THANK YOU SO MUCH! I absolutely adore Mary Seacole, she’s so legendary, and as a student nurse (whose university building is named after her), it is so lovely to finally have someone recognise how amazing this woman was despite having spent her life as a nurse largely in the shadow of Nightingale
@@georgiamarie_ can ask a question Georgia i would like to no what you think about ghost and paranormal do you think ghost exist i would like you to aswer me as your very clever and bright
I was so excited when I saw the name Mary Seacole as I am half Jamaican myself I know of her and her great works, you as usual managed to add some things that was not aware of, I have dreamed of making a mosaic of her for many years but as the worlds biggest procrastinator that project has not yet come to fruition. There are so many points that you mentioned that would be food for long discussions with you, who knows maybe one day we shall get to talk about it. Thank you so much Georgia, once again you have enriched my soul with your well researched history videos. Good luck in your new home❤
Natural "medicines" have saved my life. This woman is my new hero! The importance of comfort cannot be overstated. What an amazing, remarkable life Ms. Seacole lived!
What a woman born before her times! She showed more "balls" than anyone I know. Her story is a testament to overcoming bias and circumstances to achieve goals of purity and true selflessness. As always you told this very important story with enthusiasm and vigor which promotes the hearer into the heart of the times and motives of this incredible woman. Thank you for your efforts, so perfected and welcome.
I've always been a big advocate of schools learning about Mary seacole but I never knew she was mixed race like me. It reminds me that we can do anything, no matter what our skin colour is, our sexual orientation of anything else. I am proud ♥️
Thank you so much Georgia for covering this important part of history! Mary seacole was never mentioned in my history lessons, we only learnt of Florence nightingale and this strong woman deserves a mention for everything she did for the soldiers during the crimean war! She was a truly beautiful person!
Thank you very much for the history lesson I’m black and work in healthcare. This year has been something else especially with COVID & having had to work on intensive care as well. Mary Seacole has always been an inspiration & I love how you told her story. I wish they taught it in schools this way. Much love xxx
Amazing and extremely interesting. Luv your content. Enjoying your abundance of information. I've always loved learning about history....looking forward to more vids. Take care and have a good day. This lady was an incredible women.
RUclips, despite of the notification bell being on decided to not include your videos in my feed, so I’ve had a marathon of your videos today 🥰 Also, the video about Pendle trials has reminded me about the story that I had heard a few times in my childhood, of Barbara Zdunk, who was accused of witchcraft in 1810s, and was probably the last person in Europe to be burnt at the stake
I loved this video! I remember learning about Mary in school, but had completely forgotten her story. She is exactly the same ethnicity as me so it was amazing to hear her story again as an adult and actually appreciate what she went through. Thanks Georgia ✨
Really loved this!! One of the buildings in my uni is called the Mary Seacole building at Salford Uni, and I never knew of or had heard of her but always had a curiosity in the back of my mind! She’s pretty cool i say🙌🏼
I have gotten the sense from various sources that Florence Nightingale was a bit prissy and sensitive to the image of nurses because of a perception of nurses as camp followers. This is not to say that racism wasn't an issue for Florence, but her real focus with Mary was that she was undermining "orderly" nursing.
Yes, and also there was a distinct class bias. Having read The Wonderful Life of Mrs Seacole, it is clear that racism was simply not an issue in her life, although her being a foreigner messing in Britain's home concerns probably was. Her (tenuous) connection to Florence Nightingale was only during her brief Crimean days. Mrs Seacole had a rich life beyond that particular war.
There’s a Seacole Hall at the University of the West Indies, Mona. That’s of course in Kingston, Jamaica. How appropriate and a wonderful way to celebrate this amazing woman! Thanks for your talk.
Would just like to suggest Fanny Adams for a future video. I randomly looked up the origin of the term 'sweet Fanny Adams' and was fascinated to learn she was a real child who was tragically murdered. The origin of the phrase is quite frankly dispicable. But it would be really interesting to learn more.
I totally get Mary's thing about leaning in to being British and calling a country she's never been to "home". Despite being born and raised in Canada and my mum being french & German, I lean into my fathers Irish side and am desperate to visit my "home" Ireland.
