Not a tutorial in using the software. Dude, I have just learned more in the first 8 mins than I have when watching tutorial vids. That Intersecting filter with the graduated light luminosity Thing was amazing! Didn’t even know that was a thing! As always Nigel, fantastic work!
It’s been so long since I’ve viewed your videos. Some channels get buried even with alerts on. But this video is exactly why I subscribed long ago. You are a great communicator besides being a masterful artist. 🙏🏼
Really enjoyed te processing applied todo your photo. The creative use of filters to enhance or reduce parts of the image. Yes, this is a great masterclass. Thanks, Arturo, Madrid
Your videos have challenged me so much in regards to how I compose and edit photos. Thank you for these. I’m finally feeling pushed to do better with simple tips that I’ve been trying one or two at a time. I really appreciate what you’re teaching.
dude...you are the goat. i love watching and learning from your vids. thanks for staying away from explaining the bare basics that everyone else does. i'm pretty advanced in LR and avoided all the "tutorials" for the last LR update, but i'm beyond stoked to see you going over stuff above & beyond
This is so much better than the majority of the new tools tutorials that I've seen, especially on how to us them for Landscapes. When I updated and tried them I was slightly underwhelmed by the select sky and subject. Yours is a much better explanation on how to use them.
Holy mask info!!!! I had no idea about the intersecting and crossing different masks. This is genius and I finally (sorta) understand how you make the skies so glowy and wonderful.
I learnt more in 10 minutes of your video than I did in watching many others. So well done Nigel. I have found my editing skills have improved no end by watching a master. Thank you. My vocabulary off choice words will now diminish since this new update. You helped me make sense of it. Thank you.
Really enjoy your approach to instruction Nigel. Joining you on your work flow and thought process was a great experience, very insightful and impactful. Thank you Well done!
Thank you for going through what you make of the new masking tools in Lightroom. Visited a forest with my Dad yesterday for a Photography day out, managed to get some in before the rain and high winds today. Just need to go through them now.
Great video...love it. Just to let you know I was paying attention, there seems to be something, rust-like or reddish in the water right-hand lower corner. This video is a a big help with the new additions to LR.
Thank you, Nigel! I was so lost with the new updates even after I watched the tutorial video from Adobe. Your video helped me understand what Adobe's own tutorials couldn't. Appreciate the content!
I use camera raw just because I was using it before Lightroom was really a thing. This tutorial was great. I was confused on the new layout but you made it easy. I have learned more about camera raw (pretty identical to lightroom) from you. I learned so many things I didnt know about just watching a handful of your tutorials. I would give yourself more credit on your presentations. Thanks so much for all the free learning. Your woodlands are my favorite!
Just updated mine yesterday after watching this... its an absolute game changer for my fishing photography so I don't get the overspill from the gradients... Cheers man...AP
G’day Nigel,, thanks again for another great video.. I’m a very new user to LrC, so all your ‘help’ videos around it are fantastic and have been a great help to me. Also, you mentioned at the start of the video that you ‘weren’t very good at technical/app tutorials’ or something to that effect, however I have to say, that your simplistic explanations, obvious passion for the art and overall video ‘style’, make your tutorials in fact, very understandable and easy to digest. Thank you and I look forward to your next one… 👍🏽
…just went back and watched this again as there was a lot to take in..and (re)discovered the part you covered on ‘colourising’ 6:04 … wow,, very helpful..thanks again.
Oh wow that is incredible! I have learned so much too - another fantastic video thank you very much. I am going to have to go through and re-work some pictures now - all good practice.
First time watching and love your style and candor on what this video provides as well as what it doesn't provide - also that the sky option isn't always the best. Refreshing sensibility.
Thank you for demonstrating some of the new tools in Lightroom. I kind of freaked out when I saw the changes and realized I would be needing some instruction. Would love for you to do a few more editing videos, as they are very helpful. I am an admirer of your photo style and absolute love your images. You’re a master of woodland photography.
