If I had to sum this movie up to somebody, I would say absolutely the exact thing as you did. To a single word. You hit every point I found important. A perfect review. And just like you said, after watching the movie I went online and learned more about the history of Chile. What did you think about the cast? I was stunned at how each actor had this thick aura and was perfectly cast. Especially the roles with the least screen time like the Colonel, daughter of Menendéz or the government employee.

Superb review - well done! I'm so impressed by how the reviewer (James, I believe?) captured the essence of the film's power. I was especially impressed by how deftly he analysed the simply gorgeous cinematography in such a precise and technical way, without being patronizing or 'showy' about his knowledge re blocking, aspect ratio, etc. As for me, I was frankly blown away by it. I adored it. I think it's a masterpiece. I was riveted throughout and it left me literally shaken at the end. For some reason, it resonated very deeply with me, perhaps because I myself am from a settler country (South Africa), or perhaps just because it was so beautifully made and executed so perfectly. And, yes, it did feel like a much longer film, but in a good way! Thank you for sharing this - and I hope many more people will get to see and appreciate this terrific film.

My son recommended me this film SO hard!!
I've always been amazed about Selknam's culture. I recommend you to dig about "Hain", their initiation ceremony. SO magic!
And it's a shame the way they were hunted like animals and exterminated.
I will watch this movie, for sure. It's just I need to prepare myself.

I'll agree that the movie is visually beautiful. And all the praise for how the movie was shot is well-earned. But. It's still a disappointment. 2/3 of the way through the movie stops, jumps back in time and all the resolutions happen off-camera, it's so anticlimactic that I can only think that they started the movie and during filming the money ran out or something and they had to finish it as cheaply as possible.

Very thoughtful and thorough review. Super film. Not sure it will find the audience it deserves. Terrific debut from the director. I understand your comments on the slow pacing at the start but still feels like it's slightly under paced and needed more emotional beats
