But I get it - it's a simple method to write a short clear cut, easier to sell story.
For me I don't care about tons of sales, I just want to tell the story of my life and what helped shape it from my parents and grandparents - to abuse - to healing and what I learned. It's for my grandkids.
So, I'm self-publishing. I have my title and I'm using a painting that's a fave of people who love my art as the cover.

I just watched the very end where someone asked about a braided memoir - which is kind of what i'm doing - and I love that she said, - I'm paraphrasing - 'You don't need a complicated structure to tell a very powerful story.'
Good luck to you. on your family saga!

@@1TigerJo I am almost finished my 2 nd book, and close to publishing an autobiography, but connecting in many early generations.. I am retired and was a pilot and airline manager for most of my life. I decided not to move into a personalized fiction, I wanted to keep the family identification.

I am doing something similar but have stayed away from fiction.
