Agreed. I did the ring road in 2018 and wish this had been available then. My trip was very similar to his, with the exception of the westfjords. Definitely recommend every stop in this video.
I absolutely LOVED everything about this video - the footage, the production, the narration and most importantly the information. I learned so much. Thanks, Allan and congratulations on a job well done!!!
Icelander here. Thank you for mentioning the prohibited things such as off-roading since it is a big problem here. We have a unique country, but every time someone drives of the beaten path it reduces the value of our experience while traveling; tourist or native. Again, thank you. Fantastic video and I will be sharing this on FB with Icelandic travel groups. This is a must see!
Hey!!! Im looking to go to your beautiful country with my girlfriend on November 2021. Can you recomend some tourist agencies to help us plan a 12 days tour? We are usually solo travellers, but to be honest, I wouldnt be comfortable driving on Iceland during those months. Thanks
This is a piece of art, a video made with deep respect for life and nature. Amazing images. Sincere compliments, please don't stop sharing your travel experiences.

It’s also going to cost the same as a tour or slightly more. So you may consider booking a tour for a similar price and not deal with the hassle. Since you’re traversing the country on your own, you have to be more vigilant. Learn the rules of the road, navigate on your own, avoid taking the wrong turns and adapting to driving on and in different terrains and weather. This means you need to know what to pack, and what car to rent. When in doubt opt for an SUV that can handle all terrain. It is the costliest option however. I rented a standard sedan and planned my trip to avoid any F-Roads. Taking all of this and much more into consideration can be a bit daunting if it’s your first time, but that’s why it’s adventurous and I was up for the challenge. I thoroughly enjoyed my trip and had no major hiccups. If you choose to be a local during your stay, then you can spent your trip staying in one of the towns outside of Reykjavik. This is probably the cheapest option. The most you’ll spend is on accommodation and getting to and from the airport. You can visit the sites near the town or choose to venture out a little. The further you venture out, the more it’ll cost you, because you’ll likely have to rent a car or book a tour for this. To answer your questions directly: Some places are close to each other and some are far. It really just depends on what you plan to see and whether you intend to do the entire Ring Road or just a part of the island. Naturally, places in the city are much closer. Sites in the Diamond Circle are closer, as it’s a smaller area of the island (30mins - 1.5hrs apart). Places on the Ring Road can be 30mins to 3 or 4 hours apart. It all depends. What you plan to see will determine whether you stay. I basically spent the entire day sightseeing and checked into my hotel at the end of each day. Each site I drove to throughout the day brought me closer to my hotel. So I basically booked a different accommodation for each day. That’s a tight schedule but it worked for me. Others may choose to take things at a slower paced and spend a day or two at their accommodations. This will of course extend your time and increase your costs… Be prepared to do a lot of driving if you intend to do the Ring Road. Easiest way to estimate your driving times in advance is to pull up the locations on Google Maps and add the total driving times between each stop. I then factored in 1-2 hrs for sightseeing at each site and that’s how I planned and calculated the time I needed for my entire Ring Road trip in advance.
Would say this is one of the most informative, engaging and inspirational travel vlog I have seen. Truly loved it and can't wait to plan a trip to experience this. Thanks Allan Su!
I was stationed at a remote, NATO/ USAF radar site at Hofn, on the southeastern tip of Iceland in the late 70's. It changed my life...good to see this.
This may be the best travel guide I've ever seen on RUclips, Allan. It is certainly the best one I've seen on Iceland. Thanks for the work you put into creating this. I hope there are more of these to come. I'm going to start working my way through your other vids. [subscribed]
My wife and I were in Iceland 16 days last year (Sept - Oct, 2019). We were in Reykjavik seven days and drove to areas east and west of the city the other nine. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the trip, and I look forward to returning in a few years to travel the entire Ring Road. I would like to schedule up to four weeks for that trip, just to hang out/explore for several days at places along the road. I have been to a great many countries, and Iceland ranks very near the top of my list of places I have visited.
I first watched your Japan travel guide and now this. You're hands down one of the best travel vloggers on youtube. You deserve more exposure and definitely hell of a lot more subscribers. This video reminded me of my time in Iceland which was nothing short of magical. Respect and much love from Canada.