You should definitely go one day, it's beautiful over there! Funnily enough I've always felt a certain affinity with Canada and have always wanted to visit
Please please talk about Tanja Gräff , she was missing for 8 years until she was found only 200 meters from where she was last seen. She was pushed off a cliff. Her killer is still on the run .. nobody talks about it anymore there was speculations that the killer might be a son of a police officer.. please I’m passing the place where they found her everyday to go to work. It’s in Trier Germany
Don't stress your temporary set up this video was wonderful! Keep it up you're amazing! Can't wait to see your new filming space/ background once you are fully moved in and set up!
Excellent job. Thank you for bringing her to life. I have never heard of her. (Side note-apoplexy is the old term for stroke. Technically breathing in the brain so you were on the right track but most people would understand more easily if told she died of a stroke.)
The lighting fine Georgia :) And I really enjoyed this video! I absolutely LOVE the history series, you've taught me a lot and your genuine interest in the topics really shines through. Congrats to you and the missus on your new place too! Hope you both settle in nicely. 🥰
I actually really love the natural lighting on you! You always look good, and it's not distracting. Thank you for telling this woman's story; I'd never heard of her beforeBut she's a fascinating character and I'm going to continue researching her legacy
I always enjoy hearing about Horatio Nelson because my family is related to him 😬 Just as a side note: I'm not the biggest fan of his, it's just really interesting. Anyways, great job Georgia, loved the video! It was super informative as always 💖
I adore this series, learning about women in history... I have recently found an instagram account on this topic, @adscrites, and I love learning more about these women, please continue ! 😊
It didn't bother me at all but just thought I'd suggest gro blind while you are waiting to sort the lighting situation out they have suction stickers on the back? Hope you are enjoying being homeowners 😍
That is the type of nurse I always wanted to be and be seen as -didn't always succeed though. Social anxiety and depression keeps me from all that now -well that and the fear of gastroenteric viruses.
Please do a video on the Amber Heard and Johnny Depp case. I know it’s not true crime but I think it would be interesting to see a youtubers viewpoint on it 😊
Wow Mary is a confident badass, in the 1800s nonetheless! Amazing woman. I dont blame her for not liking us Americans, especially back then hahah. What a wonderful woman, an emotional story
I agree!! I was so caught up in it that I found myself smiling, laughing, clapping my hands on several occasions and tearing up as well. INCREDIBLE WOMAN who story DESERVES to be told!!
You are projecting perceptions from today back into Mrs Seacole's time. She did not see herself as "powerful . . . regardless of the colour of her skin". She was simply a determined and adventurous woman. Questions of skin colour were incidental to her (as they were to most people at that time). Far more important was nationality. The London street boys were making cheeky comments about someone who was obviously different to the usual Londoner - mainly her hair. This was an age long before the modern obsession with racism" was invented.
I’m 56 and never heard of this lady. Thankyou Georgia for such brilliant and educational content x

There are a few videos on her. That phrase makes me sick and ashamed to be the same species as those who said it!
Thank you so much for covering her! I hated how In primary school Florence nightingale was glorified when Mary was AWESOME! 💕

Thanks for the historical information I love it and congratulations on moving in with your girlfriend!!
I think a lot of what you were talking about was called internalized racism when discussing how proud she was about her British or scot background.
I love that she gave zero fucks! Yaas maam! She was the OG badass
Me trying to figure out how she could have died in 1991 😂
Lol!!! I had to rewind it and listen again like did I hear that right?
LOL I Guess I was zoned out whenever she mentioned other dates, so I just assume that this is a lot more recent than I had thought 😹
I didn't click on til she mentioned about the grave being visited in 1973 and I was like huhhh haha I thought I was hearing things for a second 😂

Idk if this is just my hearing, but did you say she was born in 1805, died in 1991, then nurses visited her grave in 1973?? LOVE the video tho🤣

She sounds like an amazing lady
As an American, it makes me cringe all that much more how the Americans treated her and other people.
Wow, what a woman!!
At the beginning of this video I didn't know why I had never heard of her... but seeing her dislike of Americans, now I can understand 😒
