Love your analysis of the bucket step. Yes, don't like losing that much ground. For my perspective in coaching youth football, I don't like the tackles in a up position on the snap. Because I emphasize staying low in drive blocking. I've also seen that bucket step used immediately having the tackle open his hips but in youth football, he cannot recover when the defensive lineman makes an inside move which is more of a direct line to the quarterback. I used to tell my live in very simple. Get nose to nose with the defensive man and keep your butt to the quarterback and constantly move your feet and make those punch moves to the chest. Also told them to mirror their defensive man while chopping your feet. Did not want them to lose that much ground. Would rather have them keep their defensive man closer to them. Just an idea that maybe is old school. Love the video!

Extremely helpful video. I play for a team that runs a lot of zone and we’ve been running into these problems all spring

Hello Coach Bentley! Another awsome video!
One theme I would like you to talk about is the pulling drills. In Brazil we start to learn a play football in the right way.

Nice explanation, (I'm kind of a visual person) but I would like to see a demonstration with an outside zone theory, I keep thinking about Drive catch with OZ more as wash down method instead of attacking the outside armpit and hooking the defender to set the edge. Thanks La Charles y'all doing great things over there at OLP keep up the awesome work.

Krazy71 Appreciate the feedback. To your point on OZ, the idea of fully hooking a defender is like trying to capture a unicorn. Personally, I MAY have fully reached a few not so good players in HS, but can’t recall a time I did it again ever since 😂. The game is too lateral and fast nowadays for that to consistently happen. Just OWN the angle you’re on and let the RB do his job.

Coach any chance of getting a visual against a defender coming upfield to show the differences between the 2 concepts

Tony Eb Tony, we may add that element down the road. But we feel very good about what’s presented. Appreciate you.
