I know that this video is almost 3 years old but I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed the entire series. Intelligent, thoughtful, a bit philosophic and mostly friends having fun. You experiences match my own. Thanks so much!
You probably won’t see this but I had a similar experience where my friends and fraternity brothers drove out to Phoenix to rescue me. We drove up to the Grand Canyon for 3 days of enjoying that wonderful place. I hiked to the river and back on the Bright Angel trail by myself. The next day my buds wanted to go down so I went down again but not all the way to the river. We met a crazy Brit and ended up taking him back to New England with us. We stopped at Niagara Falls on the way back and it was hard to really appreciate it after the GC. This was in the mid 70s. I’m just an old fart reminiscing and thoroughly enjoying your vlogs.
Trips like that are why I hate going out when it rains. People always say "Oh their great" and I'm like, " I'm locked down, you can't do much, and everything is soaked, even if you do everything right, it's just a matter of time before the water gets in." I do rainy trips on occasion, but man. And geeze, you guys ran the gambit of wet to dry.
Yeah, a bit of rain I can deal with, but that was an unbelievable amount. When it soaks through the rainfly, you know you're experiencing something unique. Although at one point, I felt like I could've just kept going because I was already so soaking wet, haha. Death Valley was definitely the polar opposite of that, though. -Andrew
As a travel nurse from Florida, California is my favorite place to work because of the diversity of ecosystems. I have been home from California for two months and I really miss it. Thanks for sharing this, it makes me miss it even more! With the Chinese, I learned a lot about their history in America when I was spending a lot of my days off in San Francisco. I did not realize how much racism and abuse they received back then. It's also interesting how history repeats itself, this time with other races.
It is really cool how many different landscapes there are in California, and within a relatively short distance of each other! And definitely. We think it's important to highlight that history so that we can learn from it and try to be a more positive influence in the world. Thanks so much for watching and commenting! -Andrew
I felt nostalgia for your Mt. Whitney episode watching this episode, and I have never even been there. Ahh the power of Adventure Archives. Thanks for bring us along!!
That's one of the greatest compliments you could've given us! I was hoping people watching would have seen the Whitney episode and felt some sort of familiarity. Thanks so much for watching, and thank you for your support! -Andrew
I love your videos, the music, the storytelling, your philosophy, everything, you should have your own shows on TV, top quality. Best regards from a cold Sweden.
The beginning of this road trip speaks to me, I grew up in California and I've spent many boy scout adventures in Southern California and the Mojave Desert. Memories are memories, be they good or bad. Red Rock State park is where we'd stay on the off years between Death Valley.
Your videos are so professionally done. The editing and music is phenomenal. The commentary is lovely also. You're just talking and discussing, or being silent and appreciating the beauty of the world around you. Just became a Patron. Keep up the awesome work guys! ETA: That's the Flamingo! I've stayed there!
I was always so amazed that you guys were able to find music that fit your videos so perfectly, so when I found out they were original compositions everything made sense to me! It’s really impressive you guys can make music that compliments the videos so well
Thanks for the kind words! We started off realizing we wouldn't be able to use any sort of licensed music, and decided to write our own. We're pretty glad we stuck with that. Cheers! -Andrew
My wife and I just returned from our 25 year anniversary trip. We flew into Seattle and drove Hwy 101/PCH all the way to San Diego. Unfortunately, timing and the road closure near Big Sur prevented us from getting through that area to see its beauty. The last day (Santa Barbara to San Diego) was spoiled by L.A. Traffic...Thomas, I can understand why you left!! Great episode. I will sit down and watch it again with my wife over the weekend.
Darn, that's too bad. I think we went around Highway 1 somehow, but I don't remember exactly which way we took. And yeah, that LA traffic is ridiculous! Haha. Thanks for watching :)
We just had to bail on a Dolly Sods trip. Same situation. Just rained for hours and hours. The entire hike and all night. No fire, nothing was dry. We stayed the first night and left the next morning.
Did not want this episode to end! Can’t wait to be able to watch the whole road trip back to back. A lot can be said about this episode, but I was mostly struck by the music and how different it was, but still so uniquely AA. Loved it. Can’t wait for the next one!
Thanks so much! So glad you're looking forward to the rest of the trip. Yeah, it was fun to try some different styles of music in this one! Thomas even wrote his first song for this episode, haha
@@AdventureArchives Was that the music through the desert? Quite different and quite nice. I really liked it. Kudos to Thomas for getting on the music bandwagon. No drop-off in quality whatever his music was.
