Thin line jazz electric hollowbodies seem overblown, but that's all the choices Collings offers as their standard models. Yes, fat jazz archtops do have playing comfort and feedback issues. But, really, somewhere in between is optimal as far as body thickness and bracing. About 2 1/2" rim-to-rim may be enough to help preserve jazzy hollowbody tones better than jazz thinlines do IMO. And scalloped bracing is also an alternative in between es335 semihollow and full L5 style hollow bodies. Pickup choices like Roy Butts filtertrons are never utilized for jazz archtop, just PAFs (and sometimes p90s or CCs), but should be. Filtertrons for a Gretche country/rockabilly tone and PAFs for a Gibson Jazz/blues tone would be nice to switch between. Ultimately, a carved top and back is a must for any jazz guitar (unless you're as good as George benson) . A 7 string carved body with super 400 dimensions but scalloped bracing or an inch thinner body would be something I would drool over. (Someone please wake me up; it will never ever happen in this life without 30k and a 3 year wait for Collings to build me such).

What gauge strings do you have on that I-35?
