Brace yourself. This is the answer to P&P. Tuomas has come so far in his musical explorations, he has left the emotions that inspired the P&P work behind. THIS is the work that comes out of joy, wonder, science, education, observation, ( remember, until he was shanghaied by Metallica he was going to be a biologist) . Other pieces lead up to this; Shudder, Alpenglow, Wilds, Walden, EFMB...he was building up to this for years. And after THIS piece, he comes out with Human:II: Nature, and you realize that THIS piece was just an introduction to Human:II:Nature.
    Oh, coils within coils!

The phrase at the end - "We were here" - it makes sense now?
I think it is so so sad that Nightwish is classified as Metal because it scares potential listeners away from them. I have asked a couple of friends at work if they know about NW and they all say "No, Metal is not my thing. Rock is my kind of music".
But I have hatched a sinister plan. I am working nights over the coming weekend, so in some mysterious way (wont say how 😁) I will bang in a full Concert in a USB memory, I'll chuck it in in the tv in the Canteen at work, set it up on endless repeat and then hide the tv remote somewhere, the icebox in the fridge maybe...

After releasing their Album "Endless Forms Most Beautiful" Nightwish got an unexpected honour. They published on their Facebook the following news.
My Sincere congratulations to Nightwish Band and to the Master himself, Tuomas Holopainen 🤘👏🇫🇮
”One new crab species (Tanidromites nightwishorum) was named after us in honor in particular for our 2015 album, ’Endless Forms Most Beautiful’, about the evolution of life.
The new species of crab was found in eastern Austria and lived during the late part of the Jurassic period, around 150 million years ago. While dinosaurs dominated the land, parts of Europe were covered by a warm, shallow sea full of life. Tanidromites nightwishorum was discovered in a fossil coral reef. Crab diversity and abundance exploded for the very first time in their evolutionary history during the Late Jurassic in central Europe.
Thanks to Dr. Adiel A. Klompmaker and his colleagues for this truly fantastic honour (Adiel is curator of palaeontology, Alabama Museum of Natural History).

Well, it seems he composes the themes and general melodies for the orchestral parts, records them in instrumental demos, and then consults Pip Williams about how to arrange them for an orchestra and a choir. Pip does enough work regarding this that he could be called a "7th bandmember," for example in this one he created the horror-like soundscape in the start of the 3rd part behind Floor's haunting vocals (the red scene) and there was a lot for him to do in the 4th part too. Pip also wrote the orchestral middle part in Ghost Love Score, mostly of course he's doing just arrangements and adjustments regarding the orchestral production in close cooperation with Tuomas.

    #1
    "The Greatest Show On Earth"
    (Spoken parts are in quotations)
[Part 1: Four Point Six] (4.6 billion years ago)
    Archaean horizon
(part of the Precambrian period, in which there was no life on the earth. Earth's history is divided into four principal Eons: the Hadean, the Archean, Proterozoic, and the Phanerozoic. The Hadean is the Eon during which the Earth and Moon formed; in the Archaean, primordial life appeared. )
    The first sunrise
    On a pristine gaea
(Greek personification of the Earth as a goddess)
    Opus perfectum
(the perfect work, the perfect creation, a masterpiece)
    Somewhere there, us sleeping
(the DNA and carbon for life was in the space dust)
"After sleeping through a hundred million centuries we have finally opened our eyes on a sumptuous planet, sparkling with colour, bountiful with life.
Within decades we must close our eyes again.
Isn't it a noble and enlightened way of spending our brief time in the sun, to work at understanding the universe and how we have come to wake up in it?"
(Dawkins refers to the birth of the earth as a planet and mankind's brief geologic time on earth to understand how we came to be here at all)
    [Part 2: Life]
    The cosmic law of gravity
Pulled the newborns around a fire
(Planetary gravity aligning the solar system around the sun)
A careless cold infinity in every vast direction (space)
Lonely farer in the Goldilocks zone
(The earth moving on its own in the exact place for life to thrive - mother bear’s porridge was just right for Goldilocks)
She has a tale to tell
From the stellar nursery into a carbon feast
(the condensing big bang dust clouds into planets and the earth and all life is carbon based)
    Enter LUCA
(Last universal common ancestor - a simple life form that all life carries a genetic marker for, LUCA was not the first living organism but the sole survivor of previous types)
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Last_universal_common_ancestor
    The tapestry of chemistry
(The periodic table of the elements and combinations)
There's a writing in the garden
    (DNA and the garden, earth)
Leading us to the mother of all
    (the trail to our beginnings)
    We are one
(having a common DNA marker and we are all made from the galactic space dust and condensing gas. All the material from the big bang is still here, state might have changed for some things, but it is here.)
    We are a universe
(This is the natural conclusion to draw from the fact that life shares common origin, that all life is built with the same blocks, and that all life on Earth is interdependent (gaia hypothesis). The multiplicity of beings on Earth are one, just as the cells in a body are one. Lately it has been shown that we are indeed made of star dust material from the birth of our universe)
    Forebears of what will be
    Scions of the Devonian sea
(419.2 to 358.9 million years ago from rocks found in Devon England, scion is a young shoot of a plant, the land grew plants and the multitude of fishes started to come ashore and walk on fins briefly)
    Aeons pass
Writing the tale of us all
(The DNA and evolution branching out into other forms)
    A day-to-day new opening
    (The continuity of evolution)
For the greatest show on Earth
(a poetic reference to life developing and evolving)

I've watched more than 100 reactions to this song and go through those emotions each and every time, including tears. Tuomas is a once in a lifetime pure musical genius. I often wonder how someone who is blessed, or cursed, with his amazing creativity for music can turn it all off to have a good night's sleep. The classical master composer, Gustav Mahler, once said his creative juices were never at rest and very often it was a burden to bare. Wonder if Tuomas has to deal with that. I consider both men to be legendary titans in the musical composition world. Thanks for doing this performance justice in your reaction. Ron

When you read the lyrics you will understand the different vocal aspects. Floor was singing from a universal perspective. She was telling us how our planet and life evolved during the early stages. Then when she started to properly sing she was seeing the Earth as a garden that we humans needed to tend to and care for. The grunting section starts the section called "Toolmakers". This was when humans evolved and began to use tools and to hunt. The ending is a statement on the future. See final chorus below.
Man, he took his time in the sun
    Had a dream to understand
    A single grain of sand
    He gave birth to poetry
But one day'll cease to be
Greet the last light of the library

I always smile when Floor says enter life so sexy....Yes I love Nightwish more from year to year, maybe because of finally the best fitting bandmembers, maybe because my view on life and the universe we all live in is better now being 57 years old . Best music for heart and soul by my alltime favourite band ...Great reaction Thomas...thx for your time, work and enthusiasm

Hello there, thanks very much for the comment. That is very understandable and so cool that the band has had such a good influence on you. I've been aware of Nightwish for a long time but I'm glad to be getting into them properly now that I'm a bit older and understand the depth of their music. I see myself listening to their music and appreciating new things for the rest of my life. Thanks for watching and take care. :)

No, you're right Thomas, Tuomas writes it all, lyrics in his second language too, he is a genius.