Many thanks Nigel. One of your videos I think I will return to a great deal. Looks like a good night for sunset tonight down here at Land's End, may get something t work on....
Great video again Nigel, interesting understanding the new lightroom tools going to put them into use now I've watched your video on it always gives a great understanding when watching your videos am more likely to understand your videos compared to other creators. thanks again Nigel.
This was so useful, thank you. I was using the new tools for the first time last Sunday night and thinking “I hope Nigel does a video on this soon”. Then I looked at what your latest video was and found you’d done it already! You are underselling yourself massively by the way. I have learned SOO much from your videos about how to use Lightroom in landscape photography, and especially the filters.
Your comment on wanting to use this video to show how you edit and not a software tutorial aligns very much with how I'm using them (and what I'm interested in). As a hobby photographer who don't use Lightroom and Photoshop due to the subscription nature (also partly for being on linux) I use these videos as an inspiration source for editing in Darktable and Gimp (which I can highly recommend for people who want a free version). Really great content for seeing different ways to use tools to get various effects! Thanks! :)
Fabulous vid Nigel. I have had a play with the new features and your editing lesson has been really helpful. I cannot wait to edit another one of my images. Thanks so much. p.s. Very windy in Queensland Australia too!
Thank you for the tutorial Nigel! I already checked a bit the new tool but didn't go as deep as you presented here. I'm happy to see all the real potential of that new tool!
Excellent video, the updated LR masks seem amazing now especially for dealing with the sun in images as you demonstrated. I’ve leaned quite alot from this and can’t wait to play around with the masks. Thank you 👍
Interesting video! I'm not that familiar with Lightroom, but watching this really made me appreciate what a great job the team at On1 Photo Raw are doing and how much fore site they put into developing their software. A lot of these new LR features have been standard in that software for years. Have a great week Nigel!
Yes that occured to me. On the other hand, ON1 have been copying some of the best features of Lightroom and Photoshop for years to pitch themselves as an alternative, but combining them in one application. I still have ON1 10 but haven't used it for a few years as I can do what I need to do in Lightroom and Photoshop, which I'm quite comfortable with.
That is such a useful video Nigel, there is a great deal of really useful content in there that I will need to watch it several times to glean all the info. Thank you.
Nigel, The only thing rubbish here was you saying you're rubbish at showing how to use the software. That's plain wrong. Fantastic video as always. I think you might not get it... your channel is amazing man. Can't thank you enough. Keep up the good work!
I have been using the new fantastic powerful masking tools since before the launching on 26. of October. So I know a lot about them, but this video widen my horizon - very useful.
Excellent. For someone who claims to be rubbish at demonstrating software Nigel, you did a bloody good job of showing us how use LR's masks. So thanks. By the way, I was relieved that your very expensive Nikon Z, perched very precariously, bang-on right-hand edge of your desk, which I half expected to fall off, didn't. ;-) That would have been a disaster!
Yes, there are plenty of tutorials that just list out new functionality or use some crappy sample photo to demonstrate one tool quickly. There are very few people who talk through the reasoning behind their choices while simultaneously using the tool, which is significantly more useful IMO.
I have to agree. I've been using graphics software, particularly PS for 25 years. Figuring out the interface is easy for me. Figuring out what to do with the tools is gold. I've learned so much in the month since I discovered your channel.
Yesterday I watched Anthony Morganti's introduction to the new Lightroom tools so it was great to see you using them to edit one of your images. Thanks - and I share your view on the Z9. I don't need one but I want one!
Have been playing around with the new update for the last week or and realised I almost never have a reason to move my picture to Photoshop. I can just do all my work in LR!
This was superb! I love seeing people edit an image and you showed me some things the new masks do that I had missed...like intersecting two and using the luminance mask. Thanks so much! You are so easy to listen to!
Thanks for sharing, Nigel. I've installed the latest LRc but I haven't tried the new UI yet. This was a perfect timing since I am processing a couple of photos today.
Saw some other videos about this update. I thought i knew the most by now. That was clearly not true. A lot of possibilities int his video!! Thanks again Nigel!