Awesome episode guys! I feel like you guys are really stepping into your prime with the channel. I love the humor and friendship that shows through. I believe that is even more important than the beautiful cinematography that you employ. Two thumbs up! ..... the very final clip cracked me up.
I grew up in SoCal and I don't miss the desert, but there's nothing quite like the Sierras and the Pacific ocean. Too bad it rained so much on the Big Sur hike. Looks like you all had a great time. Thanks for bringing us along. Can't wait for Part 2!
For sure, the desert has its own appeal, but it can become unbearable after a while. Hopefully we can go back to Big Sur some day and film a full episode there! -Andrew
That subtle timely message is not lost on me (and I'm glad you are saying it). From the scale of our immune systems to the scale of the universe, systems benefit from outside influence.
The connection made with Californian nature was good. The editing, narration and story improves with each video. So good! The rain is rare these days out here in California.. So it was nice to see you guys show it. The shots looked a bit refreshing like the Pacific North West. Just beautiful.
Thank you so much for the kind words! Yeah, in a way we were pretty lucky seeing the rain, and it honestly made the place really beautiful. Cheers! -Andrew
this made me laugh so much, that miserable tent situation is just way too relatable (”my nuts are wet!” 😂) I’m so glad you decided to go back to the car, sometimes it’s just not even remotely worth it to try and tough it out.
I agree. I've gone camping once before where it wouldn't stop raining. We also canceled the trip. It was too tough and dangerous, everything, and everywhere was wet.
I thought after all the Star Wars references you would definitely mention how Death Valley was a filming location for many scenes in Tatooine in the original movies.
Haha thank you so much! Thomas actually had his debut song in this one too. We tried experimenting with different styles to sort of fit the road trip theme. Thanks again, and thank you for watching! -Andrew
AdventureArchives no problem you guys are literally the best on RUclips for camping videos , the cinematography and music along with your personalitys, no one comes CLOSE. Keep it up long time fan and I'm gonna continue to support you guys
Dudes this is without a doubt some of your best work yet. The music and editing was entirely on point! You really conveyed how much fun you were having and i’m stoked to see the rest.
Dude Big Sur never gets old I love that place. Death Valley is epic to. Looks like you guys are having fun excited to watch your adventures across the states
The best way to Start your evening after Work with a new Episode of the Adventure Archives. Thanks Guys im looking already forward to the Next Episode. Regards from Germany
Your music selections are my favorite! Great editing. I live in Cali and have been to these places. So fun to watch your experiences from the comfort of my winter blanket cocoon. Spring is coming and I’m preparing for some backpacking adventures- binge watching your channel feels like preparation. Thanks!
Haha, glad you liked that scene! And it's great to know you're looking forward to part two. We were worried people would be put off by the different content. Thanks for your support! :)
@@AdventureArchives I don't see that the content was all that different than your usual, just a little more driving is all. No big deal. Same camaraderie. Same fun. Same goofiness. I'm glad all four of you were able to make this trip together.

God the Big Sur chapter was hilarious! One word: Forecasts. Loved it, as always. Favorite Quote: "I've been known to be hyperbolical but ... this is a truly magical place!"
It was 124 F at Badwater Basin when I visited Death Valley a couple of years ago! You captured Artist's Drive beautifully! If you didn't do it this time, be sure to visit Zabriskie Point, hike Golden Canyon and drive the 20 Mule Team Canyon next time. Those 3 along with Artist's Drive were our favorites. We have to return to get to Dante's View as we ran out of daylight before we made it there. Lots of fun and a truly amazing place. I look forward to the rest of your amazing trip.
Thanks for the suggestions! Hopefully we'll get to go back and check those out some time. You must have visited in the summer - I can't imagine that sort of heat! It was only around April when we visited. Cheers! -Andrew
these videos are absolutely amazing! I love watching these when i'm about to go on a trip, and am so happy this was uploaded today, as i'm going on a trip through Washington state, Montana and Idaho for 8 days. Keep up the amazing work, guys.
Absolutely great first episode, lads! The bits in Lone Pine made me seriously nostalgic for when I was there a few years ago, and we ate at the Merry-go-Round as well! Great food/service :-)
That was lovely to watch on a grey, lazy saturday afternoon. Gorgeous footage and great narration and an truly amazing friend group. I'm a bit in awe by your ability to get totally soaked every single time you camp in the rain though, lol.
