    The humble jazz-guitar giant decodes the makings of his signature Collings 470 JL.
    While on tour for the album, Lage invited PG’s John Bohlinger to the soundcheck before his show at Brooklyn Bowl inn Nashville to share his insights into why he likes a straightforward rig and “honest” tone. In the interview, Lage elaborates on his three main guitars (his Nachocaster, Collings signature, and ’55 Les Paul), explains why he prefers low volume on his amps, and offers a remarkably brief tour of his pedalboard.

    He's meek, almost bashful. AND he's beyond smart. you listen to him and know that immediately. couple that with chops for days and you got Julian. We're lucky that he's part of our generation (alive and kickin')

    For what Collings charges I’d just get a vintage Duo Jet.
    Really Collings are guitars for players who don’t play guitar for living. They are for lawyers, doctors, executives who play guitar as a hobby.
    Only the top 1% of working guitarists could afford a Collings guitar as they make the income to afford one… and Collings gives them guitars for free (endorsements, signatures) so they can market their guitars to lawyers, doctors, and other rich guitar hobbyists.
    In short, I am sure they are great instruments but they aren’t for gigging guitarists.

      Absolute non-sense. Look at their long list of artists playing a Collings guitar. I even see quite a few RUclipsrs playing one. Maybe go out and try one yourself, start selling some of the gear that we most likely all have too much of (thinking of my pedal board) and then you will be (almost) there. - at least for a used one.

      @Tyler Wilhelm I oppose against these blunt statements: „lawyers, doctors etc guitar“. It also shows no respect for the work that people put in making these guitars. A Collings guitar can easily cost you 5.000 USD. What you get is a guitar of finest quality, built by hand, made in USA. If you just count the hours that go into a single instrument. Don‘t you think that you will not get to a reasonable explanation of the number on the price tag?

      @pnksk8r390 Год назад +1

      I think you have to consider that there is a level above your average "working guitarist." If you are a professional Trombone player playing in a symphony orchestra,, a serious horn could cost you 3-4k or more. Sure, a collings JL guitar is like 6k but for a real serious guitarist, its an investment you make if the music you create demands the sound of this instrument. Of course, you're not going to buy this if your work requires a strat.

    • @pnksk8r390
      @pnksk8r390 Год назад

      @Tyler Wilhelm I know that a Conn 88H used to be the golden (brass lol) standard for trombone and I think they go for around the price range I listed. I'm sure French horns or tubas can go for more.

      Agreed!
      Julian didn't touch it at the Jefferson Theater performance in Charlottesville Virginia on December 14th. Margaret Glaspy played one song with it...he only played the Nachocaster. Otherwise, expensive stage "eye-candy". And the Bigsby is there just as counter-balance...psst.
      great show regardless...
