There are multitude of reasons I believe black women should stop wearing weaves, wigs & extentions, especially straight, virgin hair. We have given people who hate us & only see us as a cash cow _millions_ of dollars. We have put these people's hair on our head, hair that looks nothing like ours, & simultaneously disrespected our beautiful natural hair. If many of you truly believed your hair was beautiful you would feel no need to put hair that looks nothing like yours on your head 365. And not to mention the poor women who are being exploited & lied to. Many of the sources for these bundles are unethical, & most women who purchase the hair are not doing the research to figure out who is ethical & who isn't & a lot frankly don't care as long as they can look like a baddie.
I do love my hair what has wearing hair extensions got to do with self hate. People like you is what makes being a black woman hard no matter what we choose to do with our hair. If a woman wants to flat iron, perm, weave, braid, extension, even wear it natural it’s our choice.
Agreed 100% with this statement! I actually had a really bad experience in a beauty shop but instead of telling the full story on RUclips, I told another milder story since I didn't want to expose the business. It had to do with weaves, and it scarred me, I have never been more disrespected in my life. I do believe that if we encourage more black women to purchase good quality hair extensions (that can last 3-9 years) and to wear their natural hair out more often (no matter how they choose to style it, as long as it is healthy) it would significantly decrease the amount of money that black women pour into this industry. Most Orthodox Jewish women who buy wigs use the same wig for 4-5 years. If black women could replicate this action of buying one really good quality wig every 4-5 years, it would bring about a lot of change. Concerning hair extensions and "baddie culture": Hair extensions have become a status symbol, almost like a Birkin bag. It is a showcase of wealth and status, especially in modern day pop culture. I mentioned it in a video as well. ruclips.net/video/qkd9ci7ECNc/видео.html ruclips.net/video/zY_6AfTxNPo/видео.html If we can redirect these messages that are being pushed heavily online towards young women, it would also make a major change as well. I remember when the natural hair movement started on youtube I loved it. Women with highly textured hair were making videos and sharing hair care tips. It was awesome now it's been taken over once again motivated by greed and playing on women's self esteem. It went from natural hair to the wig and weave movement. I've never worn wigs and weaves if you put as much money time and care into your own hair like you do those weaves I promise you would learn to love it. I would see other naturals now it's either wigs weaves or braids to keep from dealing with their own hair. Please don't say other races of women wear them to I know that already. Who are they marketing to?? and those other races of women wear texture like their own hair most black women don't. Men always compliment me on my natural hair confidence and beauty go hand in hand. THE MOST HIGH gave us the most beautiful 😍 hair on the planet. They know and understand that hence why they're always trying to get you to cover it up. If you know you know.
It’s exhausting to hear people saying « but black women can have naturally straight hair, blond hair too etc… » nobody said the contrary but come on look at the percentage!!!?? There are some white women with kinky hair in a low percentage so they have the pass for wearing cornrows ? Y’all are exhausting…
The part about the loc stealing in South Africa, this used to be a huge trend a few years ago. Now everywhere you look, everyone has synthetic locs as they are now the most popular style. But yeah, hair stealing was a whole pandemic here😔
Black women become the scapegoats for many looked down upon practices while other groups of people do the same things even worse without a care in the world. I know hair weave has picked up with African women, but Black ADOS women bearing the brunt of all things weave when we make up less than 6% of the population is ridiculous. These people love to get it wrong when it comes to BW! Seriously, it’s the obsession they have for us for me. C R E E P Y AF!!!
Some people “sacrifice” their hair for their gods/deities…watch out for that too…hair, nails, and blood are 3 things (I believe) that are spiritual…curses/hexes/rituals tend to have some or all of these “ingredients”
You're welcome! I needed it as well. Sometimes we need a good reminder that God sees us even through our struggles and that it's all working out for our good in Jesus' name! Thank you for the comment!
This was informative and well put together. Thanks for the facts and clips on production and consumption. I have a better understanding of how the hair industry operates.
I didn’t even know my country Kenya sells human hair dreadlocks. I thought persons cut their locs and kept them to reinstall on their own head later. I have used extensions but they were synthetic and it cost me a lot of money.
