  • RV Motorhome Window Slide Bar Hack/ Fix /Trick
    👍We found a solution to the slide bars coming off our motorhome windows. It was extremely hard to open the windows then this happens. They were getting age and all falling off.
    They kept popping off but we found a solution to fix the problem.

    I used a clamp with rubber on each end to squeeze the gasket back on instead of the hammer. Solvent and tape worked great.

      @@RVBarndominium i went ahead and did the fix, but instead of using the golf grip stuff, i used weatherstrip adhesive. First, I applied it to the edge of the glass and put the rubber gasket on. Then I applied it to the middle of the gasket (not the ribbed sides) and then hammered on the handle. I followed your suggestions of using a soft head on the hammer and piece of wood acting as a middle piece between handle and hammer. I gave up on the piece of wood on the other end of the window since that kept falling out as i hammered.
      I'm now letting it sit a while before i try it (i don't know how long it needs to dry, but I want to give it as much time as possible cuz i don't want to do this again).

    mine popped off years ago, and it didnt matter much to me bc no water was getting in. Well now water is getting in and i cannot find what I did with the bar. Do you know what this piece is called / if i can get just the slide bar rather than a whole new window?

      You might need to call a dealer for your type of RV to see if they can order one.

    Good to know. We are getting water inside from this windows. Have you faced this problem? Is so how did you fix it?

    • @RVBarndominium
      @RVBarndominium  2 года назад +1

      Oh gosh, sorry to hear that. We haven't had that issue. Do you think it's your seal around the window? I've heard the seep hole can get clogged and then any water can't leak out.

      @@RVBarndominium Don't know. We noticed even from the ac water run inside the windows. We finally went camping. It was a wonderful time until we did the saniflush. Water leak. Then door got stuck. Hubby outside and I was inside ,windows climbing. It was time to LOL 😆 😂 🤣. Well the rv didn't make it home. We stopped at CW so they can get us out. Now is there for repairs because we need a new lock and fixing the leak. This is how we enjoyed the end of our 38 years of wedding anniversary.😅

      @@RVBarndominium We hope too. The problem it seems they want to replace the entire costly windows. Well I think we may need to have a meeting with the tech to find out why and to give us less expensive alternative . So far the reason I heard was the easy way, for whom? Certainly no for my pocket. We will see.

    Looks like there is a slight bow in the grab bar.

    Where did you get the rubber seal

    • @RVBarndominium
      @RVBarndominium  2 года назад

      The long black rubber peice came on the RV windows and what we are gluing backing. on.

  • @jarekio

    First off the design is primitive and flawed. In general, RV's aren't well built.
    I had the same problem and first off I analyzed the problem. The rubber seal goes on to the glass then the bar is press fitted on to the rubber seal. If you think about it, the rubber seal on to the glass doesn't have the grabbing strength so everything falls off. What I did is to clean the class, then used a coating of Gorilla Glue (could use something else) on the inside of the seal, then putting the rubber seal on the glass, essentially gluing the seal to the glass. For good measure, I waited 24 hours. I pressed fit the bar onto the rubber seal. I used a block of wood and a hammer to get the bar on all the way. So far so good...we'll see.

      Most all of our videos are over 10 min...that's just how we roll. Everyone has their own style as creators. It's hard to get everything in a "short video". 40 secs definitely wouldn't work...but thanks for the feed back. We will try to make a cut them down some.👍

    Don't film against the light. Video is hazy and hard to see.
    Those window edgings come off all the time. You glue them back with Sikaflex Black, a specialty silicone caulk from Home Depot. The way you are doing it is not technically correct. RV repair work is very specific. Silicone bonds to glass well. This is what is needed. No need for rubber gasket or tape or grip solvent. Much easier to slide in as well.
    You might think that making a relaxed 25 min video is the way to do it, but it marks you as a dinosaur living in a space time warp where you have all the time in the world. Unfortunately, your viewers don't. We have things to do. 25 min for a video that could be done in 1 min is ridiculous. You made a huge production of a very simple thing.
    By the way, that sugar water soda pop and those cold beers are going to make a fat gut and give you metabolic disease. It spikes your insulin levels. That is what puts on the pounds, esp in the gut, and insulin spikes is what gives you heart disease, fatty liver, gall bladder stones, kidney failure, COPD, etc. Sugar. Switch to some healthy drinks with zero sugar and this does NOT include fruit juice which is just as bad. No sugar. Get your college athlete figure back and live another 25 yrs longer. Don't drink sodas or juice and have very very few beers.

      There are several Sikaflex black adhesives. 221?? 2PG?? 715?? Do you recommend one of those?

    • @robhdez6364
      @robhdez6364 Год назад +4

      I used Sikaflex Black 221 with a light stream within the channel…don’t over do it or it will visibly goo out when the window is inserted. No need to retain the rubber window strip. 221 bonds metal to glass…works great. It’s a flex bond so no rattling either. It’s a very firm bond. Be very careful dispensing the 221 or it will get very messy & it’s difficult to remove or wipe down.
