‚Traum eines sesshaften Reisenden‘
Der Kurzfilm ‚Traum eines sesshaften Reisenden‘ visualisiert den Tagtraum eines weitgereisten Flaneurs.
In seinem Tagtraum kommt der Protagonist an weltbekannte, ikonische Destinationen. Durch das sich wiederholende Winken mit seinem Hut versucht er, von jedem Ort seiner Reise aus eine Verbindung zu einem imaginären Betrachter an einem imaginären Ort aufzunehmen.
Der Anfang und der Schluss des Films zeigen den tagträumenden, ‚sesshaften‘ Protagonisten am Ausgangspunkt und am Ziel seiner Reise.
Ausstattung und Anmutung des Ausgangspunktes und des Zielortes machen deutlich, dass der Protagonist keine Verbesserung seines Status sucht, sondern dass er ein romantischer Träumer ist, dessen Motto lauten könnte ‚Die wahren Abenteuer sind im Kopf, und wenn sie nicht im Kopf sind, sind sie nirgendwo‘.
Schon als zehnjähriger Junge habe ich versucht, an meinen Drachen eine Kamera zu befestigen, um meine Umgebung - und mich selbst - aus der Luft zu fotografieren. Mein Versuch ist damals gescheitert.
Für fast alle Filmsequenzen habe ich die örtlichen Aufnahmepositionen und Einstellungen zu Hause mit Hilfe von Google Earth und Google Maps herausfinden und festlegen können. Ich wusste also bereits an meinem Schreibtisch in Köln ganz genau, an welchem Platz, an welchem Fenster oder auf welcher Terrasse ich mit meiner Kamera bzw. mit meinem Copter stehen musste.
Als ich dann später in Indien, Rio de Janeiro, Kairo, Paris, Venedig etc. genau diese Einstellungen, manchmal nur durch einen einzigen Drohnenflug, auch filmisch dokumentieren konnte, standen mir beim ersten Betrachten der Bilder vor Glück oft die Tränen nicht nur in den Augen.
Auch deshalb habe ich als Filmtitel ‚Traum eines sesshaften Reisenden‘ gewählt.
'Dream of a Sedentary Traveler'
The short film 'Dream of a Sedentary Traveler' visualizes the daydream of a well-travelled flâneur.
In his daydream the protagonist arrives at world-famous, iconic destinations. By repeatedly waving his hat, he seeks to connect with an imaginary viewer in an imaginary place from every point of his journey.
The beginning and end of the film shows the daydreaming, 'sedentary' protagonist at the starting point and at the destination from his journey.
The decor and feel of the starting point and the destination make it clear that the protagonist is not looking to improve his status, but he is a romantic dreamer whose motto could be 'The real adventures are in the mind, and when they aren't in the mind, they are nowhere'.
Ever since I was a 10-year-old boy, I've tried attaching a camera to my kites to photograph my surroundings - and myself - from the air. My attempt then failed.
For almost all film sequences, I was able to find out and determine the local shooting positions and settings at home with the help of Google Earth and Google Maps. So I already knew at my desk in Cologne exactly where to stand with my copter, at which window or on which terrace.
When I was later able to document exactly these settings on film in India, Rio de Janeiro, Cairo, Paris, Venice, etc., sometimes with just a single drone flight, I often had tears in my eyes from happiness when I first saw the pictures.
This is also why I chose 'Dream of a Sedentary Traveller' as the title of the film.
