- To be world-renowned on the fashion, model and entertainment stage is a dream held by many teenage girls. Despite the low odds of anyone making it big in the cruel world of entertainment, a 17-year-old girl with Down Syndrome, Gigi Cunningham of Danville, Illinois is determined to turn that dream into reality.

Exactly!! People will tear down, hurt, and even try to break someone down who is different or has down syndrome, treating them like they are missing something when in reality she is mature, she has gone through trials and tribulations of her own like every one else has, she has her own goals, her own story, has a moral compass of right and wrong, is very intelligent, and even exudes such a massive amount of self confidence that some people will never even obtain in their entire existence. It makes my heart heavy because she is truly so beautiful to me. I love how she cannot be told what she is or isnt, or what she can and can't do!! Many blessings to her and her family ❤

Down Syndrome is NOT what it used to be...There was a time when children with Down Syndrome were locked away or left out in the shadows of all walks of life...Thank God things have evolved and GiGi is here thriving!!! God bless her and her beautiful family...

Very true! People used to be ashamed of a family member who had DS, or any type of intellectual disability, as if it was some kind of punishment. Yes, raising a kid who has it has some extra challenges, but so does raising a kid who is a genius. They also give us extra blessings! As much as I hate lumping groups of people together, in my experience, people who have DS are usually kind, happy, gentle people. Of course, there are the exceptions. There is nothing wrong with people who have DS. They take the best of our qualities & make them their own. Science says they have an extra chromosome. Maybe the rest of us are missing one. Imagine a world where people are kind, gentle, quick to forgive, and sweet. Gigi is BEAUTIFUL, DS, or not! Gorgeous is gorgeous! You go, Gigi!!!!! I want to call you the R word - REMARKABLE!!!! You are!

Kind it varies, there’s much higher and much lower ability down syndromes
Obviously Gigi is amazing but I think her mom is incredible as well. Having a child at 17 is hard but having a child with Down Syndrome is even harder. I want to applaud her for thinking in opportunities instead of disabilities. What an amazing mom!

My younger cousin who is about 20 has the same name spelled a bit different than the original... They call her Mo for short and when her mom named her that I was so damn confused, but all of her kids have this kind of name, such as Money (not spelled that way of course lol).

My sister stifles my niece she controls her far too much. She won't let her go to a residential holiday centre for a few weeks. My niece was so different when she was in a term time boarding college. My niece does not have any friends she does not go to a day centre she is doing nothing except going out with her mother (my sister) it's not good for my niece never to be able to mix with others. We can't say anything to my sister about it, she would loose her temper and cut contact with us completely like she has before.

This girl has given me life on a rainy day here in NYC. She is so confident, intelligent and so sweet. Her family is amazing with their love and support for her. Gigi is going to go VERY far in life with that attitude.

I'm so amazed by GiGi, when I was pregnant the doctor's told me at 7 months that my baby had downs and a brain tumor and said that it would be best to abort. I prayed and decided to have my baby anyway. My child didn't have either. It's a blessing to see that children can overcome any thing in life. GiGi is motivational to human life! 💗💜

She's got a lot of personality it makes me mad that kids bully her in school when most of them will never have to go through some of the things she has to go through, hopefully when those kids become adults they will look back on how they bullied her and feel sorry, it's no excuse to bully someone when life is so short and everyone is trying to make it

Disability, including intellectual disability, shouldn't mean romance is off the cards. She's a beautiful, confident, amazing woman and any guy would be lucky to have her.

She's very beautiful. It's strange that they never told the mom that her baby had Down's while she was still in the hospital. Usually the doctors pick up on that as soon as the baby is born. It's also a miracle that she had no health problems at birth.

it could be deemed as difficult to raise a child that is not biologically yours and then to step up and raise a child with a disability that is not biologically yours is extremely honorable... Gigi's father is a very special man, they are both lucky to have one another