Weave never worked out for me it always made my hair break off no matter how good it was done or kept up. Researched it further it's so deep and would never put anyone's sacrificed hair in my head. It's definitely not that damn serious.
But black women wear hair that don’t match their hair texture. If your hair type is somewhere between 3a-4c which most of us have, why are u putting 1a type wigs on your head. Those are their protective styles, not bw’s. Continue being disingenuous though, they embrace their hair texture whether it’s a wig or it’s natural, bw dont
@@BlueYellowGreenVc bw on tsr comments kept telling Amara ka Negra to "switch it up" because they were tired if seeing her afro. Now that she Rick's straight hair, they love her hair.🤦🏾♀️
This video pointed out a few things to me ,it’s about time that black women start wearing their actual hair and stop complaining about it . And your video contradicted itself in so many ways I can’t even explain it in this one comment . First scalp issues are caused by not taking care of your hair in between installs, and yes you can wash the hair but after washing it should not cause any scalp issues so it’s clearly lack of hair care . second I like how we try to moralize the stealing of peoples offerings to their God because that was with the Indian people were doing most of the hair is being stolen let’s be honest it’s being stole off of people that’s why quality hair cost so much. And lastly I am really tired of the argument that white women wear extensions too yeah but not as long as we do ,and yes some people need hair weaves and wigs because of sickness and they want to feel feminine, but the extent that we go to avoid our hair is ridiculous but to each its own
That's true, and our hair is more attractive when it's something that grows out of our own scalps. I attract so many white and latino guys with my natural styles without even trying
I think black women use more weave and wigs no matter where you go on RUclips it's weaves sew ins and wigs I look for natural hair but that's all I find even my older sister wears wigs EVERYDAY
Constructive criticism- I appreciate the explorative nature of this video and love there is a solutions portion, but sometimes it sounds like you’re yelling and it’s a bit jarring, especially if you have headphones. Think less “giving a speech/presentation in a classroom” and more “recording a podcast”. Because you have a mic, you don’t have the project your voice as much. Try to practice speaking as though we are having a conversation and sitting next to each other. I think the quality of the audio will go up if you make that change.
Creating this video and learning about the business of hair truly opened my eyes to what was going on. I had no clue beforehand, and I believe many women do not know as well. Thank you for commenting and sharing your opinion!
Many people are unaware of the hair industry from collection to retail. White women world wide consume a LOT of hair extensions, toppers, ponytails but at a considerably higher price point than black women. There are many black American women who have worked to try and sell authentically sourced hair but at a higher price point that most black women just don’t want to pay. To put the dark side of the hair industry on all black women is egregious and damaging. I don’t understand why black American women cant educate each other without shaming one another or all of us as a collective. My white friends & white hair clients would never do this to each other 😞
But white women wear fake hair...... like they prefer it I have white frienda they do not want another humans hair on their head at all they want like fake hair .... it’s weird.... ...
The truth however IS uncomfortable. Most BW who wear wigs etc do so much more often and routinely than other races, as well as wearing hair texture unlike their own. It's a squirmy truth no one wants to talk about. It's not perse to shame anyone but there's not really an upside to the industry at all. A consenting and well compensated individual would be the only acceptable way to do it, but since most people don't want to part with their hair, the poor are victims. It's like factory farming. No one wants animals to suffer but no one wants to pay for the cost of humane treatment and slaughter. All wig/extension wearing should be based on consenting and fair compensation as I said, but the intense demand and regular use by BW as the largest demographic really make that impossible. It's a sad reality that needs to be looked at and addressed.
What do you even mean? She already admired when her hair was dyed it was ruined and she had to wear extensions and pony tails until she got her hair healthier again. Even then she still wears hair added to her ponytail
True. Then we have the gall to refer to ourselves as Queens. How can we be Queens while wearing another woman's crown? What exactly are we the queens of with that type of hypocrisy?
