What really upsets me about the whole Sky situation is that because a rich and powerful person complained about sky sounding like her voice, the truth is.... that she has now crushed the income and potential career of an up-and-coming young voice actress whose career would be off to an incredible launch with the opportunity now squashed by Scarlett Johansson. The rich and powerful crushing and annihilating the little guy is what really bothers me about this - we all loved the voice of Skye and I feel bad for the actress who could have benefited so positively from her voice being on the platform.
Please make these coming weeks be a very brief "coming weeks"

There is still a female voice available. They are just using a male voice here. The multiple demos they released on the day of the Spring Update featured both their male and female voices.

Right now they only have Juniper if you want a female voice not that I'm complaining. Juniper is sexy and awesome but I wish they had more female voices right now kind of feels like the program is a sausage party. I wasn't a fan of the sky voice but I really like Juniper I hope they don't get complaints about that one because I like her perky and middle-aged voice. Kind of makes me think of a bartender or waitress at a club. It would be really cool if they could get the actress that did counselor Troy on Star Trek/Demona from gargoyles I'm trying to remember her name she's got a gorgeous New Zealand accent and when you factor in some of the verbal colloquialisms that she uses when she talks that kind of voice would be super awesome. Would also love to see them get a British or Scottish female voice again I love those accents with the rolling letters.

They just announced on X that it's coming months from now, in the fall. So messed up. They should have never said weeks if they knew the product was not even ready yet. So unprofessional of them.
@@i-wc9bp Meh... as frustrating as it is for us, I'm firmly of the opinion "delayed is better than broken". If they discovered efficiency, scalability, and/or safety issues after their initial announcements, it's better they delay to fix those than to rush out a product that's problematic.
Should they have caught the issues before announcement day? Yes. But mistakes happen, and I've personally been in situations where there's a last-minute discovery that we either have to grind to a halt to fix or risk releasing unreleasable code. So I get it. It's certainly not ideal for the devs, the company, *or* the users... but it's better than the alternative.

The voice ability is available in thier chatgpt app and not in the website yet, but it's use is (obviously) limited

Corporate world is complicated. You had to do something to still the shine of Google's Event, the day after you announced this, and now I suspect you are finding it difficult to deliver at scale. The amount of data all the users will start generating and requiring to be rpocessed must be a few orders of magnitude above what text with some files attached require. I hope you can deliver, guys. Honestly . Big fan and enthusiast of ChatGPT since 3.5 blew my mind, and then again on each new version. 🙏🏽

@@valuemastery it would be for the first month but someone would eventually get it up and running and it would benefit everyone to have the ability to have a competitor inference without all the restrictions or worries about sending proprietary code over the internet. you could set up a private instance inside your company with the right amount of hardware and then you could use gpt4 on your company's closed source code without legal troubles of sending secret data over the internet to another company

To be honest I'm a bit disappointed about OpenAI. If you don't have this new assistant ready, why are you lying that it will be released in the "coming weeks", it's been over a month since the first announcement and it's not "coming weeks". If it's not ready, then say so, instead of messing with people's minds. I bought a subscription just for this mode, but now I have to cancel it.
I actually agree with you. They should at least give an actual date so we know and are not waisting our time checking every day.

You guys are the reason they do this type of product demonstration (Not an advertisement). They know a bunch of people will just throw cash at them, allowing them to sit back and rake it in while they continue development. There's no ground for a lawsuit as the release date is intentionally vague.
@Hazzii well, now we all know. Lesson learned. I already had a subscription but given how long the wait used to be (it took over a month for them to give it to me after I applied), I could see being one of the people who subscribed early.

It's a matter of opinion. Plenty of people thought that live state demo sounded very flirty. Others found it over the top generally. People don't generally talk like that.
Anyway it doesn't matter regardless because that expressiveness in the voice wasn't something specific to that voice. All of the voices will be able to sound like that or sound different.
