@InsignificantSpeckOfDust Think the story is they hired a sitar player for the session but weren't happy with the results. So Beck said I can do something there. And maybe he tried with effects to emulate a sitar sound or maybe not, but either way the part and the sound he came up with just fit.

Dude, I thought that you were referring to the period when Page and his newly assembled group consisting of Page, Plant, Jones & Bonham, were fulfilling a contractural European tour obligation for the Yardbirds. When Yardbirds bassist Chris Dreja sued Page & Co. insisting that they no longer use the Yardbirds name while on tour. So, for the rest of the tour Page & Co. toured under the name "The Knobs".
I thought I finally found someone else who knew of this fact. But, now you and whomever reads this now knows.
I always wondered if Page thought of the name because 'The Doors' was already taken. Who knows, right? 🦍💨

Clapton takes the lead on being a drunken buffoon,he once slurred into a mic in London that it should remain a white country,he was a heroine addict,Jeff Beck was the best of them but he didn’t care to be a rock star he was driven to take the guitar to places it hadn’t been used for,he was a weird guy but the best guitarist of the three.
Jimmy Page was the most successful of the three