This is a fascinating topic! I researched this bc I'm a New Yorker & was approached twice on the street by men who offered me money for my hair. It's naturally blond, straight & hip length. I have no doubt that some women's hair gets stolen. This was in Brooklyn, & 1 of the men was so aggressive he followed me for several blocks, demanding I tell him a price. There's a big market for wigs in this area for cultural/ religious reasons & apparently they sell for many thousands of dollars depending on length & type of hair. I donated about 15" a few years ago but never thought about selling it. My advice if you have very long hair & are out in one of these areas, wear it up or covered. Stay safe all 💕🙏
I mean not gonna lie my black friend swindled me out of the hair on my head, i shaved my head and she was like heyyyy ginger what if we make it a wig. We sent it out, got it made into a wig cleaned and all that and she wears that wig more then me sooo. :D idk she slays as a ginger so im not to mad.
I get so angry when I see Jessie (the woman at 38:40) because of how she has profited and built a career on mimicking the stereotypes of black women to her advantage, in a country that has built an entire music industry doing the same.
The big money making industries certainly invested in wigs and still do!!! $$$$$$$$!!!! Many actresses and fashion models wore AND still wear wigs and extensions! Just check out some of the clips, from the movie classics and television shows!!! They were not black, so I rest my case!
What caused hair loss is unsanitary hair practices at hair salons or sharing combs and all that stuff especially at the African hair salons. They cause hair loss by Sharing combs and braiding multiple heads without washing hands sterilizing equipment
This is why i limt tf outta how much human hair i buy at this point im just gonna find more ethical hair brands , the fact these capitalist make millions on these terrible quality hair wigs while not paying thier workers enough money nor the donors it disgust me , ive seen the insider vid on the human hair industry but this really ticked me over the edge . Im an atheist but the idea of religious people cutting ther hair for sacrifice and these disgusting capitalist basically steal it pay the temple (not even the women themseves) pennies of what the hair will be sold as then pay their basically sweatshop labor hair workers absolutely nothing while racking in copious amounts of money . Im done with this bs .
MAYBE IN THAT COUNTRY YOU HAVE TO BUY SOMEONE ELSE'S HAIR BUT HERE WE CAN BY LOCKS THAT IS MADE WITH SYNTHETIC HAIR AND AS YOUR HAIR GROWS THE SYNTHETIC HAIR CAN SLOWLY BE CUT AWAY.
No I hv a hard time believing that. Even more so now. Since so many men having an interest in wearing wigs. Thinning hair is an international issue. So many hide it w human hair.
While i appreciate the time and effort put into this informative video essay, no other race of women wears the hair of another race as much as African/black women. Its a embarrassingly disgusting global mental flaw of today's African/black woman.
Imagine if we started wearing human nails as nail extensions? I think about it sometimes, getting a human hair wig or extensions, i think as a child of God I'm not scared of anything to do with spirits or other gods. But I'm still not ok with it for myself, I'll gross myself out because I'm a critical thinker and extreme analyser , when i start thinking about things like getting "human nail" extensions. Thinking about how there are people gathering hair from salon floors snd salon bins, robbing graves and so on... Ethics and disgust will get the best of me and then I'll toss money away in some kind of awakening... Before i get to that point of eventually what is a waste of my money... I'm sticking to synthetics and yarn ( i swear.. It's like I'm allergic to those anyway hence why i was thinking of human hair)... And just my hair.
If the rich and famous are making up for the one percent of this good hair then they are getting good quality then they are not purchasing a lot of times in a year. So yes black women we are the largest consumers of this hair because as you said we get poor quality hence it will keep us coming back. Otherwise afro types of wigs would be flying of cosmetic shops not latina and Asian hair that is synonymous to what black women are known to purchase. So let us be accountable and accept the fact even though other races are doing so it's not as much as black women that is indeed our desire of other women's types of hair is contributing largely to this industry to grow. Hence they are flooded in black saloons🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️
Hello! I really love your videos but would you mind not showing so long segments of order videos? specially when you don't comment? I feel like people should still go back to watch the original video and not see everything here... Besides that I really learn a lot from you videos, thanks
I’m only a few minutes into the video and maybe I should watch it fully before commenting but this topic as a whole doesn’t sit right with me. I feel like BW are responsible for all things then touch and enjoy. 1.) as a BW with thick coarse hair, I do not have to wear straight extensions but I do bc I don’t want to perm my hair and it simply takes less time to style. I’m an active, corporate woman. Planning my weekends around styling is not fun. It has nothing to do with self hate. 2.) this topic reminds me of the fast fashion conversation… the end consumer gets the blame but not the corporation. Again, I may be commenting too early but I’m over the policing of the how black women should wear their hair, where they buy it from, etc. bc are we having these conversations with other races? Are we having these conversations to women in general about the makeup full of chemicals and skin care full of cancer causing agents? If we don’t want to talk about the beauty industry and societal standards at large, let’s stop having this very much conversation that often singles out BW.