Thank you for this video! We followed this itinerary for our 10 day trip including visiting the westjordes. It was an amazing experience especially with our 7 year old. I am reminiscing the joyful moments of our trip after watching this again ❤️
This is EASILY the best travel video dealing with Iceland that I have ever seen. Your footage is amazing and everything that you discuss is spot on. It's obvious that a lot of time and effort went into this project. I especially love that you opt for video footage so much where so many other travel bloggers just point the camera at themselves. This is a truly impressive piece of work!
I absolutely LOVED everything about this video - the footage, the production, the narration and most importantly the information. I learned so much. Thanks, Allan and congratulations on a job well done!!!
Spent 5 days in Iceland. Amazing. My husband and I had amazing experiences ......would definitely return. Peaceful and rejuvenating. Thanks Oscar for showing us around. Very different from Australia
Such awesome memories in 2018. I went with my two daughters and we spent less than he mentioned for three people. Airbnb was beautiful! Right in the city. We cooked almost all of our meals to save money bringing some groceries with us from the US.
What a great travel guide Allan! I visited Iceland back in 2016 and I practically took the same path you did along the Ring Road. The East Coast is totally underrated and the Westfjords is a must see. Thank you for bringing back those memories and in a soothing and calm way because that's exactly how I felt when I was there too.
I just got back from Iceland yesterday and definitely fell in love with the country. When you are on the coat, anywhere you point your camera is a postcard picture. It looks like you went in the summer. It is supposed to be spring now, but they are experiencing a lot of wintery weather and we nearly missed out on the south coast as the road to Vik being closed due to snow storms in the night. Luckily they opened it again at 2 pm, so was worth waiting extra time at Skogafoss and Kvernufoss falls until the passage reopened. I'd like to return in the summer, just to see how the landscape colours change in the new season. Watching this made me feel a little home sick for Iceland and it isn't even my home. Great video
haha dude I've just started planning the ring road and this pops up! blown away by the production quality on this, thank you! and also in awe at how beautiful this island looks
Hi Allan. I was there more than 2 years ago before pandemic. Truly enjoyed myself and was lucky to see the Northern Lights. One of the scenic countries that I have ever seen with plenty of waterfalls. I went inside on conducted ice cave and you know what - I tripped and fell twice inside the cave. Can’t help it because I was about 75 years.
I did the Ring Road this last July 2019 with my 15 year old daughter. It was a little hurried of an itinerary for us due to time restraints, but we managed in 6 days and spent the final 2 days in Reykavik (8 days in the country total). When I go back, I'll either make sure that I have a full 10-12 days (or more if I do the entire Ring Road again) or ... stay in one region and explore all that it has to offer. This video is very well done. I think that you covered all the important items for people who are planning a trip there. I did a lot of research prior to my own trip, and I was wondering how I missed this video, but I see that you recently put it out - so there's my explanation :) Good job! Safe travels to you.
Yup, 8 days definately not enough. My last visit was November 2017, 8 days for ring road + Reykjavik & Grundarfjörður, end up everyday driving in the dark night without scenery (sunset at 4:30pm)
@@randomstuff-p5m - yes for sure. I had limited time but it ended up working out alright. It was basically and epic road trip and on each daily leg we made sure that we stopped at as many sites as possible before getting to our accommodations each evening. I'd probably stay in the SE region next time I go and just venture out from an Air B&B daily (used as a home base) ... and do a different nearby adventure each day (next time)...
This is my first comment on a video, ever. I just wanted to say, you are awesome. This video is awesome. You have a map, explanation of expense, explanation of each stop on your map, so cool videos. Like, wow. Thanks man. Inspiration achieved.
Hi Allan, after just booking our first Icelandic trip from the UK I then went on RUclips and found your video not only did I find it so informative but the music your commentary, information the tone in your voice and the passion for photography just brought this video to life, I actually felt I was taking that journey with you and your partner thank you and I will watch this over and over again and if your other videos which I’ve not seen yet but if their anything like this video we’ll all I can say is your insight is inspiring. Keith 5***** 👏🏾👏🏾
I almost never leave comments and I don't really subscribe to channels, but this was absolutely superb. It was extremely educational, beautiful, and a complete pleasure to watch and your music choices couldn't have been better, especially for a video like this for a place like Iceland. Please please please keep producing these kinds of videos for the places you explore. Thank you so much.
I just found this video. I have to say, this was the best and informative travel guide so far. All the footage was stunning. And great narrative. One of my travel bucket list is Norway. Hope you’ll be there.
This video is a hidden gem! So soothing, wonderful and informative. Sowing the map and taking through the places one by one made the experience complete!
