Congrats on the new crew member! We all had to start somewhere and if you don’t get time in the seat you won’t learn. By you saying she’s a natural on the rd that’s what you want. Someone who won’t panic, and is accountable reliable teachable and loyal If you find that your all set. Seems like she may be a great addition to your company! Have a friends who are women who drive. One did OTR for many years and went regional with us and eventually into another place. The other woman hauled mail for years and years. Both are life long drivers and friends. Both are moms and wives. Excellent drivers
Great job training the new driver, she will make a fine driver for the company as well gain new experiences driving the dump trailer. Its all ways good to expand on your experiences. As well it feels good that you train someone and they are off on their own doing it the way they should drive and dump when you teach them the ropes.

It’s great the Cardillos give a newer driver a opportunity like this! I know of a lot of companies that want a ton of experience and it makes it harder for young people to get into it. I wish you could share more of the training process but I understand why you didn’t film it.
When opening up the safety pins always start with the one further away from you so you're not walking behind the gate were pressure could pop it open right to left
The last time I drove a truck with a frameless dump trailer was back in 1989, one important thing I learned from the old timers was to make sure the ground is flat as much as possible and no flat tires especially with those frameless dump trailers that rides only on the rear trailer axle while the dump is up, I remember the company had East and Clement trailers

Carla and Rose were 2 female drivers for Newport Materials when I worked there 2010- 2016 and they were better than many of the guys that I delt with. Even when I worked for Middlesex Corp in Florida a lot of the female drivers were better because they tried harder to be good.
HAHHA new employee and doing all the work. I was that guy years ago when I learned how to run a tow truck. I had 3 trucks to myself. Was funny. Had like some idea what I was doing I figured it out. Best way to learn
Some of these new drivers don't get enough credit. I know a 20 year old who went to CDL school....got her class B and started with a local construction company....within 2 years had her class A with haz mat, and doubles and triples. Recently on her day off I had her ride along with me hauling asphalt.... I don't let anyone drive my Star....but made an exception with her. Super smart, extremely careful.... And the CDL school was so impressed she's going to start teaching part time next year. Nice to see young people who have determination and direction in their life. Congratulations on the new driver.....she landed in a good place.
That’s a Nice truck. She’s lucky to drive such a nice rig👍👍 There’s more and more women behind the wheel I’ve seen over the years and I can say they’re very good. Those Volvo loaders are nice. I used to drive a Komatsu with a side loader bucket for use in tight spaces.
Thats good Mike that she is a good driver just got to make sure you train her properly on the dump trailer you know the ins and out of dumping properly I've seen to many mistakes on new people behind the dump trailer not dumping the air on the tractor and and trailer and throttling up to hard slow and steady when lifting the box watching the cylinder always look at the load before you leave the plant you know the routine Mike you'll train her right hope she works out and stays

That’s a great engine that DD-16 is very reliable 600 HP 2050 pound ft of torque the biggest they make I believe they don’t sound like the old driptroits though
Only two things wrong with that truck, one is its automatic and the other is a Detroit Diesel other than that, it is a beautiful truck. Miss the Heritage Western Star's with the DK cabs.

I think you are liking the new Western Star you'll want one now, driving it thinking hmm this is nice I don't have to shift just hold the steering wheel and stare out the window 😂 In all honesty I won't work with female employees I did it for 12 years a crew of guys could work together with no issues maybe some minor disagreements once in a while. You have a lady(s) join the crew it becomes disruptive. I vowed never again I currently work with an all guy crew we have our beefs but they don't last long we all work together really well. Hope the new trainee works out for you guys its hard to find drivers.
I train new hires time to time on the yard goats here. Patience and being nice goes a long way. Give them a chance and be patient and most thrive if given the chance..
Sometimes all you have to do is give somebody a chance, and they turn into a good hand👍👍👍

Honestly, I don't think the power is impressive at all especially on the take off or on hills, you I have to bury the throttle to get it to kick in.

I prefer an 18 speed also.13s are ok but I always forget to put the splitter back to go to the low side.
I like a 13 as well but once you go 18 you'd never go back voluntarily.