So basically we should stop talking about unethical hair practices because we're "policing how black women should wear their hair", no one is talking about fast fashion or the beauty industry and societal standards oh! and you want to defend your reasons for wearing straight wigs too
Black women just stop wearing the damn hair. I'm a black woman you are who you are but when you see my beautiful women day in Day Out with hair that doesn't belong to them it's sometimes can be overwhelming we were always told that we weren't beautiful enough we need to get rid of that mindset and love us starting with our hair I'm a black woman with blue eyes my hair is nappy as hell and I love it my eyes is not what attracts men believe it or not it's my hair especially when I wear it out in the afro. And don't get me wrong sometimes I straighten my hair I don't like it but I do our hair is precious jewels and we need to embrace it more. I try wearing that in my hair about 4 years ago to a party I tell you no lie when I walked into this party every black woman I'm going to say out of 50 women 45 of them had weave in their hair including me I was so uncomfortable

Why?
I do love my hair what has wearing hair extensions got to do with self hate. People like you is what makes being a black woman hard no matter what we choose to do with our hair. If a woman wants to flat iron, perm, weave, braid, extension, even wear it natural it’s our choice.
@@sheilakatz8377 yes it absolutely is your choice. Did I advocate to make it illegal? Your comment about "choice" is irrelevant to my point.

If we can redirect these messages that are being pushed heavily online towards young women, it would also make a major change as well.
Thanks for commenting!😊
@@DynamicTouch if this isn't the truth. Like it's not even about wearing wigs, everyone wears wigs. But a lot of black women have an obsession & it needs to be addressed properly. We also should save all that money we spend on Asians & invest it into black businesses.
This was such an amazing video! Thank you 🙏. I work in a affluent salon women of other races stay with a head full of human hair extensions.
Thank you also for commenting and sharing your experience.
Girl I’m sorry but me a black girl who wears virgin bundles yk damn well it’s us funding these industries. we got black women oaying 500 dollars for a wig install imagine what they paying for the bundles. let’s be REAL Caucasian women get they hair from other European. I understand tryna protect us black women from the stereotypes but babes it’s us.
Look into Jewish women that arent allowed to show their hair. Their wigs cost thousands, and they pay.

But yeah, hair stealing was a whole pandemic here😔
They steal lace fronts now in johannesburg 😩
Watched the whole thing. Very informative and educational.
I use to wear weave but not anymore not since 2012 and I love my natural hair.....

🔥 excellent commentary. Now I am rethinking buying human hair especially if I don’t know if it’s stolen!
This is soo important
we need to keep this conversation. uncomfortable but very necessary
This is kind of interesting, new things learn and kind of disgusting some what.
Some people “sacrifice” their hair for their gods/deities…watch out for that too…hair, nails, and blood are 3 things (I believe) that are spiritual…curses/hexes/rituals tend to have some or all of these “ingredients”
Sustainability aside I find it quite repulsive 🤢
Thank you so much for that beginning verse, I needed it🥰🙏🏾
You're welcome!
Damn they stealing people's locs too. I'd be so 😭 upset if someone came and cut my locs off.
RIGHT. This my third set. It might have to be a fight to the death.😭
Weave never worked out for me it always made my hair break off no matter how good it was done or kept up. Researched it further it's so deep and would never put anyone's sacrificed hair in my head. It's definitely not that damn serious.
