Wonderful daughter, God bless this beautiful soul. Age brings with it disability and our children are supposed to help us but my daughter is too wrapped up in her own world to be bothered and my son does drop by occasionally. In the meantime, we struggle on but as the weeks turn into months, I feel the struggle getting harder. There is no help out there for elderly folk.

My husband passed away recently. I’m healthy 64 years old, but I’m alone and sometimes think , what will happen to me when I’m old and can’t do for myself anymore.?

My mother and father had four children. Two moved away, and my younger brother and I, the oldest, stayed. Everyone was ready to come visit when they were doing well, eat, borrow money, they were there all the time. But as soon as they got ill, the visits became less and less. My mother got dementia and had to be put into a nursing home. Very soon after my father became ill, I had to sell his house and he moved in with me. I cared for him for five years until he passed. My mother is still alive and I still care for her and bring her home twice a week just like I did while my dad was alive. I love my brothers and my sister, and they come and visit on occasion. My sister comes and helps out for a week here in there and it does help. But what they seem to think is that because I receive the proceeds from the house, I should never ask them to do anything. They act like they’re doing me a favor when they do anything at all. They were their parents also. I only have one child, and I know that in for me, I do not ever want to do this to my child. I do not want him to spend his last year’s taking care of me like I had to.

Well done dear, no matter what we do we are never able to compensate our parents especially mother.
Remember what you offer for your old parents now, your kids will offer you back the same when you get old.

Please keep up the good work.. those who take care of their parents are blessed .. I took care of my mom who has dementia along with my father at home until she went to be with the Lord.. she was never sent to assisted living.. my brother and sister hardly came and left quickly... they used to think since I live in dad's house it's only my responsibility.. the Bible says what we sow is what we reap and the good and right work you are doing will be rewarded... God bless you and your dear mother always..Amen

I brought my mother into my home, with my family and was her care giver for 3 years.
I had little help but I have no complaints.
I had to cook for my family anyway so one more to feed wasn't a big deal.
You don't have to cook everything from scratch.
My mom could eat, chew whatever food we had.
Now, I am disabled with mobility,, balance problems and was suddenly living alone and in mourning. My son came and he cuts my grass, etc but I still have to fix meals, do my laundry and care for myself. I try to clean but vacuuming, mopping, scrubbing bath tubs and some of the dusting is impossible for me.

Couldn't agree more Ozzie that's how it should be ...but today many kids don't care at all about parents ...too busy dealing with their own family which is sad must say that some kids look after parents well some parents don't appreciated it sad

Wonderful and lucky daughter to be able to take care of her mother. Unfortunately in our Indian society most married women can't look after their own parents. However it's supposed to be their duty to take care of their husband's parents.