I agree it’s most organised with information and giving great tips how to travel. I live in iceland and often check on new videos about iceland but this one really impressed me! Great job wow ))))
I’ve been iceland twice, and going to 3rd. I always want to know more about Westfjords, but i’m afraid for being alone there especially during winter, I’m going by January. Any advise?
This has to be one of the best videos I have watched and you had extremely beautiful shots I’m leaving in 2020 for Iceland and this is a good start for me!!
This video has tremendous photography and soundtrack, your skills capturing and editing it is delectation to our eyes and ears. It can also be set in the satisfying videos category as it truly calm down us as the same time amuse us! well done for such achievement, it is an art!
This is a beautiful video, as many have commented. I would add that your selection of music was also wonderful - far better than the vast majority of RUclips, and it fits the visuals perfectly. It has given me ideas for a trip in September 2023 I am planning with my son. Thank you.
This is absolutely the best travel video i've ever seen! Extremely informative and with a very high quality! Love how you pace it slowly and really shows the beauty of the places. I'm super inspired to go for Iceland now and in a single video I learned basically everything I'll be doing there. Thanks a lot for making this!
Just outstanding in terms of production value and information. I was looking for a “first-timer’s intro to Iceland” and this surpassed my expectations. The videography is superb and the music was perfect-helped to set the mood without being intrusive. Thank you for your commitment to excellence.
Dear, sir, Allan Su! A very warm and big THANK to you for this amazingly well produced Iceland video presentation! I am so glad to see how much you have enjoyed your voyage to this special country in North hemisphere! Wishing you all the blessings and good things always for both you, sir and for your loved ones and whole family! /Best Regards from Sweden!
I love the cinematography. That was breathtaking. I love that random shower in the middle of nowhere. I didn't expect to see that. It was so random. I love how the sink next to it didn't work. So hilarious 😎 Dude. I love how you were able to capture the heart of such a beautiful country. I knew absolutely nothing about Iceland prior to this video. And now I'm considering scheduling a future backpacking trip to this magnificent country or possibly doing a study abroad in the future. Oh my gosh. It's so quient and lovely. The landscape is absolutely beautiful 😊
What a great video, beautiful and informative. Love the native comments and input as well and the personal moments help visualize how it will truly feel. Great job, thank you!
Unbelievable video. I felt compelled to let you and everyone know how truly spectacular this video is. Brought back such great memories from our past trips and new discoveries for the next time we are in Iceland. Thank you for taking the time and effort to create it.
We booked a trip to Iceland for September of this year! Definitely will be adding a few of these spots to our itinerary. Thank you for making such a beautiful video and sharing so much knowledge!
Thank you for producing and making public such an informative travel video documenting your 10 day trip. Photos are beautiful and your commentary much appreciated.

The voice, the background music and the scenery in Iceland, all matched so well. Definitely will follow your step and take your advice. Thank you so much for sharing!

I am planning for a road trip counter clockwise by referring to some articles. Watching your video just adds up everything with visuals! Thank you Allan
Absolutely amazing video Allan. You have obviously put a lot time in creating it with the aerials, music, maps, route plan etc. By far the best video I have seen on Iceland. In fact I have changed my route plan based on what I saw here. I am very grateful for you effort in sharing it with the world. I would love to see your other videos. Best wishes and regards Allan!
my family is visiting Iceland in May, and I think we should just copy your exact trip because it seems so well done and planned. thank you so much for this video, it was wonderfully produced and very engaging
I dont know where to put this comment bec it applies to all your videos. The components of your videos - quality, narration and the places you feature are simply incredible.
Subscribed indeed!! What a great work you’ve done, the photography, the music and the narration are superb. I’ll use this an inspiration for my trip but I’ll add 8 more days :) Thank you very much!
Arguably one of the best videos I have ever seen on a travel guide. I truly enjoyed the informative session. I have been meaning to go to Iceland for quite sometime now and this video answered all my questions. Well done.
Hi Allan! I just want to thank you for this amazing video! It helped guide me through my own solo Ring Road trip. I am just finishing up today, and heading back home with a bunch of awesome memories! Keep up the great work!
Great video Allan, my son and I did the ring road a few years ago, it was amazing indeed. I am planning another visit in 2021, can you share your itinerary for your trip as you seem to have really used your time there well.
Note: The speed limit on gravel roads is 80km/h and not 70km/h as shown in the video. I apologize for the mistake.