All women wear extensions not just black women.
Other races don’t wear fake hair nearly as much and when they do, it’s their natural texture and color
their hair matches their texture ours don't
@@PrincessYonna1 lol most black women do not have 3a-3c. Most black women have type 4 hair. Why you mad?

When you actually think about it, it is weird to have the exact same hair on your head that someone else used to have on their head.
👏👏👏
I agree.
Also the hair comes from secs trafficking victims and corpses as well
🎯 and people's energy is attached to their hair...it grew out of their body, remember that

Wow great presentation…. I trimmed 8 inches off my dreadlocks recently. Who knew folks would pay for them?
I think black women use more weave and wigs no matter where you go on RUclips it's weaves sew ins and wigs I look for natural hair but that's all I find even my older sister wears wigs EVERYDAY
This video is so informational and just very well done. Thank you for this great documentary. The editing is really good.
I agree.
I agree!
This might be a controversial comment. But, I'm so grossed out by this. I can't imagine myself ever wearing someone else's hair again...
Creating this video and learning about the business of hair truly opened my eyes to what was going on. I had no clue beforehand, and I believe many women do not know as well.
Thank you for commenting and sharing your opinion!
Have you watched C dramas the amount of hair they go through each year is probably astonishing
I never wore andnver going too wear extensions. I might if i go bolding, wear a wig . I just hope that bolding doesn"t happen soon .
Damn, I thought I was safe because I have locs.
Love your vids. Keep up the good work
I appreciate the effort you put in the video. That a-hole from better length saying that people wouldn’t want money. Ok sure, sir 🙄.
Stealing hair is so Unbelievable and Crazy
Exhibit A. Ariana Grande. How does she, a natural brunette, have her hair constantly dyed bright red and have hair so long? I don't think so
What do you even mean? She already admired when her hair was dyed it was ruined and she had to wear extensions and pony tails until she got her hair healthier again. Even then she still wears hair added to her ponytail
People from the states need to watch this. They seam so messed up lol
It's black women. We're the queen of wearing other people hair. Many think their hair is not good enough.
True. Then we have the gall to refer to ourselves as Queens. How can we be Queens while wearing another woman's crown? What exactly are we the queens of with that type of hypocrisy?
Nice video love it my dear
Stay safe all 💕🙏
That's happening in Brooklyn??! WOW! Not something I would expect there
1 Corinthians 11:15 KJV
[15] But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.
True. It’s unethical all the way around.
The hair stealing may get worse. So many people are losing their hair right now from stress and illnesses and being nutritionally malnourished.
I wear most braids and locs but I love to try wigs from time to time. wigs are 10% of the time
I get so angry when I see Jessie (the woman at 38:40) because of how she has profited and built a career on mimicking the stereotypes of black women to her advantage, in a country that has built an entire music industry doing the same.
The weave obese is sick and sad tbh
The big money making industries certainly invested in wigs and still do!!! $$$$$$$$!!!! Many actresses and fashion models wore AND still wear wigs and extensions! Just check out some of the clips, from the movie classics and television shows!!! They were not black, so I rest my case!
Almost early squad
I didn't know that people steal hair wow. Is it still happen until now ?
Yes
Not locs 😳
Hello my friend, this is so amazing video , thanks for sharing, new friend here and stay connected 👍 wonderful 👍
Do You Guys Really Believe This Human Hair Is HUMAN????
Temple sacrifice, not donation. Kind the spiritual ramifications of wearing someone's hair.
I can’t believe they’re melting extensions onto people’s hair. Looks like hair loss waiting to happen. I’m good. 😮

Aren’t bw blamed for everything else
So basically we should stop talking about unethical hair practices because we're "policing how black women should wear their hair", no one is talking about fast fashion or the beauty industry and societal standards oh! and you want to defend your reasons for wearing straight wigs too
I’m still buying extensions it’s my life.
Ok?
Please get non sex slave hair at least. Rebundle is a good company.
right like i don’t care i love my extensions
This is so sad tbh