Great video, really helps to see a live example using the new tools. I've already had a play with some photos. The select subject worked great with a portrait photo of my daughter.
That was a great tutorial on how to use the new version of tools in Lightroom. You did a great job and thank you for doing this video as it will help my a lot in editing my photos. Thanks Nigel.
Hi Nigel, I like the new tools in lightroom but can't work out how to leave tree branches untouched either with the sky or Linear Gradient tool . We used to be able to do it with the luminosity mask within the Linear Gradient tool. Any ideas.
Great tutorial. I am learning a lot from you videos. Why do you use the radial masking tool in lieu of the post-crop vignette tool? My assumption is more control and maybe faster, but curious what you have to say.
Wow, I love the new Lightroom tools and your brilliant explanation as to how you use them. I can’t wait to try them out for my own images, following your video here! Many thanks Nigel, for sharing your expertise.
Very well done, sir. Much better than someone teaching me what buttons to push. Marvelous to follow your eye around the image - exactly what I need most.
you can rename the Mask name - like Mask 1 -> Sun, Mask 2 -> Sky low, Mask 3 -> Sky high etc... makes it easier when you come back later ... to do this you float your cursor over the 3 dots and choose "Rename". Very handy.
Thank you for explaining maybe simplest things, but that boost a bit knowledge and usage possibility! Great simple and inspiring tutorial! I Like how new Masks work.
Great tutorial Nigel, I learned a lot from your editing techniques. Lrc is becoming such a behemoth in image processing there is so much to learn. Gripe from me is that AI and software advances will soon result in one click development based on your preferences. Your images are stunning, great stuff Nigel.
Started using the new Lightroom updates this week. These changes are making it easier to do more in LR and less in PS. I can imagine working only in LR.
@@NigelDanson I do play most of the videos I watch on greater than 1x speed, but I didn't have to watch it all the way through to already have learned something new 😄
Interesting! Just installed the update so will be having a play with some of the new tools later. Really well explained. Love the image! Glad your feeling better Nigel. Thanks for sharing. Enjoyed watching this.
Another great tutorial Nigel of a lovely photo. Could I humbly suggest however that the central rock has too much light on it when it is in the shade side of the sunlight. Hate to be so picky but it looks unreal to my eyes.
Completely agree about preferring to use a gradient rather than the new sky select: it’s very clever, but skies are usually not sufficiently uniform for a selection of whole to be much use - this is a necessary part of sky replacement in Photoshop, but there is no sky replacement in Lightroom!
Thanks Nigel to make a windy Sunday morning interesting! I hope with you that not all the leaves are blown off by the stormy weather and we can still enjoy the amazing autumn colours a bit longer!
I noticed this update greatly improved the panorama stitching algorithm as well as added an extremely useful spot removal tool too - no more dehaze abuse! ^^
Not a tutorial in using the software. Dude, I have just learned more in the first 8 mins than I have when watching tutorial vids. That Intersecting filter with the graduated light luminosity Thing was amazing! Didn’t even know that was a thing! As always Nigel, fantastic work!
Yep same here :)
Exactly the same here. Appreciate your effort!
Made me almost question the need for Nik. Almost.
Agree totally!
This is a masterclass on the new Lightroom masking tools delivered in 18 minutes. Nigel you are a great teacher. Thank you.

Select sky is great to use when you want to affect everything but the sky. Click select sky then invert.
Yes I’ve used that too… very useful
I love the clear vision you have and the simplicity of your edits with awesome results !!!
Thanks Nigel
This is incredible, it blows my mind! I hope I can learn to edit like this! Thanks for taking the time to make this.
One of your best videos in the last time. Would be great to have more of these examples and how you handle your shots in post processing.
The quick access to intersect and to the inverted radial filter were helpful. Hadn't seen those used yet

Hi Nigel, Totally agree with Chris's comments. Learnt so much in the short space of time. Great wok. Many thanks
much more important than learning how to, was to learn WHY to use certain tools and you made me edit better, so thanks for that