Hi
I was stationed at a remote, NATO/ USAF radar site at Hofn, on the southeastern tip of Iceland in the late 70's. It changed my life...good to see this.
This may be the best travel guide I've ever seen on RUclips, Allan. It is certainly the best one I've seen on Iceland. Thanks for the work you put into creating this. I hope there are more of these to come. I'm going to start working my way through your other vids. [subscribed]
Timothy Linn thank you Timothy! Glad to have you onboard
This is by far the best (most detail) Iceland ring road trip guide!
wow, your video has quality like Expedia or lonely planet but with more useful information.
Thank you! Hope you found it helpful
That was one of the best, if not THE best, video on Iceland I've ever seen! You are an outstanding videographer. Thank you for making this.
One of the best travel guide
Where are you living
I first watched your Japan travel guide and now this. You're hands down one of the best travel vloggers on youtube. You deserve more exposure and definitely hell of a lot more subscribers. This video reminded me of my time in Iceland which was nothing short of magical. Respect and much love from Canada.
You really made an excellent film that may help a lot of people going there, super thanks!
Iceland is one of the most amazing country I've ever visited in my life
Really what make it so great

Hi my black girls in
What a great travel guide Allan! I visited Iceland back in 2016 and I practically took the same path you did along the Ring Road. The East Coast is totally underrated and the Westfjords is a must see. Thank you for bringing back those memories and in a soothing and calm way because that's exactly how I felt when I was there too.
This has to be the first time I tear watching a RUclips video. The whole video was beautiful with insane views and such a great montage.
This is the best Iceland Travel guide i've watched! Ive watched plenty and been to Iceland twice now, and this is a perfect guide!
Hello from Illinois, USA. I enjoyed visiting Iceland with your excellent video and narration. Thanks.
This video is amazing! I think it’s the best travel video I’ve seen
Where are you from my
I just got back from Iceland yesterday and definitely fell in love with the country.
That RUclips
algorithm strikes again. Good luck on the planning
Rob holy smokes 6 days! I thought my 10 days was rushed
@@randomstuff-p5m - yes for sure. I had limited time but it ended up working out alright. It was basically and epic road trip and on each daily leg we made sure that we stopped at as many sites as possible before getting to our accommodations each evening. I'd probably stay in the SE region next time I go and just venture out from an Air B&B daily (used as a home base) ... and do a different nearby adventure each day (next time)...
nice calm voice, nice soothing background music. Nature is God.
We saw this in school! And we had to take notes what important stuff u were talking about
This is my first comment on a video, ever.

Thank you so much.
oh ya know thank you for the comment! I intend to do so
I love it that people come here and find our country interesting. keep coming back
I just found this video. I have to say, this was the best and informative travel guide so far. All the footage was stunning. And great narrative. One of my travel bucket list is Norway. Hope you’ll be there.
It's on the list!
This is perhaps the most detailed and educative travel guide I have seen.
This video is a hidden gem! So soothing, wonderful and informative. Sowing the map and taking through the places one by one made the experience complete!
Hi
I agree it’s most organised with information and giving great tips how to travel. I live in iceland and often check on new videos about iceland but this one really impressed me! Great job wow ))))
Hi
Glad you went to the Westfjords. I make a trip there just to see it. Loved the solitude, even in the high tourist summer.
I’ve been iceland twice, and going to 3rd. I always want to know more about Westfjords, but i’m afraid for being alone there especially during winter, I’m going by January. Any advise?
@@andyngeow Some of the roads up there get shut down by the snow. I would go during the warmer months just so you'd have access to the whole area.
This is the best video on RUclips talking about Iceland
This has to be one of the best videos I have watched and you had extremely beautiful shots I’m leaving in 2020 for Iceland and this is a good start for me!!
Covid-19: are you sure?
Best travel guide yet. Thank you. From an old Icelander..
This was like going on a spiritual journey. Thank you for producing this.
There was so much included here that was not in other guides that I added to my upcoming trip intenerary! Thanks so much for the great guide!
I watch your videos when I'm stuck inside working. Thank you for them
I love the cinematography. That was breathtaking. I love that random shower in the middle of nowhere. I didn't expect to see that. It was so random. I love how the sink next to it didn't work. So hilarious 😎
Dude.
Long live Alan sue for this wonderful Iceland video. Your voice at the back is equal to the tranquil atmosphere. Great effort my hugs!
