Yep. Get the basics from CS, and apply your knowledge to cyber.
Thank you for being straightforward with your information!
Sir, thank you so very much. I was thinking the same about the Cyber Degree; however, I thought I was wrong. I agree, I think having the CS Degree will open the doors for Cyber......as-well-as other things.
Glad it was helpful!
This is why my Associates will be in Cybersecurity and as I finish my Bachelors it will be Computer Science with a Concentration in Information Security. The CS program will give practical experience in programming languages such as Python and Java and SQL while I gain information on security and plan on getting my certifications in Sec like the CompTIA Sec+ Network+ and maybe the eJPT and CEH later if needed so that I can take on roles in both development and security.
How old are you, just out of curiosity? Im 26, with only a year of GE under my belt. You think its too late to benefit from getting a tradition degree?
@@gusofalltrades865 its not to late bro. I changed careers when I was 26. I originally was a truck driver with my CDL Class A with all my endorsements working locally making 100k i just loved tech and pivoted
Ultimately the goal is to earn a great living and find work that you love doing. Nowadays the demand is so high for IT professionals that degrees aren't necessarily a pre-req. If you have a passion for a particular IT skillset and have the drive and discipline you will eventually find your way degree or no degree. Most of your real learning is going to be on the job anyway. A degree just get's you past HR when it comes to IT.
IT will become more vocational as time goes on as the degrees being handed out have been garbage for a while.
Honestly thinking of getting my Cyber sec degree then getting my cloud+ and have the option of becoming a cloud engineer. For people who are deciding the computer science route just think about it most/50% of jobs will ask for computer science degree or “equivalent” as a requirement a information sciences degree or the other name for it that we most popularly call it is “cybersecurity” which falls under that category, plus you will have certifications to go along with it which is more in total than a computer science degree
I’d recommend a certification from a vendor like AWS, Azure or Google rather than the cloud+. It’s not really recognized and the knowledge IMO can be easily gotten from any other cloud provider cert.
@@DayCyberwox ok thanks
YEEESS I am so glad he posted....time to grab the popcorn
Why am I, a law graduate watching this?
join us! become a hacker
Better hack saul😂😂
Look, a CS degree is broad and it's much more versatile than a Cybersecurity degree. A cybersecurity degree only gets you so far but having a CS provides a variety of careers in the technology industry. The problem with CS degree that most can't seem to surpass is the complex logic, math and programming that's involved.
Computer Science = If you like coding
Cybersecurity = If you don't like coding
That simple really.
Nah not really. I know a lotta CompSci people who like coding and are in cybersecurity. It’s not that simple.
FACTS 🗣️
@@DayCyberwox it’s is that simple. I’m living proof of it 👊🏽.
@@im_anubiz Can you help me bro?
Its been 2 years now.has the situation changed, based on my knowledge CS degree core subjects and skills are part of a well rounded cybersecurity degee with only a few changes
Hey I have a 4 year degree in Cybersecurity and I am thinking about taking the BTL 1 course so that i can get the cert. I know the exam is 24 hours but do i really have to work on the lab portion for 11-12 hours straight?? that just seems wild to me and i feel like i would make a ton of mistakes. I don’t think small breaks in between could make up for me being glued to a computer screen for that duration of time. any thoughts?
What's a good place to gain the required knowledge for cyber security and be job ready?
This isn't completely true the demand is high rn and the growth from now to 2030 is higher than any other career field which is why someone with a CompTIA Security + certification can even find work in cyber security. I am actually going to school rn for my Associate's in Information Technology after I earn my associate's I am already enrolled to start my Bachelor's in Cybersecurity the thing is i dont know how far you can get with just a Certification i feel like earning degrees and combining them with certs as well as eventually gaining on the job experience will help you grow within the companies your working for and i just dont see that being a option unless your really good with just a certification.
i agree 100%
I would disagree on your CS degree view. I agree if you did an internship or coop.
I agree and a CS entry job now is so difficult to get. Because education can be vetted and the interview process can be lengthy and specific. Students are required to be knowledgeable. I found that interviewing for both jobs, CS jobs go up until 4-5 rounds of interviews and can get very technical. Whereas Security go up to 2 rounds and mostly conversational. Because hiring managers know there isnt a lot they can test you on and looking for more of someone who is passionate that they can train. I graduated with a CS degree but landed a Security job with barely any knowledge of Security. Just in my experience, it was way easier. Software Dev interviews are brutal!
^ Valid point there
@@MelCraft10 did you have any certs?
Hey I’m trying to take the Associate +certification route. I don’t know if I want to do associate in cyber or sc. Which would you prefer
Hey, I'm jus gona start with my university with in a week and I opted for CT(CY) computer science(specialization in cyber security), what y'all think about that?
I'm hella confused 😕 I hope I don't get a chance to regret later.
It really depends on the curriculum but I’d recommend also building relevant cybersecurity skills on your own, beyond what school teaches
I located a center for academic excellence for cybersecurity. Wilmu. I found them thru homeland security recruitment ad
Bro I'm Hella confused now I'm starting my uni soon and idk anything is it must to learn CS to get along with CYBER SECURITY
Facts
Hello,
I will be going to the university of Houston and will be majoring in computer science. I have my associates degree in computer systems networking with a specialization in cybersecurity. Do you think this is a good choice?
Sounds good from a degree perspective but I’ll recommend learning outside if school to really get the most value out of your time in school. Here’s a video I made on that [ruclips.net/video/kN_BII1rGEA/видео.html]

Very demotivating video please go have a proper check first don't just upload or post something just like that, your videos are being watched by many some are even watching it as per an advice or a suggestion purpose who wants to go for cyber security but does not have a computer science degree what should he do then if the person have a keen interest in cyber security hu he should not go for it then or what just sit like that and do nothing also when its proven that cyber security does not require computer science background only person interested matter specially when there are proven hackers whom mostly are from non it background without any computer science degree are best hackers and some of them are even considered as dangerous hackers in the world how come they do so without any science background even though the most knowledgeable person in the computer it world are mostly from simple computer degree or dropout whom are now known as computer genius like Mark Zuckerber, bill gates, Steve Jobs they have proven that passion and interest towards something give you success where as there are people who have computer science background many are there but how many of them are successful except the passionate and interst to learn something new person please think about it again please🙏😊 2:45
Why can't they combine both?
Some schools do