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoy them :) We should upload a video with a bunch of our star timelapses so people can fall asleep to it, haha. Thanks for watching! The trailer for the next video is out now! -Andrew

Y'all are soooooo adorable... I'm so glad I found this channel. I should be sleeping, but decided to watch this whole thing in one sitting because I was so excited to find content this well-produced and free!.. Thank you for making this accessible for others to watch. You all are great story-tellers and I love the information you share about plants and the history of other cultures. Sending you all so much love. Peace
Particularly love the new kind of music while driving through the desert. Was that Thomas'? Also, loved Thomas' imitation of C3PO. That was funny. Great to see you all together again. Funny tent scenes. Beautiful hike at Big Sur. Gorgeous area. Love the wildflowers. Looking forward to what follows, how many ever parts there will be.
LMAO: "I never did that fire going, though." I enjoyed that episode even more than the other ones. I am so happy to have the opportunity to support you guys! Keep on going!
Haha, so glad you enjoyed the episode! We're really glad people are enjoying this even though it's a bit of a different format. Thanks so much for your support! -Andrew
Definitely! We had actually intended it to be a full episode on it's own, but getting rained out made us decide to include it in this. We had a pool of water inside the tent! Thanks for watching and thanks for your support, Bob! -Andrew
funniest part of the episode i think, they even joked about Robby's laugh in the podcast when he was eating those snacks with Thomas in the tent while raining, even funnier with Bryan and Andrew's reaction in the other tent, would of liked to see a little more of Big Sur though
What a great episode! I always love to watch every single episode because I always feel like the 5th person in your show. This is a great escape for me who hasn't been able to go out at least for a while. I wish the video could be longer!!!
I had a similar experience to what Andrew expressed around 9:43 on Mt Marcy in the Adirondacks. We got up past the tree line, approaching the summit but had no idea how high up we actually were because of the thick fog and heavy rain. We ended up turning back before the summit because it was too dangerous and windy to climb around in low visibility.
We decided the extra weight of a large lightweight tarp was worth it for us. We put it up over the tent area and then it's easier to put away a dry tent lol. It also means we can sit outside under it too.
Amazing episode guys!!! This one felt incredibly epic. Those wide shots during the hike, the purple night sky, the desert road and Death Valley shots are breathtaking. The Day 4 graphic was great too. I also just realized that the different instrumental arrangements of the AA theme totally remind me of Final Fantasy remixes over the years.
haha, this was a great one guys! Looking forward to part 2. I will have to catch pt2 after our trip to Isle royale though. I saw the preview for it today and super pumped to give it a watch.

Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it, and the next video is out soon :) Thanks for watching!
This video is absolutely beautiful love the sceans and the Pacific ocean in the background who made the video did a great job filming it
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for watching :)
If you guys had some good weather at Big Sur it would have made an awesome episode on it's own. Still a great video!👍 I'm looking forward to part 2
I wish the video could be longer!!!
wow! this was funny and I think one of your very best. Can't wait to see the rest of the trip!!

I love your videos but as an ultralight backpacker I'm terrified by those heavy packs
everyone talking about the wet tent situation while I can't stop watching Bryan prep the car for travel 31:48
Re watching this to make me reminisce socal a little more. Nice video guys
Feel like we are there with you, it is so personal and fun.
I recommend you visit the Valley of Fire state park, its an hour north of las vegas.
I love these guys, I hope to go hiking/camping with them..
This.is.quality.content. cant wait for pt 2
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it :D -Andrew
Born and raised in the mojave desert and its so weird to hear what other people think lol, very cool video!
really love your music choices and remixes of your theme! I weirdly feel a chrono trigger and old school SNES feel when I hear them esp at 55:21
Thanks so much! We are definitely inspired musically by a lot of old school SNES videogame music :) Cheers! -Andrew
I really enjoyed the knowledge of plants in all your videos, thanks!
love all your videos i watch them all the time but what goes into you guys planning out a trip for a video? could you go into detail possibly?
haha, this was a great one guys! Looking forward to part 2. I will have to catch pt2 after our trip to Isle royale though. I saw the preview for it today and super pumped to give it a watch.
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it, and I hope you enjoy part 2 when you watch it :) Have a good time at Isle Royale! -Andrew
